I am the one man band Built For Slow. I have a foot pedal rig that allows me to play the crash cymbal with my foot. I was looking for a cymbal that was quick and explosive with a very fast decay. I didn't want the ping associated with a china cymbal. This fit the bill nicely. I use the 8" so I can fit all of my drums in one small bag. When I first tried the cymbal by itself, it had some overtones at the end of the decay I didn't like but when I used it while playing drums and guitar at the same time, It sounded fantastic because the really quiet overtones disappeared under the sonic assault. What you are left with is a really loud and quick edgy splashy sound. I really like it and it adds to the show. It has a unique sound and the price is right. It is thin, but I really haven't had any trouble with it yet but I've only played 2 shows with it so far.
It doesn't look like it would break soon unless you just hammer cymbals.

I own several of the 8" and 10" sizes, back when they were part of the ZXT line. Zildjian discontinued the ZXT line in 2014, so now they are just part of the Sound Effects series. Too bad, because they were WAAAAAY better back in the ZXT days.

When they were ZXT's, they were made from the ZXT alloy, and were actually machine hammered. Sure the ZXT alloy wasn't great, but it's much better than what Zildjian uses on these now (sheet metal). Also, especially on the small size cymbals, they were not as bent and deformed as they are today, so you could actually use them as quick and trashy splashes or accents. Both of my 8" cymbals are barely bent at all, and sound like real, honest to goodness, good quality splashes, due to their thinness. My 10"s are a little more bent but still sound somewhat "normal", albeit trashier than a typical splash.

Now, they are being made much more deformed and bent, and don't really sound like anything but a trash can lid! They are also much stiffer and harder to play now then they were. The are no longer made of any kind of "alloy". It's sheet metal, pure and simple. It's certainly not hammered, and doesn't even look to be lathed at all. Don't let Zildjian's marketing fool you, it is plain old sheet metal that has been put in a kiln (to discolor it by heating it) and then bent and deformed. And that's exactly what it sounds like! If you bought a piece of sheet metal, drilled a small hole in the center, heated up it in your oven, and then took it out and deformed it, you would have exactly what one of these are, minus the logo. And it would probably sound the same (awful) as these do.

I know these are "specialty" cymbals that fit a niche, but they were infinitely better cymbals when they were part of the ZXT line. I would try to find a used one with the ZXT printing on it; those were light years better. And for Zildjian to charge the prices that they do for these bent pieces of sheet metal, they should be ashamed of themselves. You can make 10 of these yourself for the cost of 1 from Zildjian. And it wouldn't sound any worse!

I recommend getting an older one with the ZXT logo, that was actually made from a real cymbal alloy, hammered and lathed. As far as these new ones, don't bother. They wouldn't be worth it at half the price.

STACKER!!! i got the 10 in to use a splash, but then i thought "hey i have an extra 14 in zildjizn zbt crash, why not stack that mother on there, see what happens" i was not dissapointed people this cymbals was born to stack. it gives a sort of a dark, trashy, almost sizzle-like sound to my crash and it is a sick -core instrument

Comments about Zildjian ZXT Trashformer Cymbal:

I have owned 2 of these over the last 8 months, and they're now both broken. I got the 10" model and used it as a splash, not knowing they're meant for cymbal stacks, and it lasted about 4 months of frequent use then cracked. I bought another (also 10") to use rarely for a crisp accent, now knowing they're not durable cymbals. This one cracked after 3 weeks of barely hitting it! Fortunately, I am still able to use these as stackers, they work great inside a hi hat to give it a trashy tone or on top of a china. I hope to replace these with some heavier duty splashes. The other good thing about these is that they're very cheap so replacing them isn't too big an issue. Get them, and play around with the stacking possibilities, but don't expect it to last as a splash on its own.

Comments about Zildjian ZXT Trashformer Cymbal:

This is a great accent cymbal. I have the 14 inch, and i use it mostly as a china, or a really big splash. This cymbal, as the name "Trashformer" suggests, is a very dark, thrashy cymbal that I selected for metal. It sounds great when im covering songs by "A day to remember" or "Lamb of God" It does break very easily, i have had mine for about 1 month, and i play almost every day for like an hour and it already is starting to bend and crack. but if you need it, get it.

Comments about Zildjian ZXT Trashformer Cymbal:

I came across this in a local music store about 5 years ago. Thought it was an the end result of how not to strike a cymbal. Needless to say, I've been using it ever since. Cracked my first one due to not respecting it's thinness. When fellow musicians see it on stage for the first time they question it, without saying anything. However, once they see what it contributes to the overall performance, they can't get over it. Well worth the minimal investment. Don't over play it. Remember, it is an "accent" piece.

Comments about Zildjian ZXT Trashformer Cymbal:

I purchased this cymbol used a little while back now it is thin but it has held up well for me, also it does not mark if you use nylon tipped sticks, the tone is bold crisp and yes trashy. due to its wavy randum shape it has little structure and is quite week but it is supposed to sound trashy so if yours cracks i doubt it would make much of a difference, i recomend it , its price is lower then i think it should be but i wont complain if you wont.

Comments about Zildjian ZXT Trashformer Cymbal:

The trashformer has a pretty cool sound to it. I actually have to say I was pleasantly suprised by its unique sound. I was expecting more of a splashy style, but instead its more of a china and crash combined or something like that. Very unique, and it adds a great option for more sounds to your set. It also looks pretty rad too.

I've had this cymbal for about a week and I practice daily. I bought this because it looked cool and it sounds amazing. Previous reviews stated that its thinness is its only weakness. I have hit this cymbal fairly hard and it takes what I throw at it. My only complaint is that it isn't loud enough. But other than that, it is a great addition to my kit.

Comments about Zildjian ZXT Trashformer Cymbal:

I got this cymbal as a surprise bonus in a ZXT Rock package. After removing it from the box, I first thought it was one of my hats that got seriously beat up during shipping. Ha Ha. Anyways, this thing sounds great! You get a nice trashy sound from a cymbal the size of a large splash, and it's way cheaper than buying a full-size china. Just yesterday, I was cleaning my cymbals and I noticed this particular one had two cracks, almost perfectly across from each other and of identical length. I was surprised, because out of all my cymbals, this one receives the least "abuse". I beat the living crap out of my 10" Flash Splash, and I have yet to see any signs of wear on that thing. The trashformer sounds good, it's cheap, but it is thin, and probably weaker than any other cymbal Zildjian makes due to its "wavy" structure. Again, it IS cheap, so maybe you should buy two! If by some chance you do notice cracks in yours and they are less than 1/4" in length, drill a hole at the leading point of the crack using a small drill bit that is slightly wider than the crack. This should stop the crack from speading. Peace.

this is a cool looking and sounding cymbal, but it dents real easily. a solution is to stack it on top of a crash, no felts in between or anything. this way, it sounds like a power trash crash, with strong tonalities in between a crash and a china. Check it out.

A year ago, I bought this cymbal and harped on its thinness. However, this cymbal has grown on me and become my pride-and-joy. I was terrified that the last of my drum money was going to be blown on a broken impulse, but despite the thinness of it, it is very sturdy, and sounds the exact same, if not better, than it did a year ago. Wow.

I have had this cymbal for almost a year and it still sounds great. I use the trashformer as much as I use my crashes. Buy it, it's a great deal no matter what price is!!!!

This thing is awesome, it is super cheep but a high quality for the money. I'v had it for three and a half months and it has not even shown my finger marks. It cuts through every other piece on a drumset and is more colorful than a normal china. You definitly wont be dissapointed. Its cheep, it has a great sound, and it'll replace a much more expensive china. Buy it today!

I love the sound that comes out of this cymbal! I wish they had multiple sizes. I would buy a big one if they made. I've been slamming this cymbal with no problems, but I don't use the big rock sticks either. This cymbal just has so much more color to its sound. Normal cymbals sound like childrens toys compared to this one. It's cheap, just buy one and try it. An awsome product!
