Comments about Takamine G Series GD30CE-12 Dreadnought 12-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Just received this guitar a few days ago and, did my first gig with it and it played and sounded Great! It has all the features that you could want in a 12 string for a decent price. This is my first Takamine and, I must say I'm very pleased. I've had a few other 12 string guitars and this one blows them all away. The one thing that I noticed immediately was this instrument is balanced, what I mean is that the others I had were neck heavy. I had to do a little setup, slight truss rod adjustment and, lowered the action( this is easy because there are shims under the saddles). I pretty much do these kind of things to all my guitars and,I enjoy it. I like giving a personal touch to all of my instruments. I am very pleased with this instrument.

Comments about Takamine G Series GD30CE-12 Dreadnought 12-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

At Four-large with no case, you're paying a lot for the Takamine name. I will concede that they produce many great guitars, but I will also insist that you need to spend well over a Grand to begin to experience what this company's best offerings are about. Glen Frye, The Boss, Nils Lofgren, Bon Jovi, and numerous mainstream artists in both the rock and country genres swear by their Taks! This asymetrical neck design is a nightmare for someone without very long fingers or huge palms to compensate for where to hold the neck when forming shapes, especially. This is a ridge/bump that the designers built in more toward the player, thinking that we all need to "roll the neck in our hands" in order to "see" what our fingers are doing on the fretboard. I think someone was having a "bad sushi day," or something, because such a design criteria for this instrument does not make any sense to me at all. Materials, assembly, and electronics are excellent, and sadly enough, the tone is VERY nice, but it is not a playable guitar. The neck is so wide that I might consider using it as a spare fly swater in the Summer. Action was "reasonable" out of the box, but would require more than a turn on the truss rod to lower sufficiently to obtain reasonable string pressures across all 20 frets. I decided after a couple of days with minor adjustments that lowering saddles or nuts was not justified given the physical design of the neck, so I returned this instrument. After four years of "road torture" my Yamaha FG720S-12 with a Fishman Neo-D sound hole pickup gave up on me, and this was supposed to be a replacement/upgrade. If you are more careful with temperatures, the Yamaha represents a much better value and is a much more playable guitar for someone with average hands and finger length.

Comments about Takamine G Series GD30CE-12 Dreadnought 12-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

First, I don't know why Musicians' Friend doesn't list it as such, but the model number is a Takamine GD30-12.

I pretty much ordered this 12 string blind because the model is so new, there aren't any reviews or You Tube videos to judge it by. I went ahead and ordered it thinking that if I didn't like it, I'd send it back. The only thing I had to do when I got it was adjust the truss rod.

I've been playing this guitar for a month, and the more I play it, the better it sounds. The workmanship is pretty good. I like the vintage amber stained top and the abalone sound hole. The tuning keys do a great job of keeping the guitar in tube, but expect to tune the strings every time you play it. I usually tuned the guitar a full step down to reduce the tension on the neck.

The only thing I not crazy about is the tuner.... frankly I've had better onboard tuners. I haven't tried the other electronics yet.

Even with the mediocre tuner, the guitar sounds great. You'll get your money's worth for sure.

Comments about Takamine G Series GD30CE-12 Dreadnought 12-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

First off let me tell you I am semi professional musician that has been playing all types of rock and blues for over 30 years. Most of my best electric guitars until recently I built myself as I could not afford the guitars that played as good as I wanted. So I have become a pretty advanced luthier, however, never even considered building acoustic guitars. I have always wanted a quality 12 string guitar. I never purchased one because I have become spoiled to quality instruments and didn't want to spend the money for a 12 string just for more of a fun addition than any other reason. Boy was I wrong not to do this a long time ago. This guitar rivals some 12 strings I have played over the years at three times the price. With a proper professional setup, whatever it might be,
you wont be able to put this thing down! Mine only needed a minor truss rod adjustment and until I replace the top quality d addario strings that come wit
the guitar, it needs nothing. I will do a slight polish on the frets when strings
are off but that is just a personal preference. It plays just fine the way it is. The
tone, depth, size and fit and finish makes me wonder how they do this for the
money..This guitar is worth twice the price for what you get. The finish alone
is worth the price of admission. Buy it, enjoy it, and be totally inspired to play
things you never thought of. A creativity tool that is just a double bonus. And
best of all if it is not for you, musicians friend is the best with their
satisfaction guarantee. You can't go wrong with this purchase. Have fun!!!
