Hohner HA-3100 GCF Diatonic Accordion

By Francisco Silva

from Highland, California

Comments about Hohner HA-3100 Panther GCF Diatonic Accordion:

I liked the black color. It is so "manly". The tone is chrystal clear and I really like that. the buttons seemed a little flimsy at first but now I see that the reason they are so easy to press is that with time, my speed will be greater enhanced with the easy push buttons. The instrument is ultra light, which is a plus. The fan opens easily and I really like that as well. I did not really like the straps that came with it. Although they are nicely padded, I did not like the way they adjust... they fall off the shoulder too easily. Finally, it did not come with a case and I had to spend another $120 to get a good case. If I get another accordion, I will consider a Hohner again. My other accordion is a Rosetti and it was my first one. It plays OK but I like the tone of the Hohner better.

Hohner needs import quality control

Comments about Hohner HA-3100 Panther GCF Diatonic Accordion:

Nice box that blows away the competition from other makers importing from China. I would recommend a Panther over any other box as a new beginner's purchase, but buyer beware, you may want to buy one from a showroom where you are sure it is in tune and working properly. Because mine came with several stuck reeds that would not sound in both the bass and treble ends, plus the tuning above the octave on each of the rows was very poor, almost a quarter tone flat. This is unacceptable at any price. Hohner should employ a quality control team to inspect what is coming out of the Chinese factories before dispatching the accordions to US dealers. Many guitar companies do this, Hohner should do it too.

Comments about Hohner HA-3100 Panther GCF Diatonic Accordion:

The Panther was my first accordion several years ago and it has served me well over this time. I still enjoy its sweet, mellow tone and the action of the buttons are good. I would definite purchase another.

Perfect for learning

By Minhoto

from NJ

Comments about Hohner HA-3100 Panther GCF Diatonic Accordion:

My first impression of the accordion was the lack of attention to details. This accordion is very bare bones and simple, don't expect anything fancy. Everything is basically held together with basic wood screws (including the straps). As I began playing it I realized the sound was very nice and pronounced, it sure sounded like a more expensive accordion but the overall feel of it is cheap. It lacks a bellow pad which I find very annoying but that is a minor detail; the buttons overall feel good with a minor annoying chatter from the left hand buttons (you don't hear the chatter while playing). All in all this accordion is a great value for it's price, it sounds like a $1k model but the feel and finish is relative to it's price. I would definitely recommend this instrument if your looking for something to learn on.

Happy new owner

Comments about Hohner HA-3100 Panther GCF Diatonic Accordion:

I bought a sofiamari but returned in exchange for the panther. I am very happy I did. The bellow action is faster, buttons are smoother/softer, overall construction is nice. For a chinese made piece they did stick to hohners requirements. Just wish the bass strap was adjustable and that it came with leather straps and a case. Very well worth it for a newbee as myself.

blackpanther

By Mau Thos

Comments about Hohner HA-3100 Panther GCF Diatonic Accordion:

I like the panther. The finish is good and it is attractive. Tone is good. The buttons of the right hand (treble) side have a lovely light touch. However as with many accordions I find the bass (left hand) side too loud and the buttons hard to push. I can quiet the bass notes and chords, but reducing the force needed to press the buttons will be difficult. I do not accept your fine print.

Excellent Value from Hohner

By Skweezboxmaniac

from NM

Comments about Hohner HA-3100 Panther GCF Diatonic Accordion:

Finally, a beginner priced accordion that is made well. The Panther doesn't have the wood finger board or celluloid coverings of it's Corona II brothers, but in terms of quality, it's right up there. Perfect for the beginner, because he won't have to buy a new one, once he gets better. Again...Excellent Value from Hohner.

Comments about Hohner HA-3100 Panther GCF Diatonic Accordion:

Without a doubt an excellent accordion for the price. It has a very clean and bold sound as if playing a Corona II. The action of the buttons are easy and light. I also love the matte finish. I just wish they offered it in other colors and keys.

No case?

Comments about Hohner HA-3100 Panther GCF Diatonic Accordion:

Nice instrument - good sound at a good price, no doubt. But typically Musician's Friend will list recommended accessories if they are not included with the sale item. To keep an instrument like this protected it would be nice to offer a case, as an accessory, to put it in.

Comments about Hohner HA-3100 Panther GCF Diatonic Accordion:

I've been playing the accordion since childhood, so i'm well-experienced in how to play one, however the accordion i've been playing on, an olde Venezia.. probably built between 1890 and 1920, I felt it was time to retire it while it was still intact [since no one in my region can repair them, to my knowledge], as the reeds all buzzed loudly, some stopped working, and others were out-of-tune from so many decades of being played. It was time for a newer accordion that I could play on and enjoy for many years to come.

So I invested into the "Black Panther" by Hohner. It has a great sound, good response, the reeds don't buzz, everything is tuned nicely. Overall, a great accordion to learn on or to practice with if you're a hobbyist accordionist.

I use it mostly for practice, however when i'm playing the bagpipes at military functions, in the times that the loudness of the pipes aren't needed but music would be nice, i'll break out the Black Panther and reel off a few sea chanties or polkas, the soldiers and sailors adore the sound very much as it reminds them strongly of home~
