Gold Tone gt-750

By Ryan McDevitt

from New Jersey

Comments about Gold Tone GT-750:

I've been playing guitar for five years now and always wanted to learn banjo. This banjo is fun to play but weighs a ton. The setup out of the box was not so great but after a trip to my guitar tec it's perfert.
well made. Love the maple. The only thing that could of made the quality of this product better is if it was made in th USA.
I have played my friends higher end Deering and I think that the Gold Tone ranks right up their with it. Well worth the price.

A Beautiful Instrument

By GuitarGeezerGuy

Comments about Gold Tone GT-750:

I've had this banjo for about 7 or 8 years now. I use it wherever a strummed tenor banjo would normally be used - New Orleans jazz gigs or period music from turn of the century through the 30's. Very useful for pit band doubles. Out of the box the instrument is beautiful - the flamed maple resonator looks gorgeous through the transparent head. The action was perfectly set up. It weighs a ton, plan on buying a very good padded strap. The fingerboard and neck carve are very wide and deep at the nut - took some getting used to, even for a guitarist. The sound is rich and singing in the midrange and treble and projects beautifully, but don't expect any true power or sustain from the lowest notes. Changing out the head to a stiffer opaque one might help that, if you really need the bass register to pop. The pickup has been only marginally useful. I use it occasionally, but it has no volume pot on my stock version, sounds much more like the neck pickup on a guitar than a banjo and adjusting it toward the bridge radically affects the sound of the head. The instrument mics very well when necessary though, and often I don't need that, it's so loud. (for that matter, it wouldn't be hard to install a contact mic.) The tuning machines were a disappointment - the faus nacre buttons cracked on three out of six within six months of getting the axe. Short take - it's beautiful to look at, sounds lovely, has a nice case and does the job admirably within my budget, but if I had infinite bucks I might tempted by a high-end Deering.
