Epiphone

An excellent choice for aspiring guitarists to work on their chops without killing their bank account.

The easy-to-afford dreadnought Epiphone PR-150 is the perfect instrument to get started on. It has classic looks, great tone, and is made to be road tough. Like all worthy acoustic guitars, it begins and ends with tonewoods, and the PR-150 Epiphone chose a select spruce top and mahogany body for a classic sound that's balanced, clear, and will only get better with age and lots of playing. The rosewood bridge and synthetic bone saddle are a perfect match for the resonant profile of the select spruce top. The vintage-style soundhole is supported by a tortoiseshell-style pickguard with the '60s era "E" logo. The SlipTaper 25.5" scale mahogany neck has a rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays, a 12" radius, a 1.68" nut, premium die-cast 14:1 tuners, and the classic '60s era Sloped Dovewing headstock. The Epiphone’s all-nickel hardware will last as long as you play the guitar and the PR-150 comes in two color finishes, Natural (NA) and Vintage Sunburst (VS). Choose the finish you want in the drop down menu above.

Check the drop-down menu to the right to select colors and/or other options.

This was my second purchase from Musician's Friend and I continue to be impressed with the quality, price and condition of their products. My Epiphone PR-150 (Vintage Sunburst) sounds as great as it looks...and it looks AWESOME! Holds tune after lengthy jammin', excellent craftsmanship and the finishing detail is what you would expect from a much more expensive guitar. I hesitated to get the Sunburst finish, now it is one of the things I like best about it. It's so easy to play and sounds so good it actually inspires me to practice! Great right out of the box. My brother suggested some high quality strings, but I can't imagine it sounding better. Quite a score for [$]

Purchased this guitar from MF on a recommendation from phone rep. Guitar arrived and when I brought it in for a setup, the tech told me the frets from 9 on down were too high and strings buzzed down there. I was told that it wasn't stored properly and the fretboard was dried and the frets were popping up. MF was very good about doing an advance exchange, sending a n/c return label as well, and sent out a replacement same day with next day delivery at no extra charge. The replacement did indeed arrive the next day. However, this one was even worse than the first one. The fretboard was so dry that it was turning white. The frets were again too high in the same places and there was a lot of string buzz. The strings had dust and corrosion spots on them even though this appeared to be a brand new item. Again, bad storage. The MF rep and I decided that it was time to give up on the Epiphone and go with a Fender DG-60 instead. Again MF was very good about issuing a return label but sent the Fender by regular 3 day shipping. And I had to hassle returning two defective guitars. But UPS made that relatively easy.

Comments about Epiphone PR-150 Acoustic Guitar:

I have to say first that Musicians Friend is great to work with. I tried 2 different guitars and both of them never should have made it past quality control for Epiphone. Most of the issues were cosmetic and set up issues but for the guitar to wear the sticker personally set up by Epiphone it does not speak well fro their quality control and their packing department. For the money it could be a great little guitar if Epiphone would step up their quality in their quality control department

Comments about Epiphone PR-150 Acoustic Guitar:

I wanted an inexpensive guitar to just play around on the porch with. Read reviews about fret problems on this guitar, but assumed they did not know how to adjust. The guitar arrived with dust on the fret board and very dry. Possibly a storage problem, but the same problem others had. Could not get the fret buzz out and the third fret was just too high (try to play an F# on the 1st string and get a G note). Either this is a recurring problem with this guitar, or I got the guitar that others returned to MF. I have been a very good customer of MF (bought 3 quality guitars and a ukulele in the last year and a half before this one) and this was the first problem, but I was not happy getting a guitar with the same problems others have had. I was disappointed with MF for the first time in a long relationship. Don't buy this guitar!

Comments about Epiphone PR-150 Acoustic Guitar:

My son gave me the same model years ago and it's a great acoustic guitar.
When I needed another one to keep at my daughter's house so I didn't have to ship it back and forth it seemed like a no-brainer. But this guitar is noticeably of lower quality.
It seems like everything about it: wood, finish, sound, strings, are all cheaper.
Some of the tuning machines are mushy and don't hold.

If i could have gotten the same quality acoustic that the model was years ago at a reasonably higher cost I would have brought it.

Comments about Epiphone PR-150 Acoustic Guitar:

I bought this guitar and it arrived well packaged and timely. The guitar was beautiful but had very bad fret buzz around the 11-13th frets. I contacted musicians friend and had a replacement sent out that same day. When I received the replacement, the packaging was a little "roughed up" but the guitar was okay. This replacement has a small amount of fret buzz again around the 13th fret but still plays nice everywhere else and holds a tune nicely. I will have a pro look at doing a fret dress to make this guitar perfect.

Comments about Epiphone PR-150 Acoustic Guitar:

We selected this guitar at the recommendation of the customer service rep after our first choice was on backorder. We were looking for a beginner guitar at a reasonable price. Upon delivery, the guitar was completely unplayable. The strings were sitting too low and it made a terrible buzzing sound. We took it into a local guitar shop. She found the the neck was bent back and was very dried out, likely due to poor storage. After a set up, we were able to get it in working condition, but she recommended keeping it in a humid environment for continued improvement in how the instrument was responding. It's a nice looking guitar and a good price point for a novice playing around on it for fun. However, based on the other comments it is obvious that MF needs to take note of the storage conditions of their instruments because it appears this is a common problem.

This is a nice instrument so I bought 2 for my granddaughter to learn on and me to teach and play with her. Together I think we can make some good music and inspire her to get into singing as well.
