Live Wire Solutions

Passive DI gives you level control to tame hot signals from high output instruments.

The SPDI passive direct box from Live Wire Solutions features a 1/4" high impedance instrument input and output plus balanced and floating low-impedance XLR output that ignores +48V phantom power.

Variable attenuation provides maximum input flexibility, while Lift mode severs ground connection between the input and the XLR output. GND mode leaves ground connection intact between input and XLR output.

Features

  • 1/4" high impedance input and throughput
  • Balanced XLR output
  • Ground lift switch
  • 0/-20/-40 dB attenuation switch
  • Heavy duty, all-steel chassis
  • Rubber skid pad

Does what it's supposed to do.

Features:

Attenuation pad is a nice xtra.

Quality:

Solid. Metal case, rubber pad on bottom, should last a long time. Use it in my studio at home and to send the output from my bass to the PA and my amp on gigs. Works great in both applications.

Value:

You could pay a lot more and not get anything better.

Overall:

Good quality construction, good strong signal, quiet. Great buy for the bucks.

Awesome Direct Box

Features:

Ground lift sw. & attenuator are great additions to this VERY inexpensive direct box. I perform in a very electrically noisy environment and this thing really shields out that noise, both 60 cycle & RF interference is non exesitant.

I also use this as an interface to plug my guitar into my computer's mic jack. It matches the impedance perfectly & cuts out all the noise even when using a 20' guitar cable.

Quality:

Built like a tank. You won't crush this in your Roadie bag. Well built, even has a LARGE non skid pad on the bottom.

Value:

Can't beat the price here either. Only one other that's more inexpensive & it's usually out of stock.

Overall:

Musician's Friend's customer support is fantastic! Very fast shipping too.

Used this box at our church to interface the audio from a DVD player to the sound system while showing music videos. Has a wide frequency response, bass response is excellent (music videos are a good test for bass response). It's in a heavy steel case with a three-position input attenuator switch and a ground lift switch. Two paralleled 1/4" input jacks and an XLR male output jack. If we need more DI boxes in the future, this is the one we'll get.

Simple. Well built.  Effective. Periodically I experience ground loop hum depending on the venue.  I keep one of these in my bag of tricks to resolve.
