The Heil Sound PR40 is a full-range dynamic microphone designed with the ability to reproduce frequencies as low as 28Hz, ideal for live sound, recording, and broadcast applications. The unique, copper-wound voice coil uses a mixed metallic magnet structure that creates a magnetic field 10 times stronger than most mics. Coupled with a large 1-1/2", low-mass, quilted aluminum diaphragm, this makes for tremendous low-frequency response and low distortion throughout the PR40 mic's wide frequency range. A unique dual pop screen design ensures that breath blasts never hit the diaphragm directly.

This is truly one killer mic. Yes, I actually purchased it and have used it from vox, to acoustic to bass and even drums. It's very smooth across the board and natural which is rare for a mice that doesn't even require phantom power. Get a pop screen too (duh)..
And if that isn't enough, in Hollywood they strap these bad boys on cannons to record the cannon fire.

This is a GREAT Mic. I have used it for live micing kick drum , bass amp , cajone, and bari sax. It excelled in each application. I have also used it in the studio for voice over commercial recording with much success. Heil makes fantastic microphones.

I'd rate this product as perfect if it had better pop reduction as advertised. For perfectionists, a screen is still required for recording vocals. Acoustic and electric guitar recording is strong, but not as warm as I had thought it would be. High frequency response for vocals and even frequency response is very strong. I just can't compare this to condenser mics having used dynamics exclusively.
The mic has no obvious features but claims internal pop reduction. It is good, but some "p's" and "b's" will pop at a performance distance in recording.
High quality.
Hard to tell without comparing several mics. I've used other dynamics, and this one seems to be a notch above with respect to even frequency response.

I am a internet radio host, Compared to condensers, I can never really tell the difference with this mic. The sound is crisp, clear and breathtaking. Sounds great on the air. It is never in its case, Because I am always using it!

After trying numerous condenser mic's, some at twice the price, I keep coming back to the PR40. Clear, rich, clean sound with no post-production futzing around. All the raves about this mic are absolutely justified. For voice-over and narration there is nothing better, except maybe at ten times the price, and even then I'm not so sure. Lacks low-cut and pad switches, but so what? I can't comment on other applications, but for VO this mic is simply unbeatable.

I have used this mic on kick drum, digeridoo and standup bass. On the bass and digeridoo the bass response was lower than any other mic I have used. On kick drum the lows are tight and well defined, gives great low punch to the kick and still picks up the click of the beater.

I got this mic a few weeks back and it barely spends anytime in it's case. This mic is perfect for voice, and is remarkable on kick drum, guitar, and even bass cabinet. I want three more of these. Clean, crisp (but not too over-defined) high-end, tight low end, easily blows away all the dynamic mics (and a few condensers) that cost hundreds more.

I bought this product after hearing it on another podcast thinking it raised the quality of the audio at a reasonable price point. After using it to record a wide range voice work I decided to try it out to record some vocal tracks, with several different artist I record for, they won't use any other mic now! I know a mic is a very personal choice but your selling yourself short if you don't give the PR-40 serious consideration it is a excellent mic.

This is the best mic I have ever been on. I have been too many studios in the past and have not liked my voice but this mic really upped it for me. It is very clear and crisp and I can even here myself swallow from a distance. I think every artist should have one of these
