Comments about Rogue RA-090 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I have been looking for an all mahogany guitar to complete my collection so when I saw this guitar I thought I would take a chance. What a great decision. It's well finished, easy to play, light weight and it has a full mellow sound with great intonation and no string buzz. It's the best priced all mahogany guitar out there. You won't be sorry!

Comments about Rogue RA-090 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

This is a nice addition to my acoustic guitar collection. I was looking for an all mahogany guitar and this one is a really great guitar. When buying lower priced guitars, it can be a gamble. Sometimes they are poor quality, and sometimes they are a nice surprise. This one is a nice surprise. It has a nice bold sound, a great tone, and it looks great as well. I only rated it a 4 as I had to adjust the action as it was a little high and replace the strings with 10 gauge as the strings that come with it are not very good - and that's common with most guitars I buy. A nice guitar, you will not be disappointed!

Comments about Rogue RA-090 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I had a black Rogue RA-100D for about 9 years before I accidentally cracked the neck on it - my own fault entirely. It served me well as a travel guitar for almost a decade, and I actually found it to be an enjoyable instrument to play. Once my RA-100D passed away, I immediately hopped on here and ordered a new Rogue without hesitation.

The RA-090 Mahogany is a fantastic looking instrument, and the wood grain of mine is even more beautiful and richly colored than the images here suggest. It has a very glossy top coat which complements the wood color and grain. The binding is a little bit blemished in some areas, but is MUCH better than that of my RA-100D, which was chipping away. It has a noticeably brighter tone than the spruce bodied RA-100D, and seems to project more volume. The fretboard is stained hardwood - not as hard as rosewood, but not so soft that the strings leave impressions in it. No stain comes off on my fingers at least. The rosette is a decal, as expected, but it looks good and I quite like the Celtic-ish design.

The tuners function well, and the nut and saddle, while plastic, are made of a much better material than the ones on my RA-100D were, which was far more brittle and chipped away under the pressure of the strings. This material feels more like TUSQ (I have a Seagul with a TUSQ nut and saddle for direct comparison). It may be beneficial to replace them with bone, but for an inexpensive guitar they are more than adequate. I recommend using graphite lube on the string grooves to decrease instances of tuning issues. This guitar does stay in tune fairly well, though.

Overall I'm entirely satisfied with this purchase and would buy another Rogue in a heartbeat, as I already did. I also own a Rogue bass and it's great as well. These are awesome beginner and travel instruments.

We cannot actually buy sound but every now and then we hit upon a delightful surprise and this guitar shocked a few of us as we tuned and checked it out before giving it to a novice. It not only looked good but honestly,it has a competetive sound and sustain, good action and will make a novice want to play more...Don't know if yours will be as good as mine but it will be well worth your investment

Comments about Rogue RA-090 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I am only recommending this IF you dont mind spending money on a tech setup or you can do a full setup yourself.
Taking into account what i paid for this as it was purchased on sale its ok. If you are familiar setting up guitars or know a tech or luthier that does then make a trip to them or plan on spending some time and money setting it up properly yourself and you will thank me later.
Mine arrived with a broken nut saddle way to high and a really weird smell. With a new bone nut and saddle and good tuners and proper setup it plays and sounds good.
Its for me playing around the house around 5 kids so i needed a beater that could take a beating. I got one with a straight neck and good frets. So i kept it even though musicians freind tried to get me to return it. The neck being correct made me keep it. Internally you can see the shortcuts taken. Also some overglue on neck joint area leaving a nice rough spot like someone tried to sand it off.
Hipshot 3x3 tuners with the UMP fit in the old tuner holes with no drilling so getting something that does npt break strings and are really good is a necessity They do cost about as much as the guitar however. I didnt buy mine at MF so i saved money elsewhere on those.
I use 12 or 13 gauge strings on this thing and they work well. Makes sounds boom off the guitar. It is no high end hog dred but as a campfire travel house beater guitar this serves me well after spending another chunk on top of the cost of the guitar in setup and upgrades that if not done the guitar from factory alone is not worth tuning or playing. Every guitar i have seen in 30 years needs a setup or some part of it changed for every player to make it a true player and this one is no exception.
Setup, few upgrades, boom, good playing good sounding guitar.
Straight out of the box...... you may hate it and send it back.

Sounds like a good solid-top dreadnought.

          • May not fare well with medium gauge strings.

Comments about Rogue RA-090 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

Sounds like a *really* good dreadnought. I've been wondering if it had a solid top, until I just saw the "laminated." No plywoody sound.
The strings are light gauge. I put on a set with 11 gauge 1st string, nice and bright but kind of loose. No need for a capo to play melodies brightly. Some sets start with 10 gauge, but that might be awful light.
I tried a12 gauge 1st string set; it's tight like medium gauge, but I wouldn't put medium gauge in there -- I don't know if it's meant to take it. This set is more recessed, but like a normal dreadnought, until you capo it 2nd fret. A very solid feel and sound from the wound strings.
The action for strings 1-4 is so low it's a wonder they don't buzz. 5-6 are higher, but a luthier could take them down to the others.
Harmonics and fretting at the 12th fret match.
It has a compensated bridge! And adjustable truss rod.
So, it's more than worth the price.
If you have huge fingers, then the narrowish neck might make you foul an adjacent open string when fretting - this might take some extra attention.

I am a beginner. I really like the look of this guitar. I give it 4 stars because the strings that it came with was not very good. I had to replace it with Martin strings.

Comments about Rogue RA-090 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I bought this guitar because I was looking for a camp guitar that I wouldn't mind getting dinged up. The fact that it was all laminated maple was an eye catcher too.

When I received this guitar I was astonished at how well the construction was on it. The action was spot on and the tone was wonderful with even mellow highs and lows. After changing the strings for the first time I noticed minor buzzing so I put a bone nut and saddle on it.

With the added bone nut and saddle this guitar is an absolute dream to play. It carries the tone of a 300 to 400$ acoustic at a fraction of the price. The tuning keys have held up and I have not noticed any sliping with the light gage strings I use.

I find myself grabbing this guitar often because it has an amazing playability and the tone is great! If you are willing to do a couple upgrades you will be extremely happy with what you get. Though on its own with no upgrades this is a killer guitar for the price.

I would strongly recommend this guitar to any beginner or anyone looking for a great travel buddy!

I bought this for my son's first guitar. He loved it so much! Two of his friends play guitar and told him what a nice first guitar this is. I didn't want him to have a junk musical instrument. The pictures do not do it justice! It is so pretty. A great first guitar.
