Comments about Rotosound RS4000 Superb 3/4 Size Double Bass Strings:
I love the Rotosound RS4000 strings. However, the first time you use them, they will freak you out. The E and A strings are metal. The D and G are all nylon. Because of this, the D is fatter than the A. The E and A are silver. The D and G are yellow. I can't tell you how many times people have asked me about this when looking at my bass. Instead of ball ends, they have hoops. I recommended these strings to other players at gigs and then a few days later I get a phone call asking me how to install them. It's easy: you stick the hoop through the bridge, run the string through the hoop and then take the string up to the tuner. I had to take a picture to show people. Also, as noted by another reviewer, the strings are too long for a 3/4 bass. Be warned, don't cut the strings too close to the wrap or you will ruin the string. Then you have to wrap them around your tuning peg about 20 times or so it seems. Once or twice, I haven't felt like doing this, so I paid my local lutheir to do it for me. So, they look weird and are a pain to install. But how do they sound? Fantastic. They are perfect for Rockabilly slap because the nylons are so springy and the metal and so clicky. They are great for bowing because they feel great on the bow, but it takes a while to get good tone on the nylons (practice I mean, it was me more than the string). There is something about the way these strings spring back when playing with your fingers that I can't describe other than it just feels "right". When other players play my bass they ask me about the strings and often end up getting some of their own. I do have to offer a slight warning, if you play a lot of rockabilly slap on these and you have a "soft" fingerboard like my Engelhardt EC1, you will get groves on your fingerboard under the metal strings. I personally don't think it's that big of a deal, but you might care more than I do. The drawbacks are they are funny looking and can damage your fingerboard, so I keep trying new strings, but after I try some new string that is supposed to be better, I get tired of them after a week or two and end up going back to my faithful Rotosounds.
Comments about Rotosound RS4000 Superb 3/4 Size Double Bass Strings:
The strings are ideal for rock/psychobilly. Very easy on the hands but still gives good tone, Unlike some other all nylon strings. The only probley I had with my set was it seems like it was made for a 4/4 bass so apon instaling them on my 3/4 bass, I had to trim A LOT. And attaching the ends into the end piece. They have small metal loops instead of balls/stops.
