OVERVIEW

A modern twist on a highly popular semi-hollow Guild classic.

The Starfire IV ST puts a modern twist on a highly popular semi-hollow Guild classic. With its graceful double cutaway and thinline body, the original Starfire IV was prized by many guitarists from the mid-1960s onward for its incomparable tone and feel.

Premium features include an all-mahogany body, a solid maple center block, rosewood fingerboard, and Guild' hallmark mahogany neck with maple center seam. This model features a tune-o-matic bridge with a stopbar tailpiece for increased sustain and stability. The Starfire IV ST includes dual LB-1 Little Bucker pickups, replicas of Guild' original smaller size humbucking pickups. Includes hardshell case.

Comments about Guild Starfire IV ST Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I bought the green. Glad I did. Rare color. They are hard to get at present. I have a slew of guitars and basses. After receipt, all of them go straight to my luthier to dial in my specifications. I was blown away that this one is actually dialed in perfectly, and I am really picky about the feel and play of my guitars. Straight/fast neck, low action, no string buzz - not a flaw! Gorgeous finish, great tone and volume response, solid feel and these pickups are sweet! The 11's add a bit of acoustic warmth which is great both plugged and unplugged. This sweetheart is an absolute joy to pick up and play. Sounds great through both of my Fender and Vox tube amps. Plays well with pedals. My luthier will not see this one for some time.

Comments about Guild Starfire IV ST Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I recently got an Emerald Green Guild Starfire IV ST. It is a very well made instrument. I have always been attracted to Guild semis, since the late 60s. The pickup tone sits somewhere between a Gibson Classic '57 HB and a Gretsch Filtertron. The neck is very well finished. The frets are smooth. The color is beautiful. It's a pleasure to play.

Comments about Guild Starfire IV ST Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

Up to this point, my guitar collection has been all solid bodies. (four Strats, a Tele, Les Paul, SG and Firebird.

I've been craving a good semi-hollow. But the ES-335 is just too expensive for my tastes. The Epis, and Ibenez clones were too low-end. I was looking for something in between. This turned out to be the perfect choice.

First, the fit and finish was flawless. A beautiful cherry red with lovely grain showing. (Not quite as 'stripey' as the photo--much prettier, I think.) The binding was perfect. I couldn't find anything wrong with the finish or construction--not a single blemish anywhere.

Acoustically, it sounded lovely. Rich and clean. Plugging it into my Vox AC15, I fell in love. I found I could dial in everything from super clean chords to wonderful, nasty, dirty blues. (I remembered seeing Son Seals play one of these on the cover of Midnight Son, and I could recognize the tone.) Dialing it back, I could get warm BB-esque tones, and playing with the tone knob got me a pretty convincing Woman Tone.

As for the neck--I felt instantly at home with it.The 9.5 radius felt perfect, and the neck wasn't too thin or too thick.

This guitar is really an extraordinary value. Even the case is solid and well-made. At about 1/3 the price of the ES-335, it is incredibly impressive.

I would recommend having a look at one of these to anyone looking for that semi-hollow sound.

Comments about Guild Starfire IV ST Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I did a lot of research before purchasing this guitar and, it's first guitar I own from South Korea. I am not disappointed by any means. I bought the Emerald Green which I am glad I did. The guitar not only looks great but has amazing action. I had no need to set it up after receiving it. There is no string buzz, the tone is amazing and feels great to play. I'm playing through a Fender 68 Custom Twin Deluxe Reverb right now, the tones are warm and inviting but you can also get some amazing rocking sounds!!

Comments about Guild Starfire IV ST Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I honestly am blown away by this fine guitar, always wanted a Gibson ES-335, but with its exaggerated high cost makes it very hard.
What impresses me the most is the quality of craftsmanship for this price, It's so well built and its finishes are perfect and detailed, sounds amazing! i can get nice warm rounded clean and meaty, chimey, clear distortion. Volume and tone knobs are nice in design but could improve with a more firm sturdy material.
I own Fender, Gibson, Parker, PRS, Gretsch and I can say proudly, a owner of this awesome Guild Starfire IV in cherry red. I knew i was going to like it, but I received more than expected.
