Traditionally I have replaced the whole harmonica when they died, but with 3 dead ones at once the $12 savings each sounded appealing. Let me say right up front, these are excellent reeds and work as described. Be warned replacing them is more difficult that one would expect. The 3 screws holding the whole assembly together are REALLY tight to take apart and need to be REALLY tight when put back together. You will need a high quality phillips head screwdriver with a very narrow tip. A cheap screwdriver will bend before the screws strip. Conversely, the screw heads will strip if you don't apply enough downward pressure (while trying not to bend the delicate reeds!). It is a tedious, detailed little job and if you do it all correctly, everything is great, but there is lots of room for error here. An odd problem I encountered was the packaging. The reeds are sandwiched in hard plastic with an individual "pocket" for each AND a pocket for the 3 replacement screws. The sandwiching is loose and on 2 different packages the screws were rolling around in the pocket with the reeds and got stuck up under one bending it out of shape making it useless. Musicians friend replaced both promptly, but be sure to inspect thoroughly prior to installing or you'll get to do it all again. If you're not handy with tools spend the extra $12, get a whole new harp and save some money somewhere else. Give your old harp to a kid; they'll love it even if it's out of tune!

Took a long time to install, had to do several times as very touchy to get just right. Never sounded as good as original. Several holes stopped playing after a week or so. Will definitely never do this again. When you consider you're only saving a little, and may or may not work, it's better just to get a new harp that you know will work right.

Comments about Lee Oskar Major Diatonic Reed Plates:
I've been a little disappointed in some Lee Oskar reedplates I've purchased over the last few years, but this one seems particularly responsive. I'm still surprised that the packaging is not very secure/safe for these reedplates.

Comments about Lee Oskar Major Diatonic Reed Plates:
The ability to replace the reeds for a professional quality harmonica is awesome. After a lot of use the reeds can wear out but with the Lee Oscar you can repair the harp for less than buying a new one.

Comments about Lee Oskar Major Diatonic Reed Plates:
Replacing your own reed plates is extremely satisfying after the frustration of playing with fatigued reeds! It is easy but you must handle reed plates with care. If you can learn to play the harp, believe me, you can replace your own reeds!

Comments about Lee Oskar Major Diatonic Reed Plates:
I've been playing Lee Oscars for 25 years, this is the first time I bought reed plates, and I will be buying them from now on.
Very easy to replace.
Could not believe how out of tune my harp was.
When I started playing, a new harp cost this much, but if your comb is good, this is a money saver .
Comments about Lee Oskar Major Diatonic Reed Plates:
cheaper than buying a new horn.
a lot of the reeds are sticking right out of the package.
you raised your prices. i'll buy elsewhere
Comments about Lee Oskar Major Diatonic Reed Plates:
I blew out my C harp and thought I'd try to repair it myself. I ordered the reeds and in about 5 minutes I had fixed the harp and now it plays like new. Just be careful when you are retightening the screws that hold the plates on. I held the unit up in the air as any excessive pressure on the reeds can cause them to go out of tune or become damaged.
Well it seems like everythng is expensive these days, but it seems crazy that a harmonica, and/or set of reeds can cost so much to produce.
Comments about Lee Oskar Major Diatonic Reed Plates:
Installed with no problem and works as well as the original plates. Better than buying a new harp.
