I loved this cymbal. I got it a few years ago as a gift from my (awesome) friends, who I'm sure were sick of hearing me talk about how I couldn't wait to get the money to buy it. The tone you get out of this thing is amazing. Ride it on top and it plays nice. Crash it and it comes to life. The bell is good too. Not the best I've heard, but very solid. You can expect some ping, a nice bit of wash, and warm overtones from this cymbal. I loved to crash ride this thing. Nice full sound with great tone. Also, as with most high end cymbals, it got better with age. I constantly rubbed my hands over it and touched it to get it nice and dirty. This really brought more of that warmth out of it and took some of that "new cymbal harshness" away.
Unfortunately, after about 3 years, it cracked. I replaced it with a Sand Ride, but I do miss this cymbal.
I highly recommend this cymbal because of its tone, versatility, and quality (I didn't take it easy on it).

This replaces a Sabian XS ride that was great while I was learning to play. But as my playing has improved, so has my appreciation of professional quality equipment.

The only problem I have now is that I can appreciate the subtle differences that a high-end cymbal has, I want to replace my crash and hats, too!
Great swing/ride pings cut through the rest of the band and decay fast enough to limit wash effect. Nice bell.
Beautiful hammered finish. Best sounding cymbal I've ever played.

I got what I paid for: a top-shelf cymbal that I'll probably never need to upgrade.

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Dark Ride Cymbal:

This cymbal is definitely worth the price. I used a ZBT ride for years prior to having this, and thought that was good enough. Well, when I played this cymbal (20") for 5 minutes it blew that ZBT cymbal off the stand.

The crash quality this cymbal has is so great, it makes me forget that this is just a ride. The bell cuts through loud rock music and sounds very powerful, but not obnoxious. Although, in my opinion the K series is optimized for jazz, it works just as well for other genres such as rock or funk.

Buy this cymbal, you won't regret it.

I bought this cymbal 3 years ago and use it all the time. Works great for jazz, Top 40, rock, you name it. Change stick tips (wood vs nylon or the shape of the wood tip) for a totally different sound. I often buy used equipment but bought this cymbal new and have never regretted. Sometimes I use something with a little more ping for outside concerts of over 500 people if we aren't using an overhead mic but otherwise this is my workhorse.

Overall, very happy with this cymbal.
I like this cymbal a lot. Used in the Duke Jazz Ensemble, we tried it out this week (22") and it was fabulous. Being a little dark, it rode along comfortably under the group and shined and stood out when it had to, but the glorious overall sound is something to behold. The ping is just enough when you need it and the sticks and brushes both shimmered.
A fantastic looking and sounding cymbal.
Worth it for the sound it gives you.

If you're looking for a great ride, this is it. This ride seems to have the best mix of everything. It isn't too pingy, it isn't too washy, it's right where I think a ride should be. Mostly I use this with a jazz combo and big band, and it does everything I want it to. For cost reasons, I went with the 20", and it's worth every penny.

I purchased about two weeks ago and so far this is the best ride I've owned (with the exception of an old Paiste)in 30 years!!! The ping is defined, the wash is dark but not too dark and the mix is sophisticated. I own the 22 inch version and the balance is perfect!!! I can carry the ride through loud guitars and keyboards yet maintain a smooth ride at more mellow volumes. The bell is a little weak but if struck properly can penetrate any volumes. The crash is also mellow but penetrating. At first, I thought it was not dark enough but now I think it has the perfect balance. Although a little pricey, this cymbal is well worth the investment. Get it!!!

                  Excellent Quality...Slightly limited sound

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Dark Ride Cymbal:

I bought this ride two years ago to replace a cheap ride that came with my kit. At the time I despised that tinny, pingy, echoey sound and wanted something with a very fast decay and something that cut through. This cymbal delivered. You get excellent stick definition - I use nylon tips to get even more ping. You get an ear pleasing, low level wash with the ping on top of it AND a quick decay, so no more ringy, echoey sound hanging out there when you stop hitting hit. My only qualms are 1) it does not produce a desireable crash sound for most rock/classic rock sound as some rides do, and 2) it isn't very bright. Brightness is really my biggest issue with it - on some songs you want that brighter wash, and this, as the name implies, is a darker, lower wash and even a slightly lower toned ping. I am now considering a sweet ride to fill in where this ride comes up short - as a occassional crash and brighter ride. If you want a more versatile ride, go with a sweet ride or similar product. In my opinion, the dark ride pairs best with metal, grunge, goth. I don't play much of that stuff, but this ride is quality enough to hold its own in any genre.
