OVERVIEW

An affordable guitar with a hand-selected solid spruce top, mahogany back and sides, and B-BAND electronics.

The Alvarez Artist Series AG60CE Acoustic-Electric Guitar is a Grand Auditorium, which has similar dimensions to the dreadnought, but a narrower waist helping to pronounce the treble notes a little more. Great for fingerpicking and strumming, the GA is an all-around type. This model is fitted with the SYS550 blend system with tuner. The AG60CE is a member of the Alvarez Artist '60 Series. Alvarez was careful to get the construction just right to allow this series to sing, and deliver a player experience that's exceptional for a mid-price instrument.

The Artist Series AG60CE is a "solid top" which refers to the soundboard of an acoustic guitar being made of solid wood, rather than being laminated. However, just because the top is solid, it doesn't necessarily mean the sound automatically benefits from this feature. The tone of the instrument only improves significantly when the whole guitar is built correctly to really release the energy a solid soundboard can generate. The Artist Series is built to do exactly this.

This model is designed to get the best out if its components, and for them to work together to produce a tone and player experience, rarely found in affordable instruments.

The sound is warm, open and powerful, and both the treble and bass registers are clearly present and balanced in relation to each other. These guitars feel right and are exciting to play and responsive.

The solid ‘A' grade Sitka spruce tops are hand-selected from quarter-sawn wood. This ensures consistent quality, and its no secret better guitars are made from better wood. These tops not only look great but they are stiff and strong and finely grained. This allows them to be cut just that tiny bit thinner, which lets them dance a little more and produce a lot more vibration, and ultimately a richer tone.

All of the components are made of natural materials such as mother of pearl and abalone inlays, real bone saddles and nuts and rosewood appointments.

SYS550 EQ and pickup
The SYS550 designed by B-BAND is a pro-level EQ and pickup that reproduces the sound of the guitar very closely with great clarity. B-BAND use a patented under saddle electret film pickup which eliminates synthetic or processed sounds often heard with piezo or other styles of pickup. The result is a very true, acoustic sound. SYS550 also has an accurate, backlit chromatic digital tuner.

Gig bag or case sold separately.

I was impressed by the brightness of the high and resonance of the bass.. still looking for any significant blemish. guitar (open box) was in great condition. made minor action adjustments. a great guitar that happens to be a great value as well.

Comments about Alvarez Artist Series AG60CE Grand Auditorium Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar as a "Stupid Deal of the Hour."'first the good, it looks good, fretted rather easily, the pickup system sounds good. Better than a straight piezo pickup system. It has a 1/4" output and a LZ output, not seen on a lot of high end guitars. The guitar plays easy, however the neck seem wider than its 1 3/4" width. Build quality seems good but the sound, unamplified, doesn't ring out as well as it could. Amplified, the guitar has a nice rich full sound to it. One drawback is the pickup preamp is not very hot. One has to run the preamp wide open to get any volume.i plan on taking this guitar and my Fishman loudbox camping this year and planning to "Kun bi ya" the heck out of it around the campfire. Overall, it's a nice guitar. Mine was a restock, maybe a new guitar would perform better. I think Alverez might do well to rethink their specs on this line. Shave the neck to 1 11/16" width, use a hotter preamp system, work on getting a nice ring from the guitar unamplified and they would have a real winner. Not bad for a home player or a backup on a job. I did plug it into my fender DRRI and it sounded good. The pickup and preamp sound really good, however, you have to run wide open to get sound. It's not a bad guitar. In fact, it's a nice guitar for the price point.

Comments about Alvarez Artist Series AG60CE Grand Auditorium Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Even though advertised as including gig bag, instrument arrived without gig bag.

Poor fit and finish on neck, back and sides of guitar. Advertised as "gloss finish," the customer service representative told me matter-of-factly that this guitar has a natural, matte finish. That would not bother me, except for the fact that the "matte" finish feels more like "unfinished"- it is very rough, with large bumps underneath that look like sawdust trapped in the finish. This is all over the sides, back, and the neck/fingerboard where the neck joins the body. These are not random rough patches; this seems almost like it was a feature.

There are tearouts in the wood where the side pieces are joined together. The neck joint has a gap between the heel and the body. The finish at the neck joint appears to be cracked underneath the surface.

I have another Alvarez Artist Series guitar (ABT60); the fit and finish on that instrument is perfect. I was trusting that another guitar of the same line would share that quality. Sadly, it does not.

The customer service rep seemed unperturbed by this information, and asked me "so, what do you want to do about it?"

Given the option of returning the guitar at my own expense, I was informed that if I wanted a refund, that would be honored, minus their original shipping cost. That would mean I would be out too much money. I could also exchange it for another product of similar price, or apply the credit towards a more expensive.

For what a return would cost me, I may just keep it and try selling it locally on CL. I will not be buying any more instruments over the internet, it's too easy to get burned like this.

Comments about Alvarez Artist Series AG60CE Grand Auditorium Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Inexpensive, nice action, easy to play, OK to good sound, nice looking. Not an expensive sound, but for the money GREAT! I am a sound-man/roadie, not a guitar player. I have been playing off and on for 30 plus years, but am still not any good. I wish I had had the internet when I was 18. I have played expensive and junk guitars being around real musicians so long. I think this guitar plays well and sounds good. Once again, if you are starting out and have limited funds buy this, if you can afford an expensive martin or expensive taylor (I am partial to the taylor feel) then do that by all means. I would recommend this to a friend because all my friends are poor like me. If you are rich and looking for a friend that loves to lug expensive equipment for you let me know.

Comments about Alvarez Artist Series AG60CE Grand Auditorium Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Awesome guitar right out of the box. I have been playing guitar for 20 years plus, electric guitars only. Used to gig back in the day. Never purchased an an acoustic guitar before, so I thought I would go with a USA made handcrafted guitar that I could plug in to my Marshall amp and run some effects with it to see what happens. This guitar sounds great acoustically and also sounds cool plugged in. You can make several tonal adjustments on the guitar itself with the EQ and dual pickup system, not to mention running your favorite effects. Can't go wrong with this model. If you are like me, not wanting to spend thousands on an acoustic guitar, but wants to own a solid, good brand at an affordable price, give it a go. ROCK ON!!

Comments about Alvarez Artist Series AG60CE Grand Auditorium Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I ordered on Thursday night, recieved Tuesday with the free shipping. Thanks! I have a 1979 model upper end Alverez with factory pick up at the base of the neck and fairly rare. I have loved this gutiar but finally wanted an acoustic that sounds like an acoustic in stead of an electric when plugged in. Only complaint out of box, the stock string noise when moving fingers up and down the board. I replaced with medium light Elixer exp coated, and became impressed. I wanted a wider neck as this for finger picking. Unplugged, I cant ask for more. Plugged in, it sounds good, after I fiddled with the two pickup balancing and equalizer. Nice touch on the tuner cuting out the amp when tuning! When strumming or chording and playing with pick, all sounds balanced. When classical finger picking the lighter strings are a bit overwhelmed by the heaveier strings, but can be compensated by changing the two pickup balance. I am not familiar the regular cord plug, and the microphone plug right next to it. Does this plug in to a p.a. system? Does it use phantom 48 volt power or standard? There is no book that came with the electronics and I havent found it yet on the web site.. My friends are impressed, giving new gutiar fever to one. This alverze is an improvement in some ways over the first Alverez in tone quality, electronics and beauty. The 79 had a quicker thinner faster neck rivaling any qutiar I have ever played and I have played and owned quite a few.. But then, this one sounds and plays finger style like I want, and sounds acoustic.

Comments about Alvarez Artist Series AG60CE Grand Auditorium Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I usually don't write reviews for products, but considering how little reviews there are for this guitar I figured to give it a go. Been playing guitar for just shy of 10 years, haven't really been an acoustic player but to my ears this guitar is well rounded. its got a good mid range punch, but it is very balanced. it does seem a little harsh in tone when compared to my buddys Yamaha dreadnaught's warm tone, it may be just because the strings haven't been broken in or the guitar itself hasn't been broken in. though they are completely different guitars. it did need a little truss rod set up out of the box to reduce some string rattle but after that its playing like a champ.

the fretboard could be a little bit smoother but for the price of this guitar I cannot complain. the wide neck makes fretting chords and fingerpicking a breeze.

overall this is a great guitar with great value.

Thinking about purchasing a second one with rosewood back and sides.
Fits like a glove very comfortable to hold sitting or standing. Been playing over 30 years love this guitar.

I owned a Washburn and currently have a Fender Sonoran But this Alvarez has it beat. Comfort, sound and playability.
