I've been a Stratocaster owner and player for over 30 years! This guitar arrived via UPS in a timely manner undamaged. According to the serial number, this guitar is a year 2013 model. I always expect that a guitar should be setup properly and ready to go right out of the box, and the setup of this guitar was good out of the box, even though I still performed my own set up to meet my comfort level of playing. I received the Olympic White model with the maple fret board model and I love it! I happen to own a few USA Fender Stratocasters dating from 1975 through 2013 including this recent acquisition and some of the specs have changed over the years within the USA Standard models. What really stands out on this current generation of Stratocasters is the Custom Shop Fat 50 pickups. The Fat 50's are very good pickups. Due to the fact that I play multiple styles of music from Jazz, Blues, Funk, Rock and R&B, the Fat 50 pickups have good presence in the mid and high tonal ranges, which allows me to stay on the top of the mix for solos and allows good presence and resolution for rhythm guitar playing while playing a supportive role in the band when I need to stay within the mix. Being that I love to play jazz, I found that the Custom Shop Fat 50 pickups give decent roll off of the highs with the tone select switch in the neck position to give me the warmer jazz tones that I like. I would prefer even a greater degree of roll off of the highs as these pickups have quite a bit of brightness, particularly with the maple fret board, but the tone is good enough for me to get the job done. The Pro Series hard shell case that comes with the guitar, is not as good of quality as the Fender cases that were made in the 60's 70's 80's or 90's, but I do like the fact that case is a tradition style Fender case in comparison to the over sized SKB that was included in the previous USA Standard model. Overall, I feel that this is a great guitar and I prefer the overall sound on this current model compared to the standard pickups in the previous Standard model that date around the years 2005 through 2010. Again....I love it! Great guitar!

I've been considering buying one of these for years. Finally broke down and ordered one from MF. First of all, I had them do a price match with the smile on the box people. Saved a couple hundred, but they sent me a used guitar. I didn't get a used guitar price on it, so that wasn't cool. When I first opened it up the case was very nice and high quality. When I first saw the guitar it was beautiful. I love the Sienna Sunburst finish. It seemed to be very well made and surprisingly light. I don't like the fact that I ordered a maple neck/fret board and they put a finish on the fret side. Why would they do that? The best guitar I've ever played has a solid maple neck/fret board and it is completely unfinished other than oiled. I did not like the way your hand kinda sticks to it. The tone of this guitar is good. Very bright and bluesy with good cleans through mild crunch. But that's about all it's good for. Anything over mild gain and it just doesn't sound good. That is through a good tube amp too. The main problem I have with this guitar is that no matter what I do, it just won't stay in tune. Very subtle vibrato on the tremo, and you have to stop and retune. That drives me nuts and shouldn't be an issue on a guitar that costs, well, you know what they charge for one of these. Personally, I don't see what is so great about a Strat. I've played more versatile, better guitars for half the price. If you mainly play blues or country, this is a great guitar for you, as long as you don't touch the tremolo bar. I'm sending this one back.

Comments about Fender American Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

2012 Olympic-White Maple board. This Strat is a hugh improvment over the past Series/Standard production US Strats. The thick neck profile and addition of the Fat-50's pick-ups put this Strat in a different league. I'm impressed I was wondering if Fender was gonna get the Strat together or we would have to keep building our own 50-60 repos. I bought it in person so I played a few. The weights were all consistant and QC. Maybe 1/2lb variance from one to another. Most around the 7-1/2 range. Great transference of body/neck tone. Excellent nuance with Volume and Tone with the Fat-50's in all positions. I have heard compliants about the new Copper fused block and I'm a Vintage Block fan. I am getting solid sustain from this Trem unit though. Fret work is superb. Fender must have hired a new QC inspector. I haven't seen fret-work this good in years. Some may not like the Fatter C but I love the SRV older Robert Cray 60-61 C Slab-Boards Fender used, this is somewhat a similiar feel, little thinner only with the TR adustment at the head instead of the heal. I'm impressed, way to go Fender. I guess we'll be seeing the Fat-50's around for some time. Many players I know were wondering "why" the Fat-50s were not used. Great work on this Stratocaster.

Comments about Fender American Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I have been looking for the ideal Stratocaster for a long time, and this 2013 model fits the bill. I thought I wanted a vintage reissue, but didn't like the curve of the fretboard radius, the small frets, or the lack of a tone control for the bridge pickup. I tried the Deluxe, and as nice as it is, the pickups weren't exactly the sound that I wanted, and I found that I was always messing with the S-1 switch to find that sound. Then I tried an American Standard with the new for 2012 custom shop Fat 50's pickups. At first I was shocked, and thought they sounded too much like a Telecaster (that is not a bad thing). But when I adjusted the tone controls and the Fender tube amp, they came to life. They have a sparkling, shimmering spank that completely won me over. The fretwork is perfection, and the neck is so smooth and comfortable with its rolled edges. The intonation and setup on mine is perfect. I had to adjust the tremolo claw when I put on heavier strings (10's), and was pleased to find that the tremolo block is metal, and not plastic like on my older deluxe model. This guitar has just about all the features and attributes that I personally like to find on a Stratocaster. Mine has the maple fretboard. I tried out a rosewood board model and liked it, but found that it had a slightly darker, woodier sound. That'e the thing about Strats, everyone is looking for something different, and Fender has offered up so many different permutations since 1954 that it makes the search for the perfect variation (for you) a daunting challenge. If you want an earthier, bluesier tone, you might not want this model.
Unfortunately, mine came with a small knot in the headstock on the side. I know that it is a natural wood product, but I feel that this particular piece of maple should have been rejected at the factory (at least to go on an American Standard). The other issue is that there are faint parallel lines (indentations) either in the wood or in the finish on the back of the guitar. You can feel them if you run your finger across them. For these reasons, I was going to return it for an exchange, but I just couldn't get myself to send it back. I was afraid that the replacement wouldn't sound quite as magical, or that the neck wouldn't be so perfect. We should buy our guitars for the feel and the sound, especially if they speak to you. Cosmetics are important, but in my opinion should take second place. This is one awesome Fender, and it has found a lifetime home with someone who is very fussy and trades guitars often!

Comments about Fender American Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

This guitar plays great... I have an older American standard from the 80's, with a rosewood neck, and I have to say that I like the newer neck better. However, the older one has better hardware on it. The new saddles are kind of cheesy, I think Fender needs to stop cutting corners, and focus on quality.

For the money, I think a Gibson SG is a better deal, and a much better guitar, but I already own 5 of them.

The stock pickups are nice, but kind of weak sounding unless you play clean all the time. It doesn't sound that good on the high gain channel of my Marshall DSL 2000. I ordered a set of Fender Hot noiseless Jeck Beck pickups to put into it... hopefully that will fatten it up a little.

The neck is great, it is very comfortable to play.

I wish they made the USA model with Arctic White finish... that is a much whiter white, but the wood they use on the Mexi strat necks is not as good, nor is the workmanship, I went to a local music store and compared them side by side.

If you like your mexi strat... good for you... don't complain about the economy.

I almost ordered a MIM for the Arctic White color, but I don't want a half-baked strat, that is "sort of ok" and "almost as good". I want the real thing. I don't own or play cheap instruments.

Guitar looks nice, dead pickup on all settings, have wanted a real Fender Strat for a long, long time. Finally spent over a grand from online vendor to get one and on the phone in less than 20 minutes for the return shipping label. Will never again buy a guitar that I can't put my hands on first. Way to go Fender, great quality control in California. And we complain about that equality of foreign guitars that cost 1/3 the price??? I know, go to a store and play before I buy. Lesson learned.

I purchase a 2012 Strat with the sunburst finish and the maple fretboard and couldn't be happier. The Fat 50's pups are a little beefier than other Strats I've played but provide a very full tone without losing the signature Fender sound. Good choice! Fit, finish and build quality rival a few custom shop guitars that I have. I found the trem to be a little mushy for my tastes, maybe not yours, so I added a 4th spring and adjusted the tension screw. Now it is perfect. Great job Fender!!!

Comments about Fender American Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

Oooh what a sweet strat tone! I played a few different guitars in this line and settled on the brightest sounding one(a black finish w/ the maple neck). I played this through a Backstar head with EL34s, through both channels. I play rock/jazz/blues and mainly stay in positions 1, 4, & 5 on the pickup selector switch.

Dirty Channel: The bridge pickup had grit and fullness, but still with that strat brightness without being too tinny(an issue with other strats I've had) - a little thin with the volume rolled back, but that's to be expected. Position 4 had that nice and full BFG/Nationwide sound to it. The neck p/u by itself is a beautiful thing. I love these Fat 50's pickups - they sound so sweet.

Clean Channel: position 4&5 are both bell-like and warm at the same time(an oxymoron, I know) and seem to cut through. At the time I demo'd this there was a band shooting a video 20' away at one point and even the clean channel sound was cutting through. I had that great Larry Carlton/Kid Charlemagne tone going on position 4. Very woody.

The neck is full and comfortable, but not too thick. Bending notes is easier than I'm used to and it actually through me off for a time. I usually prefer jumbo frets, but these are nice and full. The finish work is good too i.e. no cheese grater frets.

Overall, this is a great guitar. Go check one out.

This guitar carries the Fender name and tradition, and it certainly isn't cheap. It's the 5th Fender guitar I've bought (Mustang, Tele, 2 Strats, Squire Bass). For a guitar of this reputation and price, I expected a near-perfect product. Instead, the set-up was way off, the finish had flaws, and the frets needed filing. Also, the case is scuffed. I will be hesitant to mail-order a guitar again.

Comments about Fender American Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I also have an American Standard Tele but there were a number of sounds I just could not get with that. So, finally I decided to buy an American Standard Strat. I have not touched my Tele since. The Strat has the full rich sound that I was looking for, along with the trademark Strat quack that my Tele just could not provide. The action is fast, I had it set up for .10's. I believe it has improved my speed, and it sounds great with all my pedals through my Blues Jr. and my Deluxe Reverb. I waited too long for this beauty, but am glad I finally bought one. And an extra bonus is the fat 50's pups, they sound much better than the old pick ups on the Standard. As hard as I play and bend the strings, it always stays in tune. I was a bit nervous about buying a guitar online, but it was quickly shipped to my house without a nick. I went for the charcoal gray metallic color, and am glad I did. I thought about black, but this one is a killer color. I will never need to buy another guitar, this one is a keeper. Get one now.

I head about the 2012 Fender American Stratocaster coming out and being "different" from the 2011 model and decided to wait. I am very pleased I did wait!! The fat 50's pickups and overall "feel" of the 2012 is truly amazing! I wanted the jade metallic one with the maple neck as soon as I saw the pictures of it - and could only find one place online that had it in stock....HERE!! Two days later - it had arrived and couldnt get to my amp fast enough to try it. If you are thinking about purchasing one of these and are hesitating - STOP....no need to hesitate - the quality, fit and finish - and that amazing tone that comes with it will put you at ease! This one is definitely a keeper in my eyes!! The aged plastic pieces and upgraded electronics look and sound .....well...amazing!
The only flaw I could find on the guitar (and trust me I combed over it from top to bottom) was a bit of the chrome had a chip in it where the cord goes into the guitar. Definitely something I can live with - would probably happen anyways when plugging and unplugging the guitar. The paint is even and looks great when light hits the body (almost a silverish glow to the jade pearl metallic). The neck has a satin finish on the back and your hand just glides along when playing. The case that comes with the guitar is very well made (and the little goodies that Fender gives you with the case isn't bad either.....like the cable and polishing cloth and strap)!!
I have had a few Stratocasters in the past - and I must admit - this one outshines all of them that I have had! Fender really knocked this one out of the park when they made the 2012 American Strat!

Comments about Fender American Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

First off let me just say Musician's Friend had great customer service throughout this whole thing...Fender quality control should be ashamed. Some of the pieces of wood they attempted to use in conjunction with the Sienna Sunburst finish were appalling. I'm talking multiple knots on the front grain of the wood. If you're someone who likes that sort of thing then great but in my mind if I'm paying over 1000 for a guitar with a semi-transparent finish I expect them to use a decent piece of wood to accommodate a finish such as this. It took three tries (all of which MF footed the shipping bills for) until I finally received a guitar with no knots on any portion of the body.

In terms of playing the guitar is awesome minus some slight fret buzz which was corrected with my initial setup.

I highly suggest doing this one in person if you have a chance to. I'm really not picky in terms of only accepting some awesome looking wood grain, I just don't like knots. Had there been a MF close I would have went that route and I would highly suggest you do the same if you are going for a sunburst finish.

Comments about Fender American Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

My 2012 Fender American Standard Stratocaster came in Olympic White with a Maple Fretboard and a Gold Anodized Pickguard. I have been playing guitar for 34 years and know a thing or two about guitars. Simply put, this guitar is AMAZING!! Top shelf fit, finish, and hardware. The tone is outstanding. The Fat 50's Pickups are not replicas of pickups from 1950, rather a modern version that has tone, sustain, and harmonic overtones that are stunning. They are also very quiet for single coils. The vibrato bar system stays in tune all the time. I used "Big Bends Nut Sauce" when I changed the strings and no tuning issues at all. As a matter of fact, when I take the guitar out of the case it is spot on "in tune".

Comments about Fender American Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I bought this hoping it would be the answer to my tone quest. It was. It has the perfect tubey clean tone, nice semi-distorted crunch if you back the volume down, and sweet wailing distortion I crave when you play through a fuzz face. I love Jimi Hendrix and this does it all. The Fat 50's pickups were the selling point for me, over a previous model, and I am not disappointed. I think the vintage tint on the pickups and knobs would be enhanced with the oversized 70's headstock, but it still looks cool with the modern sized headstock. Other than that, this is a guitar I shall keep forever. This is not the guitar for all types of music (you know who you are) but you'd be surprised at what you can do with it. For me, it's perfection.

Comments about Fender American Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I have been playing for a long time. I have 14 guitars. I can tell you that this is a fantastic instrument worth every penny they charge for it. I have a fender Mexican stat that looks almost identical. That is where the similarities end. The American standard has a superior feel to it. It's kind of something that is hard to describe, but in my opinion well worth the money. The American also comes with a case where the Mexi doesn't. Don't get me wrong the mexi strat is a good instrument just different. The difference in quality, feel and sound, is very evident. So if your not sure if the American is worth the money in my opinion it defiantly is. Just cause they look the same don't mean they are.

Comments about Fender American Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

Did you ever have that one guitar that you really regretted selling? Mine was a '94 American Standard Strat. It was midnight blue with a maple fret board. I have a '98 American Deluxe with a rosewood board and vintage noiseless p'ups. It is a great guitar and sounds fantastic but it doesn't have that glassy sound of my old standard. Long story short I ordered the '12 standard from Musicians Friend. This new guitar has the tone of my old one and has improvements that make it play even better. One word. Wow!!! Better sustain and the neck is even more comfortable! Buy this guitar! You will not be disappointed.

This is a beautiful guitar in looks and sound. I have two other electrics, a Mexistrat and a Les Paul, and this sounds the best to me. My Mexistrat sounds faint and nasal in switch position 2, but this one sounds louder and fuller in 2. Bends are easier on the buffed maple than on my Mexi's rosewood fingerboard.

Comments about Fender American Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

Very, very disappointed in the craftsmanship of the American made fender standard stratocaster. Ordered 2 of them and sent both of them back. The first one , the neck pocket was toon big for the neck heel which resulted in about almost an eighth of an inch gap between the body and the neck.Sent it back.Musicians Friend talked me in to exchanging it for another thinking that is probably 1 in a100, so l did.The next one was the same problem except the neck was pulled over to the left of the body to hide the gap which totally missalined the whole guitar. Now the high e string is almost off of the fret board.Sent it back and got my money back and told them l would never order a guitar by maIL order again. I have bought Mexican made fender guitars that are way better craftsmanship Tha the American made fenders.Unless Musicians Friend gets all the American made rejects.

Comments about Fender American Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I purchased this in Ocean Blue after exploring and playing a variety of strats, les pauls, and teles, to include the classic vibes and Made in Mexo (MIM) models, as well as the china and indonesia models.

For one thing, if you're serious about your playing, don't even bother with anything other than the American Standard. The MIM is ideal for learning to customize, and the classic vibes feel like toys in comparison. I read all the reviews and tried everything out in person. You want the American made at a minimum for serious playing and performing.

I chose the maple fretboard, since it has a slightly brighter sound. The rosewood sounds darker and heavier, and it's a little harder to brighten a sound with pedals and effects.

I also chose the single coils (sss) vice the hss since I currently have humbuckers on my hollow body and prefer them on les pauls. I wanted a classic strat and sound, and this model more than delivered.

I personally play praise and worship music at our church, and this has allowed me to play songs with a Hillsong / U2 / Tomlin feel. I couldn't be happier, and will be keeping this guitar for life.

                        Happy shopping!
