AKG

A home and project studio workhorse.

The AKG C2000B/H85 is a microphone that excels at reproducing guitar and vocal sounds. Today, any microphone needs to match the high quality of 24-bit recording media. And one of the basic rules of recording is that the quality of the recorded signal is determined by the weakest link in the signal chain.

Therefore, one of the most important requirements for the AKG C2000B/H85 mic was high sensitivity. This allows you to lay clean, noise-free tracks with no risk of noise levels from many individual tracks combining in the mix. Its high SPL capability makes the C2000B/H85 a highly versatile microphone that can be used even for extremely loud instruments.

The AKG C2000B/H85 mic will deliver perfect results for demo recordings, in the rehearsal room, as well as in the best recording studios.

AKG includes a spider suspension shock mount and hardshell case with the C2000B/H85 microphone.

Requires phantom power.

I have owned and loved the C1000S for ten years now, so when I wanted a new feel for my album, I looked to the C2000B, since it is more of a vocal and all around mic. Wow, now I know why I have always gone for AKG. Smooth, up front, detailed vocals. Such a natural sound. I am in love with this mic. I haven't tried it with an instrument other than my voice, though. I also own a ST55, which is nice, but a little too raw, however, it can sound great with the right amount of eq. The C2000 together with my Focusrite pre-amp sounds sensational. Very professional compared to the Neumann U47 which I have used down at the studio. Not as silky as the Neumann, but for 300 bucks, you can't beat the C2000!!

I played something I recorded using this mic to a friend who's opinion I value and he immediately asked what mic I sang through and insisted I never sing through a different mic! BUT I discovered it is really awesome for recording super crisp snare. I have since bought a few more expensive mics but always glad I have this one waiting for me.

I bought this mic about 6 or 7 months ago and I love it.  Its great for vocals or acoustic instruments.  Get a nice mic pre and the c2000 compares to some good higher end mics.  Im acually very happy with AKG right now.  They seem to be putting out alot of really great quality mics for fairly cheap prices.

I'm mixing an album right now that I just finished recording for a client. During recording we used Neumann km-84's, a Neumann U87 and a Royer R-121 (and some other good stuff). This AKG 2000B we used on vocals with some tracks and the neumann U-87 on others. The neumann is a better mic. But this AKG mic really did hold up against  the neumann U-87 and the other ones we used. I don't regret putting this mic on the album at all. Seriously, this mic is great.

I purchased my Akg c2000 seven years ago.  It was my first decent microphone for recording.  The c2000 can work well for certain vocalists as well as a variety instruments provided you are playing in a decent room.  I have used it successfully micing a bass cab as well.  It tends to have a certain bite in the highs that is almost metallic.  Its as if certain upper harmonics are oversaturated.  If I were in the same position now as I was when I purchased this (I was a complete novice),  I would get an sm57 first.  If you have a small home studio and like to record a lot of different, strange instruments/sounds,  the combination of this and a 57 can yield some really great recordings.    I have heard that there are a number of newer mics that blow this away,  so I would do some research before purchasing a c2000.  As one user said,  it works great with a tube preamp.  I have an older joe meek that I use with the c2000 which helps with that metallic high end. A matched pair can work for drum overheads as well,  but If you have the cash,  get two sm81's.
