A worn finish and tweaked tone controls give it distinction.

Since its introduction almost 20 years ago, The Special-II has been a favorite of countless musicians with its combination of classic Les Paul features, great tone and affordability. Now, Epiphone puts a new twist on this classic with the Special-II GT. Like the Special-II, this is a full-on, in- your-face rockin' machine with all the same features (and more!) that you've come to expect from Epiphone.
As with all Epiphones, the Special II GT comes with our Limited Lifetime Warranty and Gibson’s 24/7/365 Customer Service. Wrap it all up in a thin "worn" vintage style black color finish with a price tag that any guitarist can afford and you've got an Epiphone classic made just for you.

When I had barely turned 16, I had decided I wanted to get into guitar (late start, I know), and I looked everywhere for a guitar that I would be able to use for the genre of music I liked (which would be heavy music in drop D). This guitar stood out to me because of its all black finish and comfortable feel. After feeling a few other guitars and the wallet in my pocket, I decided this would be the one I could get. I was instantly surprised of the quality that this guitar had, I had other friends who bought cheap guitars and they sounded poor. Having a quality guitar is definitely something that can keep someone inspired, and this guitar does the job. I ran this guitar through a Line 6 Spider IV 15 Watt, and althought it is a lower-end model amp, it sounded great. I've had this guitar for a year now and the neck pickup has gone out, but it does not concern me much because I only really use the bridge pickup. Since purchase of this guitar, I've also gotten an Ibanez RG350DX with a blocked bridge and custom pickups (a Seymour Duncan SH-13 for the bridge), and I must say that the Epiphone definitely competes with my Ibanez. The body is comfortable and overall it is a good feeling guitar that would make a beginner feel like they're in complete control.

The les paul gt is a solid player, it sounds good for the price. Also the acoustic sound it produces is quite good, however, my frets are kind of worn out now, so it doesn't sound too good anymore. (I am not going to talk about the pros anymore, because there are plenty of reviews that focus on those). Now for the bad. The body of the guitar is incredibly flat and blocky. There is no tapering, or smoothing around the edges of the guitar. Because of this, when you are playing, the edge of the guitar is constantly jabbing your rib with its sharp edge. It also shows how poor the craftsmanship is on the guitar. I'd say that 99% of the guitar was made and assembled by robots. the guitar is also quite heavy adding to the discomfort. If your going to buy this guitar just be aware that the body is completely 2 dimensional with no concave or anything, also know that the guitar is rather heavy.

Comments about Epiphone Special-II GT Electric Guitar:

I am a drummer and along with my HCS Cymbal Pack, I got this Les Paul Special II GT for Christmas. I got it with the gig bag, a Epiphone/Gibson Player Pack (Picks, Extra Cables, Wall Mount) and a 15-G amp. The amp is great, but the effects are shaky so I recommend to get a pedal (Acoustic, Olde Clean, OverDosed, British Invasion, Aqua Mix [Which is Aqua Chorus]) The guitar is easy tuning, stays tuned and has a good tone. Great for vamping and other sessions. I would recommend a 150-G Amp, if you didn't get the player pack.

This is my first guitar ever and I'm proud to own it. Sounds great and looks beautiful.
Definitely recommended for beginners. I use it for learning and practicing but I bet it would sound great on a live you.

Comments about Epiphone Special-II GT Electric Guitar:

I got the Special 2 GT as a beginner guitar two years ago and is still a great guitar for someone of that skill level. When i first got it, things like the killswitch and tremolo looked like really great and useful attachments to the guitar. But really the killswitch and tremolo feel like last minute additions to what should have just been a black on black special 2. The tremolo is quite bad and virtually useless considering your guitar is taken out of tune instantly. But its a very playable guitar and for those that like black, otherwise i recommend saving an extra 30 dollars and just getting the les paul special 2.

Comments about Epiphone Special-II GT Electric Guitar:

I wanted to learn how to play. I've had lots of guitars but never stuck with it. Then I bought this guitar and it had great playing action, the style was nice, brings fun to playing. I definitely recommend it to beginners. I learned a lot. But when I got it, the tone knob and a couple other things were loose. The finish doesn't last long and it doesn't stay in tune very well. All in all, I don't regret buying it.

well considering that when my new guitar arrived the pick guard fell off and it had a hole in the back of the body that you could fit a pencil eraser into it was o.k.

      K.A.A.

Comments about Epiphone Special-II GT Electric Guitar:

Three words describe-Kick Azz Axe. Gibson quality through and through. Had to set mine up, fret action was way to high OTB, but once done, found it to be super when needing to double up on rythm and lead. His Majesty, James Hetfield, could play it without compromise. Personally, I use it in our Metallica sets to cover 'Nothing Else Matters' and 'Sandman'. Tends to bring out originality and is definately NOT for the faint-of-heart.

Comments about Epiphone Special-II GT Electric Guitar:

I got this guitar for the holidays and I'm specially amazed with it. It has a great sound, perfect tuning and a great feel. The trem is a bit loosy but it's no big deal, and changing the strings was a pain, but that's neither the end of the world. I highly recommend this guitar for any style except clean sounds.
