The features, quality, and sound of this guitar make it a real deal at this price.
I gave this a 10 simply because the features it has at this price point is pretty incredible in a quality instrument. This isn't some entry-level-quality guitar. Good sounding H-S-M pickups AND a useable locking trem at this price is enough, but coupled with the small size, light weight, neck-through construction is irresistable.

The neck is wonderful. It is considerably wider and flatter than I'm used to, but the frets are excellent, and well-dressed. The finish seems to be a fairly thick poly. There's no wood grain showing, but it will be a care-free and durable finish.

The electronics are solid, although the location of the controls is going to take some getting used to, especially if you are a palm-muter. This is simply a design issue, that, given the size of the body, seems to be a moot point. The pickups and controls are also dead quiet, even the single coil, which surprised me.
I was unsure how to rate "quality" on this because I asked myself "does this have the absolute best of every item," and the answer of course, is no. But it's also priced at only $400. I the pickups aren't quite a full and rich sounding as Gibson Burstbucker Pros. Of course, a pair of Bursbuckers would cost almost what this entire guitar sells for. Also, this guitar doesn't strive to sound like a Les Paul. Sound wise, it seems to be somewhere between an SG and an Ibanez.

The fit and finish are excellent. There is no "oddness" or blems anywhere. The setup out of the box was, however, horrible. 10 minutes with a tuner and the included allen wrench cured that problem, and it's remained rock solid ever since, even through some fairly energetic trem activity. Due to the design, tuning is extremely stable.

The gig bag, while adequate, is pretty lame. Not much padding is included, and the zippers seem like they won't last too many years.
Unlike many other guitars in this price range, this one really stands out. It not only sounds good, it's rock solid, well-built, and just happens to be really fun and easy to play sitting on the couch.

And, for those who compare this to other "travel guitars," I will note that the difference between them and this, is that this one is a REAL guitar, and is quite capable of being gigged with. It's not some bizarre cut-down skeleton that compromises on sound. It's a full-fledged rocker, that just happens to be small, comfortable, and light weight.

I had the same problem as the previous reviewer- the bridge is mounted so poorly that it was grinding against the body. I own another Steinberger Spirit, and this guitar is worlds different. The neck is thick, REALLY thick! Also, take a really good look at the volume knob, the picture is innaccurate. Mine had the knob nearly touching the bridge pickup ring. You WILL beat your right hand to death on the volume knob. An interesting idea, not at all practical. This guitar used to be availible at another website, only there it was 25% cheaper! If you order this, you will soon wish you hadnt!

Comments about Steinberger Spirit GT-Pro Deluxe Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar in 2011 to use as a travel guitar to take along on business trips. After a good setup the guitar became an immediate favorite that gets played daily. Out of the box the guitar plays beautifully, sounds surprisingly rich, and sustains for days.

Being a habitual tweaker, I have made a few mods to this guitar that put it over the top. I replaced the pickups with the Seymour Duncan JB in the bridge position and Jazz in the neck (Whole Lotta Humbucker set). I also put a DiMarzio Area 58 in the middle slot. I dropped in a push-pull pot on the volume to split the coils on the humbuckers, changed the tone capacitor to fatten up the bass when the tone is rolled back, and I removed the finish from the neck and reshaped the neck to a slimmer profile. I've got Strats, Teles, LPs, and a G&L in my collection, but this little guitar that I bought for the single purpose of having a travel guitar has turned out to be a go-to guitar for almost any occasion. I couldn't recommend this guitar more heartily.

Comments about Steinberger Spirit GT-Pro Deluxe Electric Guitar:

For the price you be will hard pressed to find a tremolo this solid. Beautiful clean tones, overdrives nicely. Out of the box, action was high for my tastes but nothing that could not be remedied with a setup... and speaking of setup, it was much easy than I had anticipated to complete on this guitar. Love the axe... would recommend.

As far as delivery and service from MF... Meh. Mine was shipped with the wrong manual. I notified Customer Service 3 days later (mind you I received it on a Friday and made contact the following Monday) and was told to contact the manufacturer as MF was not responsible for the incorrect manual being supplied. I struggle to believe that this was not a returned unit that was ordered along with the a TransTrem model (presumably from a different distributor as MF does not sell the TransTrem) and the wrong manual was returned to MF with the Spirit I received. Could be wrong but come on guys... really? It is three days old and I placed a seven-hundred-American-pesos order!!! Whatever... it is the last order too ;) MF me once, shame on me; MF me twice shame on you.

Comments about Steinberger Spirit GT-Pro Deluxe Electric Guitar:

I bought this specifically for travel. I think the pickups have a decent range of tone, at least for Blues and Classic Rock, you may not be happy for Metal, but that's not my thing. The tuning screws left my fingers black the first time I used them. No manual (more exactly they give you the synapse manual, but they are not the same guitar). The high E string that shipped with the guitar unravelled at one ball end after a few hours of playing. The gig bag is quite flimsy, and doesn't form fit the guitar. A friend of mine has a Hohner version of this guitar and that gig bag is much better. Overall quite happy for the price, I'll use it for travel and may leave it at the office for noodling at lunch with a headset amp.

My main guitar. Great build quality. Sounds great. Plays awesome. Alot of people snicker at my using this guitar but, it works for me. Not for everyone I guess. Most reviews say the pickups are bad, mine sound good to me. The output is medium and I prefer that. They are dead quiet. Didn't need to do much at all. Out of the box it was set up great. The gigbag it comes with is definitely not great. I will be upgrading to a better one. That, to me, is the only less than desirable. Everything else is awesome for the money it costs. I'm thankful this was a return to Musicians Friend cuz I got a great open box special price on it. Cheers!

Comments about Steinberger Spirit GT-Pro Deluxe Electric Guitar:

I bought this to have a guitar to practice while traveling at work. It is excellent in that role. I had to tweek the truss rod a bit and lower the action to get it to my liking. It plays as well as other guitars I have that are 3 times the price. I replaced the string holder on the head to be able to use any kind of string rather than the double ball ended stings. Ernie Ball Stings on the guitar make a very big improvement in the sound and now I can get strings anywhere. The only thing I see that needs help is the tremolo system. It certainly works but not as good as a Floyd Rose. I keep it locked most of the time. The locking system is solid. Too bad the original Stienberger system from the 80's wasn't in its place, I'd pay much more for the guitar! But overall I am very happy with this guitar it does what I want it to. The gig bag it comes with is great and it makes a very compact travel guitar. And the price, I think it is a great value.

This was purchased as a travel guitar for it's small size, but it is a great instrument in it's own right. The neck is solid and it stays in tune well. It's easy to adjust the bridge for low action. The guitar arrived in perfect condition and needed little in the way of actual set-up. I would recommend the Spirit GT-Pro to friends without hesitation. Money well spent.
