Comments about Sabian AAX OMNI Ride:

I NEVER leave product reviews... I always read them before I make any purchase, but this time I feel that a review is my duty to my fellow drummers out there looking for THE cymbal. I have been playing drums for nearly 25 years. I've toured all over the US. I've had endorsements through several great companies throughout my career. I have done and still do a lot of studio work in world renowned studios. I currently play as a session drummer in the Houston area and also play for one of the largest churches in the country. I'm not at all trying to brag, I'm simply qualifying myself as a drummer who knows drums and knows what sounds good and what doesn't...
Here's the deal... This cymbal (Omni 22") is literally THE best cymbal I have ever played hands down. I have actually taken this cymbal to quite a few smaller gigs and used only this cymbal and hi hats and didn't miss my other cymbals at all.. It is literally the perfect ride and the perfect crash. I've used it for pop/rock/country/gospel/... It always works and fits in perfectly. It is never overpowering and the sound guys and producers always say "where in the hell did you find that cymbal!!). I hit it and it makes me smile. The bell is cutting, but not too bright, the center has a dark, jazzy ride feel with amazing stick definition, the edge is trashy, yet beautiful. I could literally go on and on about this thing, Most crash/rides end up being horrible at both... This isn't your ordinary crash/ride. It's just an awesome freaking cymbal. Sabian and JoJo definitely struck gold with this one! I now own two of these and if they break, I will order another one immediately! Each cymbal differs a bit. One of my Omni's is a bit heavier, and is a bit brighter than the other. However, they are both brilliantly designed instruments! I'm not anyone to please go out and buy this cymbal, BUT I am saying this is has literally changed my playing for the better. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT 1000%!!!

    How Did They Make These?

    By Owen Liversidge

    from Atlanta, GA

Comments about Sabian AAX OMNI Ride:

I have now tried both of these bad boys out. First off was the 22", which is a great cymbal, but way too big and overpowering for me. That one is reserved for those wanting a powerhouse crash/ride, something that Bonham would have eaten alive. As for me, I was looking for something that would replace my current ride, not just be an addition. The 18" may sound small for a ride, but believe me, it's got some great punch! The ride part sounds nice and bright, although is deep and dry enough to work as it should, with a decent size bell. And when you hit the edge, the crash sounds bright yet washy, equivalent to maybe a smaller size thin crash (14"-15").As my title suggests, when you first look at the thing, you wonder how they constructed it, because somehow they melded together two very different types of metal - hand hammered bronze on the inside, and lathed on the outside. Yet, they join together seamlessly. This is simply one of the most versatile cymbals you will ever play, without having to compromise anything. Nice work, Sabian!

Comments about Sabian AAX OMNI Ride:

I have the 22" and it's amazing. I have it mounted off my bass drum, and for a 22" cymbal, it's not as heavy as I thought it would be. That's due to the outer half being much thinner than the inner half is, which also contributes to the different sounds the ride can give you.

When riding on the outer half, it's a washy, darker, jazzy kinda cymbal. When riding on the inner half, it's a dry, quick, bright and funky cymbal. The bell will BLOW your mind away. The crash is loud but buttery (for a crash this size) and is more similar to a 19" or 20" crash.

I use it as my main ride AND crash (meaning after a drumfill, this is usually the crash I land on to come back into the beat), I basically built my cymbal setup around the OMNI, because it really does give me 5 different cymbal sounds at once. It's pretty awesome, and it only sounds better with age and play. I swear it's become "sweeter" over the past 1.75 years I've owned it.

Comments about Sabian AAX OMNI Ride:

First off this cymbal is not your typical ride at all!!!
For a 22 inch cymbal, you would think it would be super duper loud. But it's not. WHICH is fantastic. This AAX has a center which is ride based and heavier. But the outside 6-7 inches are lathed. This lathed aspect brings the most beautiful and unique sound to fill the air.
I play in a punk and band and go all out on it, using it like a crash. But I also play drums for my church and use this cymbal as my ride. It's so versatile. With the Sabian and AAX name it really holds up to my standards. It will not disappoint you!

Comments about Sabian AAX OMNI Ride:

Dry, dark stick, not overly loud on the 18" version. Fast (both attack and decay), shimmery, washy crash. Some have described it as "trashy" (china-like), but it doesn't sound trashy to me. I've got this paired with a 14" Sabian Control Sound crash on a Breakbeats for a small jazz ensemble in very small venues. The thing is completely amazing. I love playing it. Oh, bright, dark? If it were any darker, I don't think you'd hear the ride section. What sticks you use make more difference on this than on any cymbal I've played. Wood tips are softer and darker, nylon louder and brighter.

I've been playing drums for 18 yrs & i have had all kinds of Sabian cymbals. I recently got a 20" AAX X-Plosion crash & thought it was awesome. Then i got this 22" Omni & there is no comparison to any other cymbal. This thing has all u need. Honestly you could have some Hi-Hats, omni, & do a gig! Sabian gets my vote!

Comments about Sabian AAX OMNI Ride:

My 18" omni is a nice additional voice to my cymbal set. I have mostly dark sounding cymbals, and the crash on the omni--though 18"--sounds like a 14" or 15" with an almost china-like quick decay. The bell is a bit quiet for full-stage playing, but serves nice in quiet settings. I don't think it's the be-all end-all 'only cymbal you'll need' it is advertised to be, but rather a fresh voice in the sometimes cluttered cymbal world.

I just bought an 18" omni and it is as advertised. the 18" is very bright and fast when you crash it. it actually crashes brighter than my 16" A Custom Fast Crash. the 18" isn't ideal for a ride cymbal, but you can play different areas of the cymbal to get different sounds. all in all, i love it. i would recommend it to anyone looking for a crash/ride.

I love this cymbal! I have been looking for a cymbal that I could ride and get a great ride sound from but also crash and get an amazing crash sound from. Every cymbal I tried could only do one of the two things I wanted it to do. With the Sabian Omni, my search came to an end. I bought the 22-inch model and I love the sound. The unlathed riding area is great and cuts really well and the outer edge is really thin for crashing. Sabian, you have made yet again another great cymbal!

I use my 22" AA Omni as my main ride. The edges of it are crystal smooth almost like a big flat ride and the the inner part towards the bell sounds like a rock ride. That bell is so powerful and cutting it is awesome in every drum set appropriate setting.

This is an amazing ride cymbal. Just what I was looking for! I bought the 22 inch and am incredibly happy about it. This thing sounds amazing. The bell's great, super crashable for kind of a dark, slightly trashy beautiful tone. I have it setup on my jazzier kit: 4 pc, one crash, one ride and hats. Perfect for this situation and many others. On top of it all, it's also a BEAUTIFUL cymbal.

I'm recently getting back into drumming. I started off in bands as a drummer, but when I wanted to write songs and sing I switched to guitar. Still always played drums on my own recordings. I've always played Zildjian cymbals, but I've always wanted a crash/ride, so in getting my new kit, I'm doing a Ringo set up, so I went to the music store and played every crash ride they had and bought the 22" Sabian AAX Omni. I have been delighted with it. It does everything I want it to, nice dry ping in the center area, nice bell sound and if you hit the edge, nice crash sound. Mine even came with Jojo Mayer's signature. I don't know if they all do, but it was cool. Very versatile cymbal. Highly recommended from me if you want a crash/ride.

Comments about Sabian AAX OMNI Ride:

Incredibly versatile! Great bell, nice dry ping in center of cymbal, rich wash on outer section. quick response when crashed especially for a 22in. When used as a ride, the center portion has a nice low pitch but when crashed on outer section it is fairly high pitched with a very slight trashy quality. If someone wasn't watching you play they could easily think you are hitting two separate cymbals. I have actually removed my right hand side crash from my setup for this reason as it covers both crash and ride duties spectacularly. Simplify man!
I would say however this is not a great cymbal for the bashers out there as it is very thin on the outer edge and has a fairly mellow volume... but thats one of the main reasons i love it. the fact that it doesn't overpower the rest of the kit like a lot of big rides can. SO GOOD!
