Perfection

Comments about Sennheiser evolution e906 Dynamic Guitar Amp Microphone:

Ever sense I first started using a 57 for guitar cabs I've hated it. Finally I started searching for something better that didn't over emphasize the highs and color the sound. I also looked at the 609 which to me was just a more convenient 57. This mic is perfect, I use two of them three times a week and it was the best investment I've made to my mic locker. Since the shows I work at have as many as 6 bands, I don't really worry too much about mic placement and I still only have to use minimal eq. The sound is almost always perfect, unless of course the guitarist is a bafoon.

A great mic for short dough

Comments about Sennheiser evolution e906 Dynamic Guitar Amp Microphone:

I own a live recording studio where performance of a mic is paramount, especially for guitars. I received my E906 about a month ago and have used it on 3 live recordings of 3 different bands under 3 seperate sets of conditions, 1. rehearsal studio, 2. Live Soundstage, 3. Small club with close proximity to all other insturments. The performance of this mic has been nothing short of stellar. Every guitar is clear and captures the exact sound coming off of the speakers. I'm impressed with this little jewel as it's performed beyond my expectations...I'm buying 2 more!!!

Worth the price

Comments about Sennheiser evolution e906 Dynamic Guitar Amp Microphone:

I purchased this mic to amp my 59 bassman reissue amp into a Bose PAS system. The mic does an amazing job. My bandmate currently uses the Sennheiser 609 and I felt that the 906 produced a better sound that was worth the extra price.

perfect

Comments about Sennheiser evolution e906 Dynamic Guitar Amp Microphone:

We use these at our contemporary service at my church. We have them in isolation cabs too which is nice but anyways back to the mic. The e906 is just flat out perfect for us electric players. It picks the sound out well and really keeps the sound clear unlike alot of mics that can sound muffled at times. The sound quality truely is remarkable. It picks up the tone that comes out of your speaker, with out coloring it, and allows it to come through clearly in the PA. Suprisingly enough, the tone was even more killer when i finally used it strait up to my moded hot rod deluxe rather than from an isolation cab. I could go on about how much i love this mic. overall: Well priced, Great build and sound quality, and Highly Recommended!

Comments about Sennheiser evolution e906 Dynamic Guitar Amp Microphone:

Wow. That is really all I have to say. First off, I have been recording for about 5 years now, and while that may not seem like a lot, the number of microphones I have gone through is. This microphone gives me the most accurate representation of my original tone without sacrificing anything. I used barely ANY equalizing in post-production. I gave this a 5 for features because the presence switch is great. It gave my tone great presence without tapping out the highs and giving that razor sound that can be harsh on a mix. It made the overall sound so much warmer and pleasing to edit with. Basically, if you can come across one of these mics, don't pass it up.

Comments about Sennheiser evolution e906 Dynamic Guitar Amp Microphone:

Buy this mic! I've used SM57's and Beta 57's and even the e609 before and have always been just short of what I thought was 'the perfect guitar sound'...until I bought this mic!Placement is EVERYTHING, but with this you have that AND the dip switch that offers hi-cut, flat or hi-boost to tailor the frequency response to a given situation. My guitar tone has NEVER been so good! Thanks Sennheiser!

e906 - Pretty Decent

Comments about Sennheiser evolution e906 Dynamic Guitar Amp Microphone:

The Sennheiser e906 is a good mic to have whenever you go out and play or head into the studio to work. I have likes and dislikes with this mic. I wouldn't get rid of this mic for any reason, but I would defiantly have other mics on hand as well. Recording guitar cabs with this mic seems to be pretty painless but I would strongly recommend putting another mic next to it. It works well with blending other mics with it. I usually blend it with an SM57. then put a condenser above the cab to get the room and it's a good pace to start. On a side note, I find this mic works for fender amps.I have to say the e609 might be slightly better. I think there is a padding that was added to the e906 to make the 906 and I think it changes the dynamic of the mic for worse. The 609 that I used was a little more honest. Both mics work on the tops of snare drums too. But once again. I suggest having another mic blended with it. On snares, put the other mic on the bottom. In closing, it's a good mic to have. I would recommend it, but have backups. Take a look at the e906 as well.

Great value mic!

By ecstasteve

Comments about Sennheiser evolution e906 Dynamic Guitar Amp Microphone:

I agree with the other reviewers that say it DOES NOT COLOR YOUR TONE!! what you hear is what you get with proper mic placement. I have been using '57's for years like everyone else and wanted to try something else so after a lot of research i settled on the e906. the filter switch does its job and is very useful for dialing in the tone of various amp & speaker combinations. I find that my guitar tracks sound much more "alive" than they did with '57's. and the off axis noise rejection IS AWESOME. I have recorded with it in our jam space and get it has excellent separation considering the proximity of the drums & other amps. It also is great recording a lower volumes in my apt. No bleed from the in room acoustic sound of the pick hitting the strings or traffic or all the other things that make it a chore to record a real amp at moderate volumes in less than ideal settings. All in all I think it is a great mic for under $200 that gets very strong clear guitar tones.

A pretty good mic

Comments about Sennheiser evolution e906 Dynamic Guitar Amp Microphone:

I can honestly say this is a good mic...especially for the $$$. I found it works best for me when I pair it up with an SM57. I really like the idea of the built in filters, however, I never seem to have anything on me to switch it when I need to, but I can understand why they went with the countersunk switch. This mic really shined on stage: it let me really crank the guitar without giving me any problems with feedback and still maintained sound quality.

I like this mic

Comments about Sennheiser evolution e906 Dynamic Guitar Amp Microphone:

You can't beat this mic for the money. In a nutshell, it's just easy to use. Stick it in front of a speaker, take a moment to find the sweet spot and you're set. The presence switch is a great feature, very useful. I like this mic better than an SM57, by a wide margin. It doesn't color your sound as much, it's more natural in my opinion. My only nitpick is the construction. It's very light, doesn't feel very durable. The ring that supports/surrounds the mesh is plastic. You definitely don't want to drop it.

Comments about Sennheiser evolution e906 Dynamic Guitar Amp Microphone:

In the band room it sounds awesome. Unlike many of its competitors (SM57 and 421) It does not color the sound at all. It's representation of what is going on at the cabinet is almost entirely pure.

Comments about Sennheiser evolution e906 Dynamic Guitar Amp Microphone:

I use this every week on a single 12" guitar cab. It has nice midrange for the guitar. I have to take out a ton of bass though all the time for the electric. I guess if you use it on a more bass heavy source it would be good too. I have only the complaint of having a lot of midbass. It's better than an SM57 though on the guitar cab. I haven't used many guitar mics, so just use this review for what it's worth. It sounds nice though.

Comments about Sennheiser evolution e906 Dynamic Guitar Amp Microphone:

Sennheiser makes the most versitile microphones in the planet. Even their microphones are versitile. This mic works perfectly on things that aren't even listed on their manual. It works perfectly with guitar cabs so you can get some tape and let it hang. Or you can buy a mini boom stand to set a few inches away from your amp. The sound i get is sharp and clean.

Comments about Sennheiser evolution e906 Dynamic Guitar Amp Microphone:

Let's talk sound first. Sounds similar to a Shure 57. A little brighter and more attack. It has a presents switch to modify the output curve with either more top end or to a smoother sound. Overall the sound quality is great with very little coloration added. The mic only weights a few ounces so supporting it is not a problem. It can be supported by its cable and hang down in front of the cabinet saving the cost of a stand. Not to professional but effective. I don't know how well it would handle getting dropped or other misuse. I don't want to try. It seems to be a good quality product. It is a dynamic mic so no phantom power is required. A little pricey. Has a good output and good off axis rejection. Overall it is a keeper.

Comments about Sennheiser evolution e906 Dynamic Guitar Amp Microphone:

I really enjoy this mic. I had one for about a year then lost it. I tried around with a few others and the only way be that came close was the e609. The e906 just sounded a bit clearer and captured the sound of my amp a bit better with the options it has on it. For a single mic you can slap right in front of your amp (especially when you have to set up quickly) it's perfect. So, I bought another. Just make sure you take time and find the sweet spot on your amp because a 1/4 of and inch makes a difference with this mic.
