I tried this based off of reviews. My band practices really loud it seems to overcome a powerful acoustic drummer. Drummer cant hear amps unless they are at earsplitting levels, and the places we practice are small, so ringing in ears is always a problem. ear plugs kinda work but just muffle everything, and are no fun. So I bought this, mic'd up, and used ear buds that you can jam in your ears not just rest outside of them. It was truly awesome. I could hear myself clearly and still hear everyone else by just turning up or down my headphone level. My amp was loud, but I could only really hear it out of my headphones. And it was a a clear enough signal for me. After practice, absolutely no ringing in my ears. Haven't used it live yet, but I will and even if the mic through doesn't work, I will just run another mic to the mixer. It truly was a joy to practice being able to hear myself like I was jamming along to a CD or MP3 through the computer. I would highly recommend this off of today's practice.

In a nutshell, these monitor boxes are nice for low-budget users, but for anyone who demands a clean and clear sound, stay away from these. As a combined MON/FOH operator, I appreciate the fact that people can add more or less of themselves without bothering me, but that's all they can do. While it relieves some duties from me, the quality loss both in the talent's ears as well as the pass-thru signal is completely not worth it.Yes, that's correct, I said loss of quality for the pass-thru signal. With these boxes, that talent's instrument passes thru each box and then into the snake, thus making EVERY INSTRUMENT pass thru one of these boxes. I notice distortion on the keyborads, loss of fatness from the bass, a guitars that sound tinny and empty.I've tried E1s, E3s, E4s, and Sony MDR's; same results. The limited on these is weak and cannot be trusted. I blew a pair of personal E4s i have used for months; one plug into the drummer's rolls, 30 seconds later the left ear blows and higher SPL distorts. I have removed all of these from our stage set-up and WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN. I hope this review helps.

Comments about Rolls PM50S Personal Monitor Amp:

As a personal In ear mositor driver for a hardwired system this is the best bang for the buck on the market. I have used Rolls products since the 90's and every one of them is still working. The knobs might fall off and the jacks are cheapo etc but they keep on going and are easy to repair if they do break.
My main concern was degrading of my mike signal with the pass through or adding noise.. No, I tested it in the studio and it seems 100% clean.
I mounted mine on my mike stand with some snap ties and my Shure IE cable is just the right length. If I need to go farther I just un plug them. So nice to have the band mix and my vocal mike easily mixed right there in front of my nose.
I'm going to order a couple more to use for recording ourselves. THe perfect solution to everyone having more "me" in the headphones.

Took me a while to figure out how to switch from mono to stereo. Other than that it's a great little amp for in ear monitor system. You can control your own mic level using its pass thru xlr input output feature.

Comments about Rolls PM50S Personal Monitor Amp:

I've been using one of these for several years now. I'm a drummer and also sing lead. I use this with a single Shure SE215 in-ear monitor. I've searched for years for a workable monitor solution. All of which have been subject to room acoustics, feedback and lack of space. I can't tell you how much bang for the buck you get with this. You have the option of hearing just your own mic or can balance it with a line out from the mixer. This product has made singing consistently enjoyable and removes the anxiety about whether I'm going to hear myself today or not... If you're a drummer in a fixed location, BUY IT! I'm serious. I bought a second one with the battery option as well. The Rolls, with the SE215s exceed the benefit on any other two single pieces of gear that I've ever purchased in 38 years of playing music. Now when I play gigs with a house systems, I just tell the sound engineer, "you can turn my monitor off, I don't need it". Simple to use, sets up quickly and is built tough. Great piece of gear!

Comments about Rolls PM50S Personal Monitor Amp:

I play drums and sing bgv and an in-ear monitor is a must. I purchased this Rolls PM50 S to replace my old Shure PSM 400 hard wired in-ear monitor that I have had and used for nearly 15 years.
I was immediately impressed by the sound quality as it actually sounds better than my old Shure system. With my old Shure PSM 400 I had to replace batteries all the time so I eventually "rewired" it with a wall wart adapter. The Rolls comes with a wall wart power supply and no place for a battery which is perfect for me.
For less than fifty clams I replaced my old monitor ($500+) with a superior sounding product. I still use the Shure ear buds but you have the choice of 1/8" or 1/4" output jack for whatever headphones you want to use and they can be used simultaneously, handy if someone else needs to hear your mix.
