Great Microphone

Comments about Audix OM-5 Dynamic Microphone:

I would not hesitate recommending this to anyone looking for a great performing mic. I must admit I was so impressed I went and purchased an OM-7 and absolutely love it too......but its more expensive. I have very limited experience, but what I have tells me the OM-5 is a solid choice for the money.
I am new to amplified performances and asked several sound guys who I knew what I should buy. It was suggested that I look at Audix and that if I had the money start at the OM-5. I did and love the richness of the sound. Not being very knowledgeable so all I can say is that I am very pleased with the results and perform weekly singing a range of styles from Blues to Ballads. Very pleased.
So far I have no complaints. The mic feels substantial without feeling heavy. No problems with feedback at all. Cable snaps in with a good solid feel.
I'm always a bit frugal with my money but took a chance and feel good about the decision.

GREAT MIC

Comments about Audix OM-5 Dynamic Microphone:

I'll keep it short and to the point, this mic is very good at letting you turn up the volume of the mixer and not getting FEEDBACK. I own three of these and I wouldn't trade them for anything. My old vocal mics were akg's very good mics just not as good as these. At practice in my basement we use two of the OM 5 mics and we use two pv115's as monitors thru a behringer ep4000 and not a squeal is heard. Your choise I don't think you will be sorry if you buy these

Great vocal mic for live events

By Joe

from Wylie Texas

Comments about Audix OM-5 Dynamic Microphone:

Throughout my 30+ years singing live music, I have used many brands of microphones: Shure SM58 & SM58 Beta, Beyerdynamic TGX58, Sennheisers, and many other brands like Nady, Peavey, and AKG. But, my favorite mic is the Audix OM5 mic. When I asked the guy at my local music store what was the best vocal mic for live music, he said the Audix OM5 which surprised me. I purchased the mic and have loved it ever since. It seems to have a beefier sound for my voice. This mic costs a little more than I wanted to pay, but it is worth it.

Great Mic for lead singers!

By Joshua Motes

Comments about Audix OM-5 Dynamic Microphone:

I use one of these for the lead singer and three OM-2's for the back-ups and I couldn't be happier: the OM-5 really cuts through the others and gives a perfect mix every time with minimal Equalizing needed. I prefer the OM-2s to the shure SM-58 and have found them to be most reliable. Buy an Audix and you won't be disappointed!

Comments about Audix OM-5 Dynamic Microphone:

For the money, the OM-5 is a very decent microphone. I used to use an SM57 at live acoustic gigs which worked wonders, but when that quit I decided to purchase an OM-5. The OM-5 required a lot more EQ than the SM57 in order to sound great; the SM57 was very flat in comparison, and worked great on my voice. This mic shines in a rock setting; above a wall of distorted guitar and full-force drum; cutting. Powerful.Thankfully, I had the chance to A/B this with an SM58. The SM58 was clearer, especially in the highs, but the Audix OM-5 was richer and more defined throughout the whole spectrum. I also A/B'd them both on my guitar amp (Marshall/Mesa Boogie). The OM-5 once again is richer, more complex, but the SM58 is cleaner and allows the guitar to cut through the mix better. For drums, the OM-5 is less than satisfactory. On the snare, it's almost impossible to get a clean, defined crack. You're left with a muddy, hollow snare sound.Great live vocal mic! Not so hot on instruments.

It's Okay...

By Sweet-Cheeks-Mcgeezie

from Florida

Comments about Audix OM-5 Dynamic Microphone:

I don't like the way this mic is treble-biased. It makes my deep voice sound to high and doesn't give any fatness or sound color. The lows are virtually non-existant. It sounds too plain for this deeper voiced singer. It would be good for women or a male with a midrange or higher voice.

absolutely love this mic

By darkestdays

from long island, ny

Comments about Audix OM-5 Dynamic Microphone:

I have aquired many mics over the years, so when I open my mic bag I have everything from sm58, beta58, beyern, vtech, ibanez, samson, akg, but when I get to the studio or a live show, I found the om5 to be the best mic I ever used. Sound is clear and works well with my voice, shure makes my voice tinny and thin and higher pitched then it really is, also, highly resistant to feedback, and I have a very loud voice, cannot distort this thing! Try something other then the basic choices, you will be very happy.

This mic is not for everyone. This is for singers who care about performing music more than as a hobby and know how to stay on the mic. For recording, I would choose this mic over any condensor under $1k. But to each their own.

Comments about Audix OM-5 Dynamic Microphone:

Great mic, love it. Better than the shures for my voice, since I don't need as much bass proximity boost. LOTS OF HANDLING NOISE, but i play guitar or bass or keys so I leave it set up and don't touch it. I am also pretty good at playing the mic. My last one broke (it was old, don't know what happened) and I had to use my shure in the mean time. Way more feedback, less clear and cutting sound, needed MORE GAIN on MIC! Isn't that supposed to be the other way around? Glad to be back to my audix.

    OM-5 was not for me

    By Shroud

    from Bronx, NY

Comments about Audix OM-5 Dynamic Microphone:

I've been using this mic for a couple of years with my hard rock band. It's very good at feedback rejection, but I find the sound of the mic to be brittle with not enough low end. It can sound o.k. if you have a really good soundman. Most of the time I sound like a transistor radio (well maybe not that bad, but you get the picture). Maybe some people can get a good sound from it. I haven't had much luck

Comments about Audix OM-5 Dynamic Microphone:

Crisp, clear, loud, affordable. I am a singing drummer. I use the OM5 when we do larger gigs and a sound company is doing the sound for us. I have learned that you need to get right on the mic with the OM5. Great Mic though. Audix products are like Apple products. First class all the way.

Great for a lot of things, but not for everything.

    from Earth

Comments about Audix OM-5 Dynamic Microphone:

This mic has a great sound, especially for vocals. It's a little treble-biased, which does give it a nice crisp sound. That's great for a lot of vocals, whereas it make annunciation(sp) very clear and concise. It still has enough low end to where it doesn't sound brittle (when used for vocals). I would imagine it would also make an excellent mic for brass instruments. However, it doesn't make a good mic for milking guitar cabs, for miking most drums, and for miking an acoustic guitar. It will make your guitars sound tinny. If trying to get a country twang in your guitar, however, it's probably excellent. And the vocal sound isn't for everyone, whereas some people may want more "coloring" to their vocal tones. This makes the vocals sound very natural, as opposed to the vocal coloring of my earlier mic of choice, the SM57. This mic is very high quality and will stand up to more abuse than probably any mic o the planet. It's definitely worth your money. Sometimes it takes a while to find the right mic for you though. I don't think I'll ever be completely satisfied with ANY mic.

    Best live mic

    By upyours86

    from San Diego, CA

Comments about Audix OM-5 Dynamic Microphone:

I've used upper end shure's that aren't as good (for my voice) as this mic. It is tailored to mid range like it says so if it isn't warm enough, you probably have that rich tenor tone and I'd recommend a shure sm86 for roughly the same price. (Condensor mic so you'll need phantom power) But if you're screaming or have a mid to upper register. This mics tone will bleed for you.

Comments about Audix OM-5 Dynamic Microphone:

This mic is of very high quality and the sound it produces is evident. Excalent responce and clear as a bell. No distorstion or popping. Very little handling noise if any, (I have heavy hands). Like the om-7 you need to have a good powered mixer or a pre-amp to make this mic "sing"It performs very good on stage and is as tough as they come. I have had it now for more than three years and it has not let me down. I will not sing through anything else.

This is the best live mic I have ever used

    By Eric Mazzone

    from Fort Walton Beach, FL

Comments about Audix OM-5 Dynamic Microphone:

This is the best mic I have ever used. It can withstand high output without the sacrifice of quality. I used to use Shure mics, but ever since I've been using the Audix OM-5, I can hear myself better and clearer. I highly recommend this mic if you need a loud, high quality vocal mic, the Audix OM-5 is the mic for you.

I was looking for an alternative to the Shure SM58A Beta that I've been using for years and years and the Audix OM-5 was recommended to me by a professional sound guy. He absolutely did not steer me wrong. Nice mic. Took me a couple performances to get it set right through the mixer (I mix myself on the fly) but it's a very nice, crisp mic for both spoken word and song performance.
