OVERVIEW

Special cutaway for great upper fret access, eSonic2 preamp, made just right for lefties.

The Epiphone EJ-200SCE Left-Handed pushes the "King of the Flat Tops" into the future with a spectacular cutaway for total upper fret access plus the eSonic2 preamp system. Originally introduced in 1937, the J-200 style set a standard for guitar excellence that others have been trying to match ever since. Today-over 70 years later-the legacy of the "King of the Flat Tops" lives on in Epiphone's EJ 200SCE, which gives lefties a chance to enjoy how right this guitar sounds both plugged and unplugged.

The EJ-200 style is simply the world's most famous acoustic guitar, known equally for its majestic look and focused, complex sound. When the EJ-200 was first introduced, it immediately filled a need for a deeper, more balanced and powerful acoustic instrument that could project over stage and radio. The J-200 was a radical new design, bigger and bolder than any previous guitar, capable of projecting well beyond that of any other acoustic on the market-a fact that still holds true today with the EJ-200SCE.

Some of the greatest rhythm guitarists and singers of the last century made the J-200 their primary acoustic instrument on stage (and for record covers, too) including Don Everly, Bob Dylan, Robbie Robertson, Emmylou Harris, Elvis Presley, Gram Parsons, Buddy Holly, and Pete Townshend. The EJ-200SCE gives you everything great from this iconic and historic guitar without the headaches or the price tag of an original plus a modern pickup system so you can be heard anywhere.

Like all Epiphone instruments, the EJ-200SCE is covered by Epiphone's Limited Lifetime Warranty and the Gibson Family of Instrument's 24/7/365 customer service. Pick up an EJ-200SCE today and become a believer in the King of the Flattops!

This is one of the most beautiful guitars I have ever seen and now own. Several years ago I saw Alex Lifeson of Rush play the Gibson SJ Model, and I thought, what a pretty guitar. But then I went to the Guitar center several months later, and I got to play it. Not only was it visually stunning, but the sound that projected from the instrument was insane! However, I don't have 4k + for a guitar, but it sure was cool to play. Years down the road I saw the cutaway version of an EPI, but sadly they didn't have it in a left handed model. (It's so frustrating to be a left-handed player!! ) I kept looking and looking for EPI to put one out on the left hand side, and I had confidence they would make a good sounding guitar for the money. I have a Les Paul EPI that I love and would never give away, because of the way it plays and how dependable and good looking it is. Well, come Labor day, I decided to go on line and see what Musicians Friend had for sale. There it was! A left-handed EJ-200 (Blonde) with the Preamp built in. I couldn't believe it! I immediately called and ordered it with it's matching case, which is pretty nice and the guitar fits inside it like a glove. The Guitar was exactly was what I thought it would be and more. Of course Gibson uses some prettier woods, but come on....an Epi at a tenth of the cost. It is incredible to look at, and to play. It has an amazing sound to it, both plugged in or not. The deep projection of the guitar is beautiful to listen to, and the playability is amazing. The action almost feels like my Les Paul, and the neck has a nice shape making it easy to play bar chords without making you hand tired. Since the EPI is set up in the U.S. they do a great job doing so.. There is nothing that I would need to have adjusted. My only recommendation is to put on a set of Elixir strings that will not only make the guitar sound great, but they make it even easier to play the guitar and the strings last forever!! The Grover tuner's are extremely accurate and they stay in tune. I haven't had a chance to play around too much with the different settings on the preamp to hear the difference of the pick ups. I just kept the slider in the middle so that both pickups were active. The Tuner is fairly accurate and helpful when you need to do a quick tune up in a loud enviroment. All in all, the Guitar is everything that I could ever want in a guitar. The quality that was put into place while this guitar was being made was excellent. I haven't found any blemishes or nicks. Finally unless you are a professional musician, or you have the money to be a serious collector, then I really don't think you need to plunk down 4k on a Gibson (that has been getting a bad rap for quality issues) when you can have a beautiful guitar for a tenth of the price. I hope your experience is good as mine has been with this fine instrument.

Returned first one due to intonation and action being way off. Notes got more flat as went up the neck until being substantially flat at 14th fret. Bad enough to be unplayable at the higher frets. Action was 2/64 higher than Epiphone's spec (per manual that came with guitar). Exchanged and second one had same intonation problem although the action was better. Spoke to an authorized Gibson/Epi repair shop and they shared that the quality on this guitar is inconsistent in their experience. Might have to go through several guitars befor finding a "gem." Disappointing as I really loved the look and feel of this model. Returned for refund as I was not willing to keep exchanging with all the shipping hastle.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition EJ-200SCE Left-Handed Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I ordered this June 8 and it came to me today, shipped immediately after Epiphone released it. It's a very beautiful guitar, extremely well made. There were many complaints online about the right-handed ones having excessive fret buzz and needing extensive work before they were able to be played, but mine was ready right out of the box. There's no buzz anywhere on the neck and the tone is loud, even, and pronounced.

Another complaint I saw online was that people said these guitars were too quiet for their size. My brother plays an older right-handed version that has no electronics and a laminate top and mine blows it out of the water when it's unplugged. The solid top definitely pumps up the volume on this guitar.

The one negative was that the Nanomag had extremely low output when I tried it, but I haven't had the chance to mess with all the settings so it may just be my inexperience with the system.

Overall it looks great, sounds even better and is really a lot of fun to play.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition EJ-200SCE Left-Handed Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This is a great guitar for the money...and its available in lefty. It is frustrating trying to find a quality lefty built guitar...it is either entry-level plywood, turn a right-handed guitar upside down, or order a custom shop..$$$$. The build quality is excellent, the finish is perfect...it sounds good through an amp or "unplugged". I do plan to have it set up to get the string height down a little, but it is very playable out o the box.

I would like to have a left-handed ej-200 without the cutaway, but this is a very good option. Fingers are crossed that they will come out with one soon...should be easier to build than the cutaway version. Good job Epiphone!

When Epiphone says "limited edition" they mean it so buy this lefty before they discontinue it. I've owned this guitar for two months. A beautiful guitar with a big sound either acoustic or with pickups. I'm a pro Blues piano player/singer & gig 2-4 times a week & sometimes play guitar. I own several acoustics & electrics but this has become my go to guitar. It has a very slim profile neck which is perfect for me. Some praise the stock strings but I swiched them out immediately. A tusk bridge & nut & a pro setup makes this guitar really sing. Read the right handed reviews for the EJ-200CE for more info but I say buy it before it's gone.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition EJ-200SCE Left-Handed Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

The EJ-200SCE Left-Handed Acoustic-Electric Guitar is a lot of guitar for the price. It's not exactly the Gibson sound (I have a Gibson J-100) But it does sound great. It have a solid top - some models do not- this one does. I really like the pick-ups and controls - gives a lot of choices in sound dynamics, and with 2 output jacks there are amp and recording possibilities. The action was a little high out of the box, but with a proper set-up (neck adjusted, saddle lowered), it plays very nice now. Lastly it is a very beautiful guitar. The paint/finish looks beautiful - but it's not the nitrocelluose materials used on Gibsons. (Beautiful, but probably limits the sound somewhat) There was a ding/paint crack on the lower bout - not noticable unless turned in the proper light. I really like the guitar, the ding was not enough for me to return it, but it did show the brittle "plastic like" finish that it used on guitars in this price range. For the price- I don't think there is anything out there that is a better value, and for a lefty this is about as good as it gets!
