OVERVIEW

The PR-30 is the perfect replacement for 30-year-old condenser technology.

The Heil Sound PR-30 is a professional dynamic microphone designed for applications that require a smooth, flat output from a wide frequency response (40Hz-18kHz). Whether it's commercial broadcast, studio recording, or live sound reinforcement, the PR-30 mic can handle it. A specially designed magnet structure and large, aluminum 1-1/2" low-mass voice coil assembly make this possible. In addition to a carefully wound and placed humbucking coil, the components of the PR-30 are engineered to minimize external noise and provide pure articulation. A unique dual pop screen design ensures that breath blasts never hit the diaphragm directly. The result of all this is a perfect representation of the voice that is virtually unpolluted by external noise.

FEATURES
  • Large 1-1/2" aluminum diaphragm

Amazing Mic

By Silvertung

Comments about Heil Sound PR 30 Large Diaphragm Multipurpose Dynamic Microphone:

I was in the market for a new mic to go with my Krank Revolution 1, and I wanted to get something that could accuratley reproduce the awesome tone of my amp live as well as in the studio. I tried 15 different mics from the good old SM57 and Sennheiser E609 to a few higher dollar condensors that could handle live spl. levels. The PR30 flat out destroyed everything else I put it up against. I think this is the best mic out there for guitar amps. I bought a SKB hard case for it to keep it nice and safe between performances. It is one of my favorite peices of gear now. I cherish it. Don't hesitate to go out and get one.

Using the Heil PR30 Live

By Lozelle

from Seal Rock, Orgeon

Comments about Heil Sound PR 30 Large Diaphragm Multipurpose Dynamic Microphone:

I bought the PR30 in 2006 after I did my last CD and was turned on to it by pros Stephen Hodges and George Friend. By its size and rich output, I first thought it was a condenser, but it turned out to be a great dynamic mic with super powers.I've used the PR30 live for vocals and acoustic (racked) harp ever since, played indoors and out, in different environments from dry SoCal to wet Oregon and Florida. No other mic I have used outside the studio reproduces acoustic harp so well . . . where the harp usually sounds thin and trebly when in the rack, with the Heil it has a full sound, with rich mids and bottom that get bigger the closer you are to the mic face, so it's easy to control while performing. It's a road warrior?I do between 70-120 gigs a year and after 4 years, it's still goin' strong.

Lifesaving Vocal Mic

By J. Greene

from White Plains, N.Y.

Comments about Heil Sound PR 30 Large Diaphragm Multipurpose Dynamic Microphone:

Recording vocals had for me also become seemingly hopeless and nightmarish as a result of the presence of baffling distortion that was only audible at low playback levels and not while recording. My condenser mic (Rode NT1-A)was overdriving my preamp (Presonus Blue Tube Dual Path)? It seems so, but it was the Heil PR-30, not the Shure SM7B, that I turned to and that seems to have saved my sorry home-recording you-know-what. (Why the PR-30 and not the SM7B?: Aside from being cheaper, the PR-30 has a wider, flatter frequency response, judging from the specs.) When I sang what's left of my heart out into the PR-30 and played it back, not only was the distortion conspicuously absent if not completely eliminated, the vocal track (never mind my voice) sounded brilliant. Only one, small, not-even-a-complaint: this mic seems very sensitive to vibration through the stand using the supplied stand adaptor.

Heil PR30

Comments about Heil Sound PR 30 Large Diaphragm Multipurpose Dynamic Microphone:

This is a smooth mic, if you are a musician who grew up in live situations and prefer a dynamic microphone which performs at the quality level of a Condenser or Ribbon. This is a good choice. You can mike your bass drum, Stand up bass, Cello, Acoustic guitar or vocals with quality results. I have an assortment of vintage and new microphones and I am glad I got this mic. The only thing I do not like about it is that it does not come with a case or mic bag. I brought this up to Bob Heil (?I think a mic for this price should come with a case?). Apparently it fell upon deaf ears. If it were not for the fact that I love this mike I would have returned it.

Heil knows what sounds good

By Mark Holden

from Los Angeles, CA

Comments about Heil Sound PR 30 Large Diaphragm Multipurpose Dynamic Microphone:

I have owned the PR-30, PR-20, and PR-40 for about a year now and they are all exceptional dynamic Mics. Mr. Heil takes a novel approach to designing his mics. He listens! I have used the PR-30 in the studio on snare, toms, and guitar cabs with excellent results. I have also used it for sax at our live gigs and won't ever go back to a 57. Thanks Bob!

Comments about Heil Sound PR 30 Large Diaphragm Multipurpose Dynamic Microphone:

NOTE: The "Heil PR30B" simply means the black version of these...which is what we purchased, but I wanted to include the same review:

We auditioned these mics on our live church choir which is about 100 people (give or take) per Sunday. Using 3 of these mics (left, center, and right), we also taped 3 Neumann KM184 up against them and were able to A/B the 2 sets of mics with the same gain staging and output. The Heil microphones were an obvious winner against the Neumann's on how big and loud I could get the choir to sound before feedback. I own a pair of the KM184 myself and were expecting them to win for this application, but the Heil mics seemed to have more noise rejection, therefore allowing for more output before feedback. The "size" and "bigness" of these mics also were better for the choir, and the members said they could "feel" a big difference on stage (in favor of the Heil) when I switched back and forth between the 2 different mics. I made some people listen blind, not knowing which mic I had on, and every time the consensus was the Heil. The Neumann are great mics, but for a live choir, I will always recommend these to people now that I have tested them head to head.

PR 30 good for acoustic instruments

Comments about PR 30 Large Diaphragm Multipurpose Dynamic Microphone:

Using the PR30s to replace SM57s for banjo, resonator guitar, mandolin and fiddle in a bluegrass/old-time music group. It has an "airy" feel to it, as opposed to the SM57. Both the fiddle and banjo players love'em! They are easy to EQ (I keep'em flat most of the time) and don't feedback as easily as a condenser mic would. They are very dynamic and don't color or muffle the tone of the instruments. So far, so good!
