Comments about Hohner 364/24 Marine Band Harmonica:

This version of the Marine Band has 12 holes, which puts it in the middle of its smaller and bigger brothers, the 10 and 14 hole models. Mine is in the key of G. Compared to the 10 hole MB, it is longer, taller, and deeper in size, with 4 extra notes on the treble end. Compared to the 14 hole MB, the dimensions are the same except that it is not as long. The holes are not numbered like they are on the 10 hole model. It comes in a soft plastic case with two snaps. I think that the hard plastic case that you get with the 10 hole MB affords more protection and is more convenient to open and close. The Hohner 364/24 is louder than the 10 hole MB, but they both sound good and are well made, as you have come to expect from German Hohners. Practally speaking, I mostly use 10 hole MBs, but sometimes choose the 364/24 or the 365 (14 hole). I think that the 365 has an advantage of extra bass notes that you don't get with the 364/24, but they are not cheap. If I feel the urge to play a bigger MB than a 10 hole, I feel that the 14 hole has an advantage over the 12 hole. They are both large harmonicas, so if I am giving up the compact size of the 10 hole, I want the extra bass notes of the 14 hole. None the less, this is a good sounding harmonica, and a welcomed addition to my harmonica box.

Comments about Hohner 364/24 Marine Band Harmonica:

Granted, this is my first higher quality harmonica. I liked this harmonica from the minute I held it. The stainless steel cover plates give it a nice heft. Plus, the engraving is "super classy". But, more importantly, it has great response when playing softly and an overall good sound. I got the key of G and I'm not too fond of playing the higher register so, the range isn't too important to me. The vinyl case looks nice but I'm not too sure if that will last too long. I read a previous review stating the spacing was larger than most diatonics. It is, I like a little room to play in. However, there is one complaint that I have. I didn't know the Pearwood comb was so absorbent(which causes swelling). This can be fixed pretty easily. Just coat it in polyurethane, or some other sealant. This may be something you want to do before you play it too much. This will save some sanding. But, I say go for it.

Comments about Hohner 364/24 Marine Band Harmonica:

I have a C and like the last few people said, it is an octave lower which really is a great sound in the cross harp mode. Bending the 1st hole is possible if you're real strong. I play cross harp on my C, just like a normal diatonic harp, such as a marine band, special 20, or blues harp etc. It has 2 extra holes on the TOP: the 11 hole blow is the 6th, (of the crossharp key,G) 11 hole draw is the 3rd. 12th hole blow is a high tonic (1), an octave higher than the 9th hole, so you have a 4 octave range, with of course some missing notes. 12th hole draw is the "5" of the key. I belive the G 324 is the same pitch as a normal G harp, but with the 2 extra holes so getting a G wouldn't be any big deal.I think the D might be just a whole step above myLow C, so that would be useful for some A blues, assuming it was an octave lower than a regular harp. If anyone knows if the D is a bass harp like the C is, I'd appreciate a post here and I'll check back. thanks

I fell in love with the first one I bought. The wood never swelled. When one of the reads broke I bought a second one and the wood swelled right up and inhibited my playing. I kept sanding it down. Don't know why one would swell on one and not the other

Comments about Hohner 364/24 Marine Band Harmonica:

First of all, this harmonica (the one I own) is an octave lower than other harmonicas. Which is really cool. Unfortunatly, due to the size of the reeds needed for it, it takes a lot of force to move the reeds. Other than that, it's a good harmonica.

Excellent instrument. While I will probably do some "detailing" to the wood comb, I love it - the response to soft input. It is laid out like the chromatic, but no button for sharp/flats. A little fat where your lips seal if you are a pucker player, but it is certainly do-able. I am getting the knack after only an hour. I like it.

Has a very nice and mellow, rich sound

Comments about Hohner 364/24 Marine Band Harmonica:

I own one in the key of C and it plays an entire octive lower than your average Key of C Harmonica. This one has 12 holes and all 12 sound pretty cool - especially in a slow song. What I don't like is that the holes are not numbered and the spacing between the holes is quite larger than other diatonic harmonicas, so it's a bit to get used to.
