OVERVIEW

Hear what you need to hear clearly without ear-damaging levels or outside distractions.

Direct Sound Extreme Isolation Headphones are used by Terry Bozzio, Shawn Drover of Megadeth, and they're Blue Man group approved. The Direct Sound EX-29 headphones let drummers hear both mix and acoustic drums clearly at ear-saving levels. Now drummers can record "live" drums right next to their mixers; Front-Of-House engineers can monitor comfortably during live performances; studio musicians can finally hear the cue mix over loud instruments; engineers can use them for mic placement, and DJ's can isolate one ear and hear both CD and loudspeakers clearly for beat mixing.

What makes Direct Sound EX-29 sound isolation headphones so extreme? Specially designed earmuffs passively attenuate surrounding sound by a comfortable average of 28 decibels throughout the sound spectrum. With custom-fitted speaker assembly, the speakers are designed to protect your eardrums from damage and improve your recording and performance experience.

A frequency range of 20Hz-20kHz and advanced an-isotropic magnet drivers offer superior fidelity and sensitivity. Direct Sound EX-29 Extreme headphones fold for easy storage. Convenient dual cords are worn behind the head, which prevents them from interfering with your hands or instruments.

Not just for drummers, Direct Extreme Isolation Headphones are great for project studios, stage and studio musicians, sound engineers or for solitude at home.

I use this to play my drums with my iPod. This was bought to replace using a combination of iPod earbuds and over-the-ear sound dampening earphones which was NOT comfortable but allowed the perfect mix of iPod music to drums without killing my ears. These EX-29's sound WAY better than the earbuds and are WAY more comfortable, however they do not lower the volume of the drums as much. From all my research, the EX-29's are the best product out there for my application, however I wish they made some that had a higher decible reduction. Also, if you move your head while wearing them, they tend to let in alot more noise presumabely because the seal is broken around the ear... I find it a challenge to hold my head still while drumming! Overall I am pleased and WOULD buy them again, and would upgrade to higher decible reduction if they made them.

I use these for live shows\pracitce and find them to do the trick. Expecially helpful when stage monitor mix just doesn't cut it. Sound isolation is good...sometimes too extreme....but if you play hard rock]metal or any extremly loud music, they will do great.

However....i find the contruction cheezy. Lots of plastic...and sort of flimbsy. In fact...be just a little rough with them...and the they break loose from the headphones.
In terms of the sound quality, disappointed with the lack of kick or low end that can be pushed though these. (or just maybe i'm just deaf now ...so i have to turn everything up louder than most bandmembers....prob not MY pair of Sony MDR's sound TONS BETTER and are MUCH MORE DURABLE...and yes i would use them..but the isoation is not strong enough..

The cord is also kind of cheesy...i'm waiting for it to break anyday....(i've had these for a couple of years...and have used them at least a hundred times.)

Bottom line: They serve me well... But I'd expect more considering the price

Comments about Direct Sound EX-29 Extreme Isolation Headphones:

I had two pairs of these headphones the quality is awful. The first pair i had the end of the jack fell out and got stuck in my iPod. The second pair I had, I left in the car and they melted so i had to hot glue them together later on they just fell apart. The headphones aren't even attached completely which is dumb.

Comments about Direct Sound EX-29 Extreme Isolation Headphones:

I've been playing drums for 10+ years and I'm fairly gentle with my equipment. The headset suddenly snapped in half and I'm very disappointed since it costed twice as much as the Vic Firth I was replacing.. I'm going back to Vic Firth - that headset lasted much longer.

I bought a pair for the sound booth to isolate noise while checking the mix levels on a camera feed. After one week the drummer took them over and loves them, wishes they had a volume control. I bought a second pair for the sound booth only. They work great.

Comments about Direct Sound EX-29 Extreme Isolation Headphones:

I am a drummer of 20 years and these headphones have been a great addition to my full band rehearsals, recording, running sound and personal practicing. Normally I am using these headphones with a full mix of the whole band or personal practice with minus play along tracks. I also like that the cord is not a helix (coiled).

I have found that the "Samson C Que 8 Four Channel Headphone Amplifier" works very well with these headphones. To get a tight seal with these remember to remove any baseball cap or glasses, it will make a big difference for you.

These headphones have brought me many hours of quality use and continue to aid in my learning experience and I now have a pair for each member of the band.

Great product, great price and made in the United States of America!

Comments about Direct Sound EX-29 Extreme Isolation Headphones:

My five year old EX-29 headphones broke the afternoon of June 13, 2013. Since I use these phones nearly everyday, I called Direct Sound and learned that these headphones, at that time made (2008) in Asia were actually defective. Within 24 hours the company had an updated head band (now made in the USA) sent to me without charge via Priority Mail. I call that exceptional service.

While I was at one time active in the recording studios in Nashville, I now use the headphones to suppress the sound of a grand piano, or the vacuum cleaner, or the heat pump in the room where I listen to CDs and DVDs on my portable players. I get suppression nearly equal to that which I get with my top of the line Silencio and RCBS hearing protection muffs designed for the shooting range. The EX-29 headphones are very comfortable to wear over my rather large ears, and the pads seal very well over the stems of my eyeglasses.

Comments about Direct Sound EX-29 Extreme Isolation Headphones:

The new Incrediflex headband which has a red sleeve under the top headband cover can be squeezed to fit tighter. The new headband has memory. Just remove the headband per the headband instruction PDF on the parts page (no tools needed) and squeeze the headband tighter if you need more isolation. For less isolation pull the headband outward. Replace the headband and you are good to go! Email the the company. They are very helpfull. This is probably the best isolation on the market, made in the USA, affordable, and completely field repairable.

Comments about Direct Sound EX-29 Extreme Isolation Headphones:

I purchased these for the purpose of listening to audio tracks while playing my acoustic drum set.

Everything is perfect other than the fact that they did not provide enough hearing protection from the kit noise. After just 15 minutes of playing, my ears were ringing so much I had to stop. The snare and cymbals cut through almost without isolation.

Since hearing protection is the purpose of the purchase, and that is what the manufacturer claims these are made for, I can not recommend these for that purpose.

Sound quality was average, but flat. Now flat is good if you want to use these for monitoring and mixing sound. But there are better mixing headphones out there for the price.

I really wanted for these to work, as they are of great quality construction and made in the USA with all replaceable parts.

Just not for my drumming needs. Gotta protect my ears.

I've had these a couple years, they fit well and reduce the sound of my quite loud drums enough to practice along with an MP3 player. the cord failed not long after I bought them, I contacted the manufacturer, the owner of the company responded, sent me a new one and asked I share my good experience. nice gesture but the second cord failed at the wiring in the plug and they are unusable. the earpieces are peeling off as well. good customer service, however I will not buy another pair, the price isn't in line with the quality. if these were better quality they wouldn't need replaceable parts.
