Comments about Heil Sound PR 30 Large Diaphragm Multipurpose Dynamic Microphone:
I bought the PR30 in 2006 after I did my last CD and was turned on to it by pros Stephen Hodges and George Friend. By its size and rich output, I first thought it was a condenser, but it turned out to be a great dynamic mic with super powers.I've used the PR30 live for vocals and acoustic (racked) harp ever since, played indoors and out, in different environments from dry SoCal to wet Oregon and Florida. No other mic I have used outside the studio reproduces acoustic harp so well . . . where the harp usually sounds thin and trebly when in the rack, with the Heil it has a full sound, with rich mids and bottom that get bigger the closer you are to the mic face, so it's easy to control while performing. It's a road warrior?I do between 70-120 gigs a year and after 4 years, it's still goin' strong.
Comments about Heil Sound PR 30 Large Diaphragm Multipurpose Dynamic Microphone:
Recording vocals had for me also become seemingly hopeless and nightmarish as a result of the presence of baffling distortion that was only audible at low playback levels and not while recording. My condenser mic (Rode NT1-A)was overdriving my preamp (Presonus Blue Tube Dual Path)? It seems so, but it was the Heil PR-30, not the Shure SM7B, that I turned to and that seems to have saved my sorry home-recording you-know-what. (Why the PR-30 and not the SM7B?: Aside from being cheaper, the PR-30 has a wider, flatter frequency response, judging from the specs.) When I sang what's left of my heart out into the PR-30 and played it back, not only was the distortion conspicuously absent if not completely eliminated, the vocal track (never mind my voice) sounded brilliant. Only one, small, not-even-a-complaint: this mic seems very sensitive to vibration through the stand using the supplied stand adaptor.
Comments about Heil Sound PR 30 Large Diaphragm Multipurpose Dynamic Microphone:
This is a smooth mic, if you are a musician who grew up in live situations and prefer a dynamic microphone which performs at the quality level of a Condenser or Ribbon. This is a good choice. You can mike your bass drum, Stand up bass, Cello, Acoustic guitar or vocals with quality results. I have an assortment of vintage and new microphones and I am glad I got this mic. The only thing I do not like about it is that it does not come with a case or mic bag. I brought this up to Bob Heil (?I think a mic for this price should come with a case?). Apparently it fell upon deaf ears. If it were not for the fact that I love this mike I would have returned it.
Comments about Heil Sound PR 30 Large Diaphragm Multipurpose Dynamic Microphone:
I was in the market for a new mic to go with my Krank Revolution 1, and I wanted to get something that could accuratley reproduce the awesome tone of my amp live as well as in the studio. I tried 15 different mics from the good old SM57 and Sennheiser E609 to a few higher dollar condensors that could handle live spl. levels. The PR30 flat out destroyed everything else I put it up against. I think this is the best mic out there for guitar amps. I bought a SKB hard case for it to keep it nice and safe between performances. It is one of my favorite peices of gear now. I cherish it. Don't hesitate to go out and get one.
Comments about Heil Sound PR 30 Large Diaphragm Multipurpose Dynamic Microphone:
I have owned the PR-30, PR-20, and PR-40 for about a year now and they are all exceptional dynamic Mics. Mr. Heil takes a novel approach to designing his mics. He listens! I have used the PR-30 in the studio on snare, toms, and guitar cabs with excellent results. I have also used it for sax at our live gigs and won't ever go back to a 57. Thanks Bob!
