16-mono, 3-stereo channel mixer for live sound, recording, and production.
From the Allen & Heath's ZED series, the ZED-22 FX has been developed around a new FX chipset. Allen & Heath's DSP engineers crafted and refined beautiful reverb algorithms and the 16 effects they created are unique to the ZED FX mixing consoles. 16 essential time-delay effects add to the already bulging feature set. The mixer is ideal for small groups who don't want to carry around an effects unit with their gear but who still want great quality FX at their gigs and on their recordings. In addition, you get smooth-sounding DuoPre mic preamps, 100mm faders, and the MusiQ EQ section which are shared with the whole ZED range.
Internal FX
16 separate effects have been crafted into the ZED-FX range. These include Delay and Reverb, Ping-Pong delay, a selection of reverbs with different room/hall/arena properties, a flanger, and a chorus. All have been designed to sweeten your sound with minimal effort. Each of the effects has a parameter which can be altered: pre-delay can be adjusted, room sizes tweaked, and flanger speed dialed-in. 5 of the effects can have their tempo tapped in, and the output auditioned by the FX PFL.
Inputs
One of the great things about the ZED-22FX USB mixer is the number and variety of things you can plug in. In addition to the 16 mono channels, there are 3 dual stereo channels, each with a main stereo input on the jack sockets, and with the ability to take additional stereo inputs from phono sockets, or from the USB audio input. 16 mic/line channels are provided on the ZED-22FX—plenty for mics or DI boxes for a small band, duo, or solo performer, as well as 4 stereo line inputs—dual inputs, both with gain and 2-band EQ.
DuoPre
Based on the proven preamps from their PA series, Allen & Heath's ZED series mixers have DuoPre preamps which use a 2-stage design, with carefully controlled amounts of gain in each stage. When amplifying the signal from the XLR input, the gain range is huge—69dB of range to be exact—and is very evenly distributed around the gain control, meaning better control of signal level. Most of the gain comes from the first stage, so unwanted noise is kept to a minimum. Line level signals are simply plugged into the second stage of the preamp by using the line input jack socket, which has the great advantage of less noise when using the line input.
EQ section
The ZED-22FX series mixers feature a musical 3-band EQ derived from the acclaimed GL2400 mixer. The design uses MusiQ—optimised slope (or Q factor) for equalizing individual instruments.
Auxiliary sends
4 aux sends are provided, of which 1 & 2 are prefade for foldback monitoring, and 3 & 4 post-fade for effects sends. A stereo signal can be sent from auxes via USB-to-computer to create 2 separate record feeds independent of the main L/R mix (1&2) and or used as FX sends (3&4).
USB audio flexibility
Getting audio to and from a computer easily is now a common requirement for live sound and music production. The way this has been implemented on the ZED-22FX USB mixer is flexible and easy. No longer do you need to fiddle around the back of your PC to get to the soundcard inputs only to find that the levels are all wrong and noisy. Just plug in a USB lead to your mixer, select the USB routing on the mixer and the device on your computer, and that's it. 3 switches provide different send/return configurations for recording, playback, and utilizing external FX.
Build
The ZED-22FX USB mixer has been designed using individual, vertically mounted circuit boards with each rotary control fixed with a metal nut to the front panel—making a much more robust product that will resist damage and give years of reliable use. It also has professional 100mm faders for ultimate control over your levels.
SONAR LE included
Allen & Heath teamed up with Cakewalk to bundle SONAR LE with the ZED 22-FX mixer. The 2 work together in many ways, from straightforward recording of a stereo mix to recording tracks individually to build up a song, or even for inserting a SONAR LE effects plug-in.
ZED FX Series
ZED FX USB mixers are easily controlled using 3 buttons and 9 LEDs. Quickly tap the ideal delay time or dial in the perfect amount of reverb on the lead vocal. Talk about one-stop navigation and editing, it's just as easy your average effects pedals. Hold down the TAP button and press the up or down button to alter the effects parameter. For example, on patch (9) Plate, this would adjust the decay length. The ZED-22FX mixer is designed to fulfill all the functions needed for a small band. The layout and features have all been arranged to be logical and instantly recognizable even at a dark gig to make it a mixer you can trust to perform.
The USB audio interface, with its uniquely flexible capability, allows different signals to be sent to USB, from L/R or from selected aux buses. The USB return signal can be routed straight to the L/R mix or to a stereo channel. The connectors are placed on the top surface for easy plugging & patching, and the construction, with individual circuit boards firmly nutted to the top panel, is as rock solid as Allen & Heath's top-of-the range ML Series mixers.

Bought one of these about 18 mos. ago. Upgraded from an old Audio Centron (which still works great). I thought that with the A & H name,quality would surly be there. Two input jacks never have worked properly. The main outs are very weak. For the past few months I have been losing the right outputs on 2 channels intermittantly. Now they are out for good..You can't buy parts from A & H 's U.S. distibutor or anywhere else for that matter. So I guess it's an O.K. mixer until it breaks (and it will). Then you just throw it away,I guess..Would never buy another A& H product..

Great board, especially bands that want to run their own sound. I play guitar/sing in a 3-piece blues band and this board makes setting up and running sound from the stage as simple as I believe to be possible. This board is very intuitive, has awesome preamps, amazing headroom, useable effects, built like a tank, and again, easy to use, and get a great sound. This board had a warmth in the sound that is hard to explain in words...it's very musical. You get everything you need and nothing you don't. For the money, you can't find a better board.

We recently purchased this board for our church worship band. We could not be happier with this mixer. The preamps are high quality. The effects are excellent. The reverbs are natural sounding. The USB connection is useful for many purposes. The sweepable mid tone control is great. I did alot of research before deciding on this board. There are cheaper mixers that will give you more bells and whistles. However they can't match the quality that Allen & Heath puts into their products.

Got this for my smaller gigs. For what it is, it's an excellent board. Traditional A&H sound, good feel, and good look. Not heavy at all. Drawbacks: only one mid sweep, only 4 aux sends. If you're on a budget, or just need a console for smaller gigs, this one hands down is awesome.

As a 20 year veteran, I have used many, many mixers, and they always fall short in one area of another. This board does it all, it is easy to set for high and low mids, as clean and quiet as you could ask for, doesn't have millions of crazy lights and signals, just gives you what you need. And oh yes, Headroom!! This may be the last mixer I have to buy, but if I have to go bigger it will definitely be Allen & Heath...Believe it!!

I spent a lot of time reviewing all the options in this price range. I needed to upgrade my Project Studio in Nashville into the 21st Century. I got rid of three Mackies and replaced them with this. The input module head room alone is the deal maker for me and you get a lot more. The effects are very usable although not all of them are really musical. The EQ sections are the most Musical I have seen short of 5 figure boards I have a Focusrite DAW Interface and did not think the USB would be used but it is really good for a 16 bit interface. Worth every buck!

I',ve always wanted to get into the live sound seen and decided that i would jump in this pass Jan. 2009. I've done a few gigs at the beginning like baby partys and dj stuff until i hit my first gig. I believe this board help get more work from 1 gig a month to booked solid every weekend. With every band i've had the same comment "my brother, you made us sound GOOD." i mean this board has it all, effects, 100m sliders i mean everything. Just buy the board. You wont regret it. I've grossed close to 24,000 this year just from gigs and i'm a truck driver. Anyways you'll be impressed with this board.

This is the best mixer I have ever had in 10 years. I have had experienced with Mackie, Roland, Behringer, Peavey, Yamaha, and last but no least Soundcraft mixers. Throughout all these mixer this one sounded the best for me...I am a musician and a recording artist...The sound is so silent and clear, and it give you what you want to hear.

The ZED 22 USB is awsome. If you are a sound guy and are looking for an affordible board, with lots of features, THIS IS THE ONE FOR YOU! The Zed 22 USB is also good for bands who run there own sound, or permanet installation. Great effects. It works great with a FOH rack too. Great board, I'm going to buy one!
