OVERVIEW

Passive DI gives you level control to tame hot signals from high output instruments.

The SPDI passive direct box from Live Wire Solutions features a 1/4" high impedance instrument input and output plus balanced and floating low-impedance XLR output that ignores +48V phantom power.

Variable attenuation provides maximum input flexibility, while Lift mode severs ground connection between the input and the XLR output. GND mode leaves ground connection intact between input and XLR output.

FEATURES
  • 1/4" high impedance input and throughput
  • Balanced XLR output
  • Ground lift switch
  • 0/-20/-40 dB attenuation switch
  • Heavy duty, all-steel chassis

Bought two of these to solve a ground loop problem between a Rocktron tube pre-amp and ADA tube head in my guitar rack. There was a very faint but annoying 60 cycle hum present I had been living with for years and these DI boxes eliminated it completely. My amp is now dead quiet for the first time EVER. BUT -- I did notice an attenuation of the signal from the pre-amp into the amp inputs, even with the DI boxes set to zero on the attenuation pad. About 20%actually, definitely enough to notice. I had to increase the output signal from my pre-amp and bump up the high end slightly to compensate, no problem after doing that. I have not used passive DI boxes much so this is probably a "feature" of the passive design and to be expected. Otherwise, they work great, built sturdy and a great value overall.

The pad sw in my unit was intermittently passing/not passing signal in the 0db position. I fixed the problem by removing the sw from the case and filing the rectangle opening a bit longer to allow the sw to fully lock into it's 0db position. It's cheaply made but does it's job and sounds fine for live work.

Comments about Livewire SPDI Passive Direct Box with Attenuation Pad:

This unit does exactly what I need it to do. I use it to record bass in my home studio. It works great. It changes the high impedance output of the bass so that I can plug into my low independence input on my DA interface. Great product for the price.

Comments about Livewire SPDI Passive Direct Box with Attenuation Pad:

I bought two of these for live, duo acoustic performances. I spent time trying to find a pair for our guitars that wouldn't break my bank and should hold up and do what I needed them for. I am very impressed with them. I use a ibanez pf series acoustic with a rosette positioned pick up that's removable. It sounds amazing!! The acoustic feel and sound is amazing and still sounds natural through the pa. If your gigging with out one of these and are in the market, buy! I have used these multiple times now for hours at a time and so far I have had no issues.

Comments about Livewire SPDI Passive Direct Box with Attenuation Pad:

It does the job for which I bought it - reducing the hum gremlins, but drops the volume more than I would like. Overall worthwhile.

I wished to eliminate mid range twang from my guitar, without using mixer, for small appearances.

Customer Service recommended a Direct Box. Did no meet expectations

Comments about Livewire SPDI Passive Direct Box with Attenuation Pad:

Bought and used 3 boxes when found out our venue only had XLR and we had to wire up an acoustic guitar, bass guitar, and electronic drumkit (instrument cable output). Plugged them in and all 3 worked fine with Ground Lift off and 0db attenuation. Sounded clean. No issues. Only used once so far so cannot comment on long-term durability, but boxes were metal and seemed solid.

Comments about Livewire SPDI Passive Direct Box with Attenuation Pad:

I've been using this with a Tech 21 Character Series pedal, as I recently had some gigs in spots where it would have been a pain to haul an amp along. (Yes, you can plug the Tech 21s in direct with the 1/4" jack, but I have some pedals running after the amp emulator, so I thought it would be best to use a DI.)

Boxes like these are underappreciated heroes. The LiveWire did its job reliably and delivered great sound quality, for a lovely price. Cheers.
