I own it

By Urban Azia

Comments about Toca Synergy Freestyle Black Mamba Cannon Djembe:

I got this drum last month and just shortly had a performance where I needed something light but effective. The Toca Mamba surely works. Sounds good, bottom is very good. I certainly would buy another and would recommend it as a must have.

Black Mamba rocks...

Comments about Toca Synergy Freestyle Black Mamba Cannon Djembe:

I purchased the Black Mamba a couple of months ago after doing some research on it. The drum is super light and has a cool, unique sound, high slap sounds and really deep bass. I wasn't completely satisfied with the plastic body( I thought that the body could have been constructed with a little heavier plastic), but stabalized the drum from vibrating too much by hand sewing leather around the bottom, and was then happy. The sound is not like my solid mahogany drums from plantation wood, but the beauty is in its lightness and "big" sound. I used it at a few drum circles and this big black drum was immediately noticed and asked about by more than a few people.

ringing..

Comments about Toca Synergy Freestyle Black Mamba Cannon Djembe:

this drum looks kinda cool and is very light. however from my experiences it does not stay in tune very well. also the sound produced isn't to good either. i would recommend a djembe with a wood shell, unless you need something like this.

About Me Novice

Comments about Toca Synergy Freestyle Black Mamba Cannon Djembe:

I'm a novice at djembe, but have bought three: two Remo (key tuned) and one Toca (rope tuned). Compared to the djembe sound I hear on MP3s, YouTube, etc., the Toca sounds horrible. Rings like a metal barrel. Tone and slap sound almost exactly the same, both bad. The bass is OK. The drum head seems to be tight enough, but possibly it's just horribly out of tune. One of my two Remos (heavier in weight) sounds pretty good, but the other Remo sounds bad (even after following recommendations from Remo customer support). But not as bad as this Toca. Maybe it's just the lightweight, synthetic body that's mostly to blame. I can reduce some of the ringing by temporarily sticking some weatherstripping at various places on the drum head. Now I understand why many reviewers recommend just spending the extra money and buying an authentic, wooden, hand-made djembe. If I can re-tune this Toca and make it sound good, I'll come back and post a correction to this negative review.

Comments about Toca Synergy Freestyle Black Mamba Cannon Djembe:

If you like heavy wooden djembes then this Toca isn't for you. This 14 inch Black Mamba is lightweight, has a real skin top, and plays every sound that you are looking for. The bottom end on this model is huge. It looks cool and it is easy to transport. Then again, you might be more attracted to those heavy wooden drums that you can tote around.
