      Akai Professional

Brings Akai's classic beat-making to the world of computer music production.

The Akai MPD26 Performance Pad Controller sends MIDI over USB from its 16 genuine MPC pads. The Performance Pad is perfect for producers, programmers, musicians, and DJs. Its blend of intuitive MPC controls and technologies meshes with easy USB connectivity to bring the feel of classic beat making to the world of computer-based music production.

The heart of the Akai MPD26 is its bank of 16 velocity and pressure-sensitive MPC pads, an Akai Professional exclusive. You can access 4 different sounds from each of the MPC pads for a total of 64 sounds at your fingertips. The MPD26 also features the MPC series' assignable Q-Link controllers, enabling you to control nearly any parameters in your software in real time. You get six assignable Q-Link faders and six assignable Q-Link 360° knobs, so you'll spend less time with the mouse and more time making music. The Akai MPD26 also gives you a dedicated set of transport controls for instant access to the most commonly used Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) or sequencing-software controls.

While the Akai MPC pads and Q-Links might be the heart of the MPD26, its brain is transplanted directly from the Music Production Controller. That's because the MPD26 is not just a MIDI control surface; it contains some of the key MPC technologies that have made the MPC the industry standard it is. MPC Note Repeat is a capability that enables the MPD to automatically play a rhythm pattern, such as 16th notes on a hi-hat, for accuracy and speed of entry. MPC Swing is sometimes referred to as "the heart and soul of hip hop" because it turns perfectly aligned sequences into human-feeling time alignments. You can specify exactly the degree and timing of swing you want to apply for the perfect feel. The Akai MPD26 also has MPC Full Level and MPC 16-Level on its pads.

The Akai MPD26 sends MIDI information over its plug-and-play USB interface so you can use it with your Mac or PC without installing any drivers. The USB connection even powers the MPD26 so the included USB cable is all you need. The MPD26 also has traditional DIN MIDI input and output jacks so you can use it with MIDI hardware such as synths and other sound modules. The Akai MPD26 comes with Ableton Live Lite and Editor Librarian software so you can start creating immediately.

Includes MPD26, USB cable, software CD, and quick start guide.

Comments about Akai Professional MPD26 Performance Pad Controller:

Very sturdy feel. I like the response of the pads. Not sure i will really use the sliders and knobs, but the transport is nice for my DAW. I found the setup to be difficult with logic and reason. I am still having issues and really did not find the manual helpful. The included editor software is nice as a visual, but it seems to be quirky and not always save edits correctly. With some time, I may give this 5 stars, but compared to my axiom pro, I find the setup to be a little difficult and take a ton of time.

Great for the Producer on a budget

Comments about Akai Professional MPD26 Performance Pad Controller:

There are included features that help the MPD link up to specific DAWs, unfortuntately there aren't any for for my DAW. I use this product in Garageband/Logic, and I've had ZERO issues for compatability. Truly plug & play, you can change details of specific kits/virtual instruments, play complex patterns/beats, as far as a beat machine/midi controller goes I was extremely impressed with its ability to create original compositions.
Overall it's awesome for what I use it for. It totally opened me up to new options/avenues of creation, and I'll definitely continue using Akai products for my production purposes, they got it locked down
I'm still getting familiar with a lot of the extra features on the MPD-26, but for what you pay for this the set-up is great for anyone looking to get a drum-machine feel with their midi controller. I'm assuming since there's multiple features I'm still not familiar/comfortable with then it's certainly not just a plain basic set-up. But at the same time it's great for someone who's still learning the whole production process/level entry DJ's/Musicians/Producers
Not bad, but not great. Just like with any other piece of musical equipment, you get what you pay for. The pads are quite sensitive, but a little stiff. I would imagine on the higher end AKAI drum machines/midi controllers the pads are little bit better. But compared to my Mac keyboard that I was momentarily using for production, this is a HUGE upgrade. It's built out of a rugged plastic, seems durable. There's no reason why you should be abusing your equipment to that extent anyways.

Comments about Akai Professional MPD26 Performance Pad Controller:

This Is the center of my music production. The only thing i found a little annoying was that the mpc pads aren't as high off the platform as a real MPC's pads, but you'll get used to it. the only thing I have to tell you is don't rely on the software it comes with. you can download a fl studio demo on Fl's Website, and it last forever. Use that. But otherwise, Incredible little thing
