Five-octave controller with DAW support.
The Impact LX61 USB MIDI controller delivers performance way above its class. With velocity-sensitive pads, rubberized fader caps and a low-profile design, it feels, looks, performs to professional expectations, and is supported the way your performance deserves. Integration with popular DAWs makes it easy to set up.
This 61-note velocity-sensitive keyboard features synth action with medium tension. The piano-style keys are covered to protect against dust while complementing the design. With 4 velocity curves increasing in dynamics, any playing style can be accommodated. Octave and transpose buttons, as well as pitch bend and modulation wheels are within reach, so you can shift the keyboard up or down as needed, or apply articulation with the wheels.
OCTAVE & TRANSPOSE BUTTONS
There is more to the 4 Octave & Transpose buttons than meets the eye. 4 functions are selectable on the fly so you can make important changes at any time, even while you play. A key combination makes assignment quick and easy. Choices include sending out MIDI Program Messages, change the Global MIDI Channel or select any of Impact LX's 5 user presets with either the Octave or Transpose buttons.
Each pad can be assigned any MIDI note number or MIDI cc message, for use as MIDI trigger or toggle buttons. The Pad Learn feature allows you to just select a pad, play the note or drum sound you want, and assignment is done. Assignments are stored over power cycling so you don't lose your settings when you switch your system off.
Impact LX61 software integration supports most popular DAWs. A common workflow gives access to many of the functions you are most likely to need when recording and performing with your Impact LX. Impact LX DAW integration supports Cubase, Digital Performer, Garageband, Logic, Nuendo, Reaper, Reason, Sonar and Studio One. Relying on your computer screen for constant feedback, important and essential windows related to what you are controlling can be open and closed as needed, right from Impact LX61.
TRANSPORT & NAVIGATION
The 6 dedicated transport buttons are always within reach and mapped to control Cycle, Rewind, Forward, Stop, Play and Record. Press Shift to get access to alternate functions such as Goto L, Set L, Set R, Undo, Click and Mode*. Additional alternate DAW functions include Track up/down and Patch up/down to change your instrument patches are available via the display buttons.
No other entry-level DAW is this easy to use, yet offers unlimited tracks and plug-in instantiations, extensive use of drag-and-drop, and in-depth editing features. Additionally, Bitwig 8-Track is included with the Impact LX USB keyboard.
Great value on a powerful controller.

Comments about Nektar Impact LX61+:
Right out of the box: installed the Logic template and I assigned the LX61+ to Midi Channel 12 ( Other Midi devices are in my system) from the get go it works perfectly and consistently. It is also mapped in useful depth. Once set up: I can actually record or perform with this without having to reach for the keyboard and mouse, as all the transport and cycle functions, track and bank movements can be reliably controlled from the device. With Logic I just mapped the user bank to the Smart Controls: done: whatever plugin or synth I pull up is mapped as I want.
There isn't a template for Ableton Live which I some times have a call for: but Live is so midi control friendly, it doesn't take long to make assignments. I did a quick look see: it seems workable. Power users will also have a matrix controller anyway.
The overall layout and ergonomics are truly great to my way of working: Controller locations, the easy access to parameters, toggling between user & default setup. One go through the manual and I've got it down. I don't see myself having to recheck the manual.
Lightly built: quality seems reasonably durable: on par for the price range: It has a typical synth action, similar feel to many, with enough pressure feedback to be usable. Tactile sensitivity is enough that with well chosen choices of velocity curves, it adjusts to be sensitively playable for a variety of virtual instruments: remember: these rely on velocity sensitivity, not pressure: It's also acceptably quiet.
I long ago gave up expecting expecting any controller to be like a piano: I accept that it's a matter of learning to play a modeled piano. I change velocity curves depending on whether I'm emulating a piano, drums, or orchestral instruments. Its easy to change between them. Also the pads are very good.
So, all in all: A satisfactory, slightly better than average keyboard action - especially for the price, top of the charts as a midi controller at any price.

I like the feel of the keys and it has been working fine. It is complicated to figure out how it integrates and sometimes I cannot understand whats happening. As I look up things I am slowly figuring this nice keyboard out. I am a jazz upright bass player and I am just new to these devices so it may be just my age and experience. I have already made some lovely recordings that I have sold, and enjoy this keyboard.
