An affordable nylon string with a hand-selected solid cedar top, narrow neck and B-BAND electronics.

Artist Series classical guitars are beautifully made using a traditional Spanish heel construction. Their thoughtful bracing helps deliver sustain, balance and volume. This Hybrid version AC65HCE is a classical guitar with a narrower nut (48mm) and therefore thinner neck. The fingerboard is also arched with a radius similar to that of steel string guitars. So really, it’s a nylon string guitar that sounds like a classical but plays like steel string. It's also fitted with the wonderful SYS650 blend system EQ.

The Alvarez Artist Series AC65HCE Classical Hybrid Acoustic-Electric Guitar is a member of the Alvarez Artist ’60 Series. Alvarez was careful to get the construction just right to allow this series to sing, and deliver a player experience that's exceptional for a mid price instrument.

The term “solid top” of course refers to the soundboard of an acoustic guitar being made of solid wood, rather than being laminated. However, just because the top is solid, it doesn't necessarily mean the sound automatically benefits from this feature. The tone of the instrument only improves significantly when the whole guitar is built correctly to really release the energy a solid soundboard can generate. The Artist Series is built to do exactly this.

Each model is designed to get the best out if its components, and for them to work together to produce a tone and player experience, rarely found in affordable instruments.

The sound is warm, open and powerful, and both the treble and bass registers are clearly present and balanced in relation to each other. These guitars feel right and are exciting to play and responsive.

The solid ‘A’ grade cedar tops are hand selected from quarter-sawn wood. This ensures consistent quality, and its no secret better guitars are made from better wood. These tops not only look great but they are stiff and strong and finely grained. This allows them to be cut just that tiny bit thinner, which lets them dance a little more and produce a lot more vibration, and ultimately a richer tone.

All of the components are made of natural materials such as mother of pearl and abalone inlays, real bone saddles and nuts and rosewood appointments.

SYS650 dual pickup
The Alvarez SYS650 was designed by B-BAND and is a dual pickup system incorporating one under saddle pickup and a transducer pickup placed under the soundboard. Either pickup can be selected or one can blend between the two to fine tune the response for lead, finger-picking or rhythm work. The system also has a fully chromatic, precision tuner with backlit LCD screen, 3-bands of rotary EQ, and a notch control that can be used to attenuate feedback or to shape the sound.

Comments about Alvarez Artist Series AC65HCE Classical Hybrid Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I started on classicals in the 60's folk movement, then moved to steel strings. But I always missed the rich mellow sounds of the classicals. I'm primarily a finger-style player, although I use finger picks on my 12-strings, but a flat pick becomes a tiddly wink in my hands, so the nylon strings are more comfortable for me. However, muscle memory is a powerful thing, and switching from a 45 mm neck on my D-28 to the Yamaha 51 mm neck was cumberson. The 48 mm neck on this guitar is a great compromise. Also, the Savarez strings, while difficult to keep in tune, bring out the full sound, from the bass to the trebles. A good choice by Alvarez. The neck plays well all the way up (I found myself actually utilizing the cut-away, something I'd never done). I have not experimented much with the onboard electronics, since my typical audience is just myself. But when I have amped it, I've noticed that, even when adjusted fully to the under-bridge transducer, it still picks up a lot of string/fingering sound, something less noticeable when I amp the D-28. I wouldn't trade my Martins for anything, but there are certain songs in the genre that I play that just sound better with the mellow tones of the nylons strings.

    alvarez ac65hce classical hybrid

Comments about Alvarez Artist Series AC65HCE Classical Hybrid Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

perfect crossover in the price range. wanted to have something for the beach, car and backyard. wanted a nylon and never was crazy about traditional classical or flamenco the neck on those were always too flat and wide. this baby easily if not beats alhambra's 3 series
very nicely done for the price. solid cedar top not AAA grade but very nice top, built in pickup not a necessary for me but nice having the built in tuner. fine finished tuner knobs add to its class. Comfortable neck easy to barre don't quite think it's 45mm more like 48mm there's been confusion on this aspect across the web, classical but comfortable for a steel string player, this option was a huge deciding factor for me.
not a high end guitar though that isn't what i was looking for exceptionally nice asian import, smooth tipped fret endings, finish is smooth, neck is straight and comfortable, no complaints with the overall product
always thought of owning an alvarez and the artist series was a score
