I use the CL-1 for broadcast television in buildings where we have to use noisy house cable. The CL-1 locally amplifies the mics in the announce booth to get over the noise floor due to the long cable runs. I used to use battery powered mic preamps at the mic to clear up noisy lines which would led to battery changes in commercial breaks. Since CL-1 runs on phantom power I don't have to worry about batteries. Wish there was a version that passed phantom power so that I could use a Cloudlifter on a condenser mic such as a shotgun which is the work horse of sound for broadcast sports. The CL-1 is also housed in a well build metal box which makes it very durable.

Bought an SM7b mic, brought it home and even with phantom power couldn't get enough out of the new mic. A friend recommended the cloud lifter and I ordered it right away. Could not BELIEVE the difference in ultra clean volume increase i got out of this thing. I'm not a techy guy and i don't know WHY this thing works but it clearly does and simply. The casing is built like a fricken tank also and you don't plug the thing in to any power source either. BUY IT!

I purchased this for a ribbon microphone. Attaches right on the stand, I have a short XLR cable going between it and the mic. It lived up to it's reputation of provding clean and clear gain, I'm happy.
After doing my initial A/B testing on the ribbon, for kicks, I attached it to a really old Shure dynamic. I kept it around because it's indestructable, but didn't use it much. I was floored by how well the mic sounded on the cloudlifter, brilliant detail, it even picked up whispers. I never expected sound like that from such an old beat-up mic. At some point, I will get a second cloudlifter for this mic, and re-add it to my setup. Wow!
Anyway, it's an ideal unit. Perfect size, perfect price, and construction is very solid. For ribbons or dynamics, this is a must have.

It's real metal. It will definitely outlive the rest of my equipment, and probably me too!
If you have a Grand to buy an AEA preamp, that's awesome. I don't, but this provides a totally workable solution. The signal is clean and adds no color, just gain. You'd have to spend quite a bit to do what this device does.

Very cool piece of gear. Permanent part of my setup now.
I have a budget setup. I bought this instead of buying yet another microphone and another expensive soundcard preamp. Cloudlifter does the job. Microphone signal is much stronger and loud without distortion. Its primary purpose may be to compensate for Ribbon Microphones low output but it makes any microphone sound a lot better. Its also a lot cheaper than of the pro level preamps. This is a cool piece of technology.
Solid steel. Built like a tank. Looks like it will last a long time.
Provide a strong signal for much less than most preamp prices.
