I have previously owed these and when I went to upgrade to my new digital studio, there was not a second thought to get a couple of them to replace the old. They are lightweight, yet deliver exceptional sound quality for the cost, in fact they are as good or better than a lot of more expensive units. If you are on a budget you can't miss with these, and if you have a great budget, you still can't go wrong....

I bought these to replace the 10 year old k240s that fell apart but still work after resoldering many times. The old 600 ohm version has a flatter sound which is better for studio work. The new 55 ohm version has a bit of an unnatural bass increase whilst the mid range is deficient, I suspect this may be to cater to the overly compressed ipod culture we live in. I'm going to take the old 600 ohm elements and shove them into the new shell. If they still made the 600 version I would get them, I've only seen the 55 ohm version available now. They did fix that s*itty linecord design, with the new miniplug. What's the use when the sound has changed. I will look for a new headphone in the future, 'tis a shame, they had a great sound and light weight, too.

Comments about AKG K240 Studio Headphones:

The current K240 Studio should be renamed "BUMPS by AKG". These are for the 128kb MP3 listener who only appreciates singles. Professionals, audiophiles, and users of the old, flat-response K240 sets should look at other models. "They don't make them like they used to."

Comments about AKG K240 Studio Headphones:

These headphones are the best I know of for studio work. They are crystal clear with flat response, and you can easily hear every frequency in the natural audio spectrum. I also find these headphones can get the job done for live mixing, but they lack isolation, so thy have to be cranked pretty loud.

Comments about AKG K240 Studio Headphones:

These AKCs are the best headphones I've ever purchased. I have owned Sony, Sennheiser, JVC, Bose and AKC previously; the K240S are by far the best in my arsenal. I even purchased a pair for my son for his music studio and he too was impressed with the accurate clarity of sound...He realize now he has to tweak many of his recordings. I mainly use them to prepare for concert performances and rehearsals and I am most pleased with these. Purchase a set today!!

Comments about AKG K240 Studio Headphones:

I have used these headphones for years, so recently decided to get a few more pairs. I was pleasantly surprised that the price has gone down significantly from last time I shopped for them (probably because mkII came out). I like these for casual listening (don't like in-ear buds) because they sit comfortably and don't squeeze your head too much. I can listen to these for close to an hour without a break. I also like them for control room listening (at the price point it's cost effective to obtain several), and for a solo channel when running live sound. These would not be suitable for a tracking room, as you will get sound bleed with any sensitive microphone.

Another good feature is the detachable cable; in case something goes wrong, it's easy to replace without getting rid of the whole thing. Construction is durable, I have yet to have a pair of these break on me, and I am not exactly the most careful user when it comes to headphones.

These sound fantastic for a home studio. Much cleaner than my old headphones, and my mixes are coming out much better now. They do get a little 'sweaty' after hours of having them on, and they are a bit heavy.

Comments about AKG K240 Studio Headphones:

Sound leaks as expected with the semi open design. The sounds are warm as the drivers have room to breathe, rather than being insulated like the closed backs. This creates a warmth to the low ends rather than a thump. I've had these cans on for hours with little fatigue. they are light weight. I only wish they had come with a coiled cord. Going price on the internet is about forty hard earned american currency units.

But after using them for a while I was quickly turned around. They are excellant for home use and have quite a bit of volume. Very light weight with plenty of cord so that you don't have to sit on your amp. Really glad I went with these.

Comments about AKG K240 Studio Headphones:

I was talked into buying these by an "experienced" salesman. He convinced me these were better than any of my Sony, Koss, or Technics headphones, which would warrant the higher price. This was one of my most disappointing purchases to date. Sure they're comfortable, but the sound reproduction was NOT representative of my mix. An A-B comparison with all my others was easy verification. Poor bass response, and hefty in the mids. They are the last on my list of preferences in my phones arsenal.

                  from Asheville, NC

Comments about AKG K240 Studio Headphones:

I have owned three pairs of these headphones (I bought them all at the same time for my studio). THe sound quality is superb, especially when monitoring at 24/96, very airy top end, booming low end without being mudy or harsh. BUT, all three have broen in less than two years. And it has been the exact same flaw, the left side of the phones will be intermittent and then stop working completely, then both will cease to work, leaving me with three dead headphones. AND unlike a lot of other brands these things are impossible to service without breaking. A very frustrating experience. I would love to upgrade to the newer high end AKG's becasue of sound quality, but their construction makes me go look at the more reliable Sony's. I advise you do the same.

If you're looking for an affordable set of headphones that you can use to mix before touching up your mix with reference monitors, these are perfect. The detachable cable is also a big plus.

There's no noise canceling but turn these up and you be able to hear any background noise anyway. Very loud and well built. Can't beat the price for this quality. The cord is sturdy and has a lock going into the headphone end. The other end is threaded to attach the 1/4" adapter.

Comments about AKG K240 Studio Headphones:

I have owned 240's since 1978 I have 6 sets all still work as you can get replacement parts.I had to replace many ear pads.
                        I have 2 sets of 270's used from drummers-singers.
yes the 600ohm version sounds different, better or not is a personal thing this is like explaigning a color to a blind person. But I never use cans to mix! If you cannot afford good monitors ......Cans will never give you a mix like great monitors will. For those the blow drivers in these= your amp is not powerfull enough, these cans will give you ear damage if not carefull at high volumes! under powered amps break speakers . Do some research here!
