you get what you pay for.....

Comments about Pearl Competitor High-Tension Marching Snare Drum:

This drum is a cheap out. i used this drum at one school before we moved. the school was wealthier than most, but did not care about its musical arts program. the drum is good when you first use it(after you replace the head) but then you start to realize all the cons and not enough pros. the snares are not individually adjustable and you can never get them tight enough. the snare can only hold up to 3/4 of the tension that a pearl championship snare can. the drum does not project at all in an ensemble. the covering and the drum are very hard to clean. a total waste of money. save up for a pearl championship maple or carbonply.

Comments about Pearl Competitor High-Tension Marching Snare Drum:

I got this drum for Christmas and tightened the head as tight as I could get it. The head it came with broke within a few days but I replaced it with an Evans Coated Hybrid head and it sounds freakin amazing! I love this drum!!

Comments about Pearl Competitor High-Tension Marching Snare Drum:

I got this a few months ago. I put a Remo white max and it sounds almost as good as my schools championship snares. Overall it's a good snare that holds up well, and I would recommend it!

    Nice Snares

    By youngdrummer7

Comments about Pearl Competitor High-Tension Marching Snare Drum:

I play in my high school's marching band and we just got these snares. I have to say, they are quite nice. The heads need to be tuned tight to have a good sound, but other than that, they are excellent.

    Overall OK

    By metalhead-a2boU

Comments about Pearl Competitor High-Tension Marching Snare Drum:

These drums are pretty good. I use them at my high school and with the right heads they are great. I recomend an evans head top and bottom. One of the other drumers on the line broke two evans heads and now he stuck with the stock. These drums must be tuned very tight to got a good sound. If you are a good tuner and have the money for new heads get it is the best you can get.

Wish they made the Old competitors

    By Eddie D

    from Fl

Comments about Pearl Competitor High-Tension Marching Snare Drum:

I wish they still made the old competitors (like the Yamaha Filed Corps) with the die-cast hoops and good snare parts. This is obviously a cheap out using some of the FFX free float parts and cheap snare parts. That being said just use a mylar head and it will probably sound ok. Don't use Remo Falams or other kevlars and think it will sound like the FFX. The hoops are good enough.

This is not the right drum

Comments about Pearl Competitor High-Tension Marching Snare Drum:

This is not the right drum for people who want a good, full, piercing sound drum. This drum does not have a very good sound because of the low tention snare. this snare is held out buy a laminent transparent strip, just like a concert snare. The drum does have a great sheel and lugs. The bottom head it comes with is alright. The top head is not very good because it comes with a plastic head, which does not produce a good sound at all. If applied a yamaha sfz top ring and a pure kevlar head with the top coating taken off carefully if produces of the best sounds I have heard in the world. I have a Pearl competitor high tension and it has a pure kevlar no coating on it and it has a yamaha sfz top ring.
