      OVERVIEW

An economical, 10-hole harmonica for all ages.

The 10-hole, diatonic Hohner 572 Hot Metal Harmonica has a smooth and comfortable plastic comb, brass reeds, and stainless steel covers. It's an economical harmonica for those looking to rock out while playing rock 'n' roll or lay down some blues. The 572 Hot Metal is similar to Hohner's Old Standby harmonica but with a little more edge and a brighter sound. It's tough, durable, easy-on-the-wallet, and a great starter harp for those just finding their chops.

      About Hohner:
Hohner is a family company founded in 1857 in Trossingen, Germany by Matthias Hohner. Hand-made quality and close attention to detail has set Hohner apart from the beginning. Hohner harmonicas are played on the street by buskers, in intimate nightclubs, on festival stages, and even in Carnegie Hall. Despite a diverse harmonica line used in music from country to classical genres, the most famous Hohner harmonicas are their simple, 10-hole diatonics used frequently by blues, rock, country, and folk musicians.

Nice tone, projects treble well due to stainless-steel covers. Has a nice weight to it, a little heavier than most low-end harps, probably due to a heavier reed plate than most cheapies.Hohner's 'Hot Metal' harp is not the greatest, but you already know that. That aside, it sure surprised me with how well it sounded. My old harp, may it rest in peace, sounded nice and mellow, but the Hot Metal covers all those tones with better clarity and projection of treble tones.All-in-all, it's the perfect "no worries pocket harp" for me to keep in my coat pocket for times when I can play a little (e.g., waiting in the car at kids' sports practice, stress-breaks at work, etc.) For the price, it's hard to beat and fun to play.

Hohner should be ashamed of this harmonica. It is not in tune. The reeds stick. It is leaky and does not have a good sound. I understand that it is a cheap harmonica, but I believe it should, nevertheless, be on key and playable since I paid for a functioning and properly tuned instrument. The same can be said of blues band, and other cheap Hohner harmonicas. Hohner should be embarrassed by the inferior quality of these harps. No matter the price of the harmonica, it should be right. I have a Hohner John Lennon model as well, and it is, at least playable and in proper tune. Hot metal harps are awful. I will not buy another Hohner because I believe all harmonics should be properly manufactured, tuned, sealed, and playable.

Comments about Hohner 572 Hot Metal Harmonica:

I bought both a D and an A tuned harmonica. It's the first Hot Metal ones I've had. So far, they are easy to play. Only time will tell how long they last, but since I'll only use them to accompany a few songs our group plays, I dought I'll wear them out.

I have been playing since I was 4 years old and the second harp I bought was a hot metal. I play blues and gospel and some up beat sounds. They hold out great and are comfortable in the hand. Being in the Crossroads band I have the opportunity to try many harps, but for the price and sound the Hot metals are my favorite..

I've baught two of these harps - D and A (and still waiting for G). The A harp plays pretty well for the price. The D one is just terrible - leaks a lot of air, buzzes, gets stuck. I tried to adjust the reeds but it did not help much (on several other harps the results were much better). So I think the main problem is inconsistency of manufacturing. With some luck one can get a good beginner's instrument, but it can also be total waste of money.

Comments about Hohner 572 Hot Metal Harmonica:

This thing is really bad. When I blow into it, the air goes everywhere except through the reeds. It isn't worth my while to pay to Return it.
I have a Lee Oscar that I found in the gutter that is better than this.
Yes, I have a Lee Oscar and a Special 20, so maybe I am expecting too much. But I have owned Blues Band and Old Standby harps that are budget Harmonicas. And they were better.
I will not even take this out to give it away to a street person.
                This is really bad.
I should have believed the other reviews that said "DO NOT BUY!"

I have 80+ harps (plus 5 guitars, 3 keyboards, sax, flutes, banjos, accordian, uke), I have harps of all the major brands and price ranges. Three of these are old Hot Metals, and they are the only ones I haven't ruined the reeds on yet. Very durable; very playable/bendable, and have a fair sound.I bought these new Hot Metals to see if the old ones were just a fluke. (Not!)

Great buy for a beginner. Chicago Blues harps cost about one-third as much, but are so leaky they're nearly impossible to play well. The Hot Metal isn't the best sound, it's hard to bend, etc. Nevertheless, if you're trying to find out whether harmonica is something you want to spend your time learning, this is a cheap way to discover the joy of playing. After you decide you do like the instrument, invest in a Lee Oskar by Tombo.

Comments about Hohner 572 Hot Metal Harmonica:

I play Keyboards 2+ days every week, and use inexpensive harps to cover the cliche'd Top-40 harmonica lines from those iconic tunes. And YES, a cheap harmonica still sounds better than an expensive synth.
The Jambones are a little cheaper, but for one or two bux more you get a brighter tone with the "Hot Metal" series.
Discard the reviews by the harp "Purists" that try to compare it to a harp costing 4x as much. We all know you can't really "bend" notes on an inexpensive harmonica. We all know you shorten the life of any harp if you overblow it. Both the Jambones and Hot Metal harps are inexpensive and fill the gap nicely when a real harmonica is needed.
CONCLUSION: Great for the beginner... or the "working player" needing to emulate those iconic Top-40 harp riffs!
