weight of the harp and the chrome is very good. Reeds won't last long, and it's not as airtight as a more expensive harp. But it is a playable harmonica.
What do you expect?? It's a good solid harmonica for the money.
Good enough to learn on.
Cheap, but I don't think you'll find anything better in this price range.

The Chinese made Hohner Bluesband is only good for two things: to buy in bulk to give them away, or for a complete beginner who is not sure if they will stick with the harmonica and don't want to spend more cash.If you want a low priced Chinese made Hohner, I suggest you spend a couple dollars more and get the Old Standby, as it seems to be the best quality for the Chinese line, and it has a louder and fuller sound. Don't get the Chinese made Blues Bender (a different model than the Bluesband), as it is way overpriced for a Chinese made harp, and the quality is no better than the Old Standby.

As good a harp to learn on as a person needs.

Comments about Hohner Blues Band Harmonica 1501:

The first song I learned to play after "Three blind mice" and "Yankee Doodle" was something like "Oh Suzanna" or "I'm an old cowhand on the Rio Grande". These harps are great for finding your way up and down the scales and learning old favorites to play at a camp ground... If you take your time on one in the keys of G or A and don't over stress the reeds before you are familiar the term "Embouchure". By forcibly using air pressure in the attempt to bend notes you destroy even the most expensive harps... You will find that one of these harps will loosen up and allow note bending to be performed in time... I suggest checking out any number of websites devoted to Blues Harp to find out the proper way to bend notes and practice, practice, practice.

mixed feelings

Comments about Hohner Blues Band Harmonica 1501:

This harmonica is a serious misnomer. Although titled bluesband, it is definitely not good for blues. For one, the comb has very small holes making notes harder to bend than normal. It has very stiff reeds making notes play at a constant pitch, also a failure for blues. Tone quality is nominal. For rock and country this would be sub par but for blues, just awful. The more expensive Hohners are excellent harmonicas but this thing is not!

Don't waste your money

By D.A. Skeens

Comments about Hohner Blues Band Harmonica 1501:

Bought this as a Christmas gift and when my father opened it and started to play it he realized there was a "dead spot" in it. His old one of a different brand he's had for 15 years played better. I didn't think to keep the receipt because it looked fine when it arrived in the mail. So I will now have to go and buy another harmonica -- a better harmonica for him.

Basic harmonica. Good as a starter.
This was a Christmas gift for a young person.
The quality was better than we expected for the
price. Following some experience we may step
up to the Marine Band.

if you want a harp and don't want to spend a lot, this is for youI am not a good harp-player, but I can play to songs and bend a few notes, and this fills the bill.I'd forgotten how much fun it was to play, until my son got one recently. I'm going to order the 7-piece set for $30 (!!!!) so I can jam to just about any song I want.pros:cheapeasy to playplays what I wantcons:not real robust, can "lose" some notes after awhile (but often come back with a soak in water)

these inexpensive harmonicas are almost as good sounding as the expensive
ones. The reason I tried these were that the expensive ones,( i.e. Lee Oskar in G) goes out of tune very quickly and I can't afford to buy new ones every month or so.

I got this just to have a cheaper harp to toss in my pocket and not be bothered if it got scratched. This one showed up scratched! Also, holes 6,7, and 9 have bad reeds. It takes a lot of air to play and really just isn't worth the money (even if it is this cheap).

I played a Marine band for a long time, until the years finally caught up with it. I don't use a lot of harmonica, only on a couple songs, so I grabbed one of these as a replacement. It doesn't sound quite as good, but it doesn't cost nearly as much either. Honestly, unless you're a professional, this is the most harmonica you will ever need.
