Comments about MXL V69 Mogami Edition Tube Microphone:
I've had this mic a couple of years and love it; listing the things I love about it are:
- Great isolation that prevents a great deal of mic bleed experienced with other mics. I've recorded with it in situations where I could hardly hear myself over a loud guitar amp that was 5 feet away and on the play back, the blarring guitar could hardly be heard.
I've also used it for a variety of other applications such as acoustic guitar and overhead drum mic'ing. Stick an SM-57 or SM-58 with the ball off in the cone of your amp and set the V69 2-3 feet behind the SM (picked up a couple of Sennhiesser e609's recently; not tested fully yet. Will say that preliminary results of just tinkering shows that the e609 on it's own is a killer lil mic.) and I have never seen a more accurate reproduction of sound in my 25+ years recording.
The V69 in conjuction with the MXL CR24 Studio Kit's Large Diaphragm mic, equi-distance from the center point of the floor tom and snare (overhead) has produced the most amazing drum recordings; no need for micing every single drum. Cymbals aren't too bright and the results? I can only say, try a similar arrangement yourself and see if it works in your environement.
- Dynamic range... forget about what's on paper, the proof is in the pudding.
I take reviews with a grain of salt to a certain degree, because most people don't know how to actually setup properly and set the levels appropriately (-6db on the VU's please and proper room treatments, hello; give the engineer enough headroom for post and final compression during mastering.). Garbage in garbage out (GIGO).
- Warmth and depth are pristine; no doubt due to the tube. I find the low end response to be a major plus.

Comments about MXL V69 Mogami Edition Tube Microphone:
This mic gives great sound for the price. I have had mine for over a couple years and have had zero issues. Recorded well over 200 songs with it and it still works just as good as it did when it was new. Always remember to let your tube mic warm up before use.
Comments about MXL V69 Mogami Edition Tube Microphone:
worth its price
Yea it has 24kt. gold , but thats not the reason for the price of this mc. The quality is well worth it ,most ppl i knowhave mics that cost half this but i got this one and you can tell the differenc no matter the amp , just turn knobs on your eq and setup how you want it, I been using it for 3 years. Im now upgrading to neumann tlm-103 but in this price zone the v69 has gotta be at the top of the list maybe not #1 but all around its great especially because of the tube inside of it.
Comments about MXL V69 Mogami Edition Tube Microphone:
Absolutely awesome sounding mic.
Had a lot of issues with it at first, trying to get the ground looping to stop. Eventually I just lifted the ground on the mic, problem solved.
Occassionally it gets a little "too airy", which is a minor issue, it tends to happen when you leave it on for too long.
Regardless, amazing sounding microphone. Great price for quality. I highly reccomend it.
Comments about MXL V69 Mogami Edition Tube Microphone:
I've used this mic for a number of years now and have never been disappointed. I've used this mic on many instruments and vocals in many different genres. It provides a warmth and texture that's hard to find. My favorite use is to hang it upside down right over a very accurate mic like the Rode NT1A and mix the signals to get just the right sound.
Comments about MXL V69 Mogami Edition Tube Microphone:
I have 6 high end (nuemann, akg, etc) mics, and this is the best one, by far, when recording rappers. Smooth highs, and nice bass, it's well worth the cost...
Comments about MXL V69 Mogami Edition Tube Microphone:
i have had this mic for about 3 months now, and i have had to replace the shock mount 3 times. the nut snaps off without even attempting to twist it in a manner you could call rough. the microphone itself always receives feedback even when no amps are on. you can barely get the feedback to stop. the first week i had it , it performed beautifully. now it sucksthis quality blows.
Comments about MXL V69 Mogami Edition Tube Microphone:
This mic is an amazing microphone. I researched this mic before purchasing and found it worthy of purchase. I have used this mic mostly on vocals and it has been incredible. I just recently for fun tried it on my hi hats and man the real voicing and warmth was revealed. The entire brilliance and duplication of the kit was perfect. I did however change the tube in this mic from the MXL to a Mullard 12ax7. I would put this mic against mics costing five times as much. My rig is 2x's Fireface 800, Cubase 4, I also have Audix i5's x 4 and a D6, Rode NT1A and pacific by DW all birch fusion Kit, Fender Jazz Bass 5str Ibanez custom Jazz. I have a whole bunch of other stuff too. Get this Mic its worth every dime. Glod Bless
