Besides the standard Marine Band shape, this holder does a great job on the Hohner Golden Melody.
Those who have trouble loading a harp into the Lee Oscar holder are not doing it properly, for goodness sakes, don't go hacking off chunks of those industrial strength springs. (You might need one some night if you break a spring on your van on your way home from a gig!)
      1) Tilt the harp so that the top ridge at the back is under the top bar of the holder.
      2) Hold the harp gently at both ends with thumb and forefingers.
      3) Push the ends of the follower down with your middle fingers.
      4) Snap the harp in place with your thumb and forefingers. It goes in easily.
      5) To remove the harp simply reverse the process.
I often change harps every number. No sweat.
I just love this holder because, unlike the others that I have, it holds the harp very well and does not allow it to move...something that drives me stark raving mad. I have enough to think about onstage without having to worry that the harp will not be in the right position when I am ready to blow. Some of the reveiwers have written that the holder is too high and interferes with them singing into the mic. I do not have this problem at all. Maybe just a difference in styles. I highly recomend it.
Worth every penny of the money MF charges for it.

This looked like the answer. It's a well-made harp brace, alright, but the springs are the kiss of death. They're unnecessarily too strong! I had to cut off two revolutions of coil to make this product half-way useable. I'd go for a third turn except I fear it might make it too sloppy. The bottom line is, I can't switch harps quickly as I can with my old Elton brace. Not without almost standing on my head while struggling to insert a harp. I don't believe the Elton is being manufactured anymore. It was a great investment. With the 30 year-old Elton, I just pop the harmonica into my lips, open the clamp with my fingers and drop it in. That's about four seconds. It's puzzling to think that both Steve Earle and Bob Dylan seem to have no problems doing a harp-change with their own Lee Oskar holders. Also, I've noticed that my Elton is the exact perfect height for my playing. The newer Oskar, seems a bit high and needs to be bent and angled a tad to lose the extra height to my lips. In fairness, it's a sturdy harmonica-brace, very well-made and fitted with good wingnuts. Would I buy another one? I don't think so. My brand new one still hangs on the wall after two years; and five minutes'-worth of trying to use it. My Elton, hopefully, has another thirty years left in it. Too bad the springs killed the Lee Oskar unit. They almost had a great product.

Well, it is well made etc etc. and good for standing ...looking out in the crowd!
But for learning, I need to look down at my instruments and mass of papers and music notes.
When I look down the harmonica is above my eyes.
and at best, it is banging into my nose.
If you want to play the harmonica with this holder you better never look down.
How did Neil Young play, and be concentrating on his piking and note playing ...
          NOT with this holder.

Still looking...or I will build my own.

The springs are stiff, struggled with putting the harmonica in until i figured it out. Just place the harmonica on it and press down, slides right in and holds it firmly. It stays in place around your neck really well also. Works great!

Comments about Lee Oskar Harmonica Holder:

I have had my holder for many years. It is not the same make as this one but it is the same design. I have tried other designs and none of them worked for me though I will admit I have not tried anything new in a long time. But I don't feel any need to try anything else because mine works and works good. I've seen some complaints that the springs are too heavy. Don't pay any attention to it because that's just what you want. The last thing you need when your playing is for your harp to be moving because the springs are to light. I have used mine for years and the springs are still stiff but my harps don't move not even a little bit. If I was in need of a new rack I would pick one of these up. The design is time tested and I'm sure it would work every bit as good as the one I have.

This rack measures 7 inches from wing nut to harp. The equivalent Hohner model measures 5 3/4 inches. At 5' 11", I find the extra length more comfortable. The springs are a bit stiffer but didn't cause me any trouble.

Comments about Lee Oskar Harmonica Holder:

I just got this harmonica holder a month ago and it is true what everyone says; the springs absolutely suck. I know that this is the best harmonica holder out there, in terms of how it sits on your neck, but the springs kill it. My friend had an older one with great springs and it appears that they have changed them. I hope that they fix this problem because I don't want to get frustrated fiddling with this thing on stage. What I do like about it, and why I will continue to use it is how it sits on my shoulders and neck. It is the least likely holder to end up scooting over to one side, and I should know since I have used most of the harmonica holders out there. It is also very comfortable, despite its minimalist design and lack of padding. I am waiting to buy another one of these as soon as I hear that they have fixed the spring situation, come on Lee Oscar! You had to have known that those springs were junk but you sold it anyway. Disappointed.

This thing REALLY hold the harp but at the same time, is a bit of a pain to put it in. As you play it, it has a tendency to kind of move around your neck requiring a readjustment. I'm trying to figure out how to keep it in position better.
