This is a fantastic buy, and for the money you can't go wrong. A little more money in upgrades makes this superior to many MIA strats in my opinion. I've added an LSR roller nut, middle pickup, and an active midboost control which can be swept for different frequencies (like a wah, very Zappa esque). But the same stock sounds are all still there, and they're the ones I use most often. Coil tapping the neck pickup is one of the best tones I know. A previous review described the pickups as muddy, but if you have a good amp and know how to set an EQ, then you'll hear their true character- WARM. Rolling off the tone is very responsive and the entire range of the volume and tone pots are usable. If you're having trouble hearing the changes with a distortion or dirty amp, try using it clean and you'll hear the subtleties (too much clipping removes these dynamics in many cases). For either a modding platform, or for a great basic jam guitar, if you don't get a lemon you'll be happy!

Comments about Fender Blacktop Stratocaster HH with Maple Fretboard Electric Guitar:

I love this guitar. I love strats but I love to have some hum bucking sounds. This guitar gives you a great combination of raw hum bucking snarl but also some single coil tones as well. I'm really impressed with the stock pickups. They're hot but versatile if you play with the volume. I have the sonic blue with maple fretboard and have had it for about four years. I would buy another for sure.

Comments about Fender Blacktop Stratocaster HH with Maple Fretboard Electric Guitar:

Great quality, my second MIM. Only complaint is the sonic blue is a bit lighter than the non MIA sonic blue color. The other review of the pups being flat/muddy is accurate and I like that, they will get a bit jangly as well. Great guitar for the money.

Comments about Fender Blacktop Stratocaster HH with Maple Fretboard Electric Guitar:

I purchased a Blacktop Fender to give my American Deluxe Fender HSS a rest from the abuse of playing shows.
Initally, I was looking at a Standard Strat with the HSS configuration. That's when my problem was realized. The American Deluxe series comes with the S-1 switching system. I think the 's' stands for spoiled, because thats what an American Deluxe will do, spoil you rotten. Long story short, I was using all my pickups at once with my deluxe, something you can't achieve with a Standard Strat unless you mod it.
Then I read the specs on the Blacktop series and I was instantly sold. I had a hard time choosing which color, but I went with sonic blue/maple neck. Pictures do not capture the beauty, and while a lot of people don't like the mint green pick guard, it gives it a vintage appeal that works. Stage lighting really makes it pop as well. Nothing but compliments since I've received it.
If you are expecting vintage,single-coil strat tone, wrong choice. This strat is loud and beefy.
Granted with the coil tapping on positions 2 and 4 you can get a strat-ish sounding tone. I mainly play in position 3 using both humbuckers.
My only issue with this guitar is very minor.
The volume and tone pots have no sensitivity. You'll roll it back from 10, and it won't decrease in volume until 2. The tone knobs seem the same, but not as severe.
I have upgraded the tuning heads to locking heads and threw on some strap locks. Symptoms of being spoiled by my deluxe I guess.
Obviously there are a lot of comparisons that could be made between the two guitars. But with two upgrades, I was able to get the results I wanted. A great guitar that I can beat up and that will look cool while I'm doing it.

Comments about Fender Blacktop Stratocaster HH with Maple Fretboard Electric Guitar:

I picked this guitar up on a whim and hadn't even heard of the Blacktop range when I came across it. The guy I bought it off had hard tailed the bridge, stripped the paint from the body and replaced the pickguard so it has a couple of mods. However, this guitar has become my go to for jamming, recording and band rehearsals.

Having the 5 way switch with coil split really gives this guitar a wide range of tones that will suit just about any style of music. The band I play in covers everything from classic rock, jazz, country, pop and metal and my blacktop is happy with any genre. I play through either a Vox Valvetronix VTX120 or a Vox AC4TV and also use a LP Standard, Maton MS2000 DLX and Ibanez PAC311H.

This guitar really has the potential to surprise and would make a great first guitar or solid back up. Best mOney I've ever spent on music gear.

Comments about Fender Blacktop Stratocaster HH with Maple Fretboard Electric Guitar:

This Strat looks and feels great. I bought the black maple one and she sure is beautiful! It feels really smooth whenever I play it, unlike some other guitars I've had. (Although they were cheap knock off Strats) How a guitar feels when I play it is a deal-breaker for me. I also love the tone I get out of it. I play mostly rock music and I this guitar definitely does it's job. Don't know if it's meant for anything too heavy or hardcore, but it definitely suits my playing style. I think it's a quality guitar well worth the investment, but this is the first guitar I've had that is actually really good. Before this one, I always had really cheap electrics. Just thought ya'll should know.

Comments about Fender Blacktop Stratocaster HH with Maple Fretboard Electric Guitar:

It is a very well build guitar and it feels good. Smooth neck and I love the high glossy body. Sound is versatile and the humbucker at the bridge sounds like a PAF (Gibsonstyle)and its great (maybe the best bridgehumbucker on a Fender strat so far). The specs that Fender gave you is not right though. They say that the second position (from the neck) would be the outer coil of the neckhumbucker but it is really the outer neck and the outer bridge coils of both humbuckers together. That gives you a nice "out of fase" kind of sound but it is not a solitair singlecoilsound and that is a shame. I replaced the neckhumbucker by a Symour duncan Phat Cat p90 and I am very pleased with the result but it is not the way Fender should sell it this way.

Comments about Fender Blacktop Stratocaster HH with Maple Fretboard Electric Guitar:

The Fender Blacktop Strat is easily one of the finest Strats I have ever played. Shortly after the Blacktop Series was introduced, my brother got one in sonic blue and that finish is absolutely gorgeous. The mint green pickguard gives it a unique color combination as well. Anyway, this particular model has a polished fretboard and neck which, in my opinion, makes it seem as if it's a far more expensive Strat than it is. It also feels nicer than an unpolished fretboard and neck as I've played on plenty of other Strats and Teles alike. Not only does this Strat look great, but it sounds great too.

Despite the humbuckers in this Strat, it still sounds like a Strat. You can simply take it to new heights. You can easily go from playing blues to country to metal. Tone wise, there's something for everyone in this Strat.

In case you're stuck between the Blacktop Strat and the Blacktop Tele, I thought I'd add that the Tele version is great as well. However, the Blacktop Strat is more versatile than its Tele counterpart. Both look, feel and sound great but, to me, the Blacktop Strat is the better of the two.

Anyway, the Blacktop Strat is a wonderful instrument at a great price. I highly recommend this one.
