Not the best for live perfomance

By J P

from stockton ca.

Comments about Shure Beta 87C Cardioid Condenser Microphone:

This Mic is very difficult to EQ cause it creates to much feed back, you don't don't have to much lead way with it. I would not recommend it for live sound.I prefer maybe the Hale pr22 or pr32

Studio quality live

By Cybertrooth

from Oregon

Comments about Shure Beta 87C Cardioid Condenser Microphone:

I borrowed one of these a while back and liked it a lot, but put off buying because of the price. Now I think I'll get one. What convinced me was watching Patty Griffin on Austin City Limits last night. She sang through one and she sounded exactly the same as on her studio recordings. Easily one of the best-sounding live (on stage) recordings of female vocals that I've ever heard.

The Sound is Thin and Harsh

By hoovie87

from Florida

Comments about Shure Beta 87C Cardioid Condenser Microphone:

These mics tend to have a thin and harsh sound. They also tend to smooth vocals out a lot. By smooth, I mean that the transients sometimes get lost, or smoothed out. This mic is ok if you are using it for speech, but even still it is thin sounding. I would look elsewhere. If you are really an audiophile, you will not be happy with this mic. Check out a VX5 or AE5400 if you want a condenser...you will be glad you took time to check out something other than the big name of Shure! I think Heil mics sound better and they aren't even condensers!

A nice mic

By Dark

from Topeka, Ks

Comments about Shure Beta 87C Cardioid Condenser Microphone:

This microphone is quite nice for vocals both on stage and I'm finding it quite useful in the studio as a vocal (of course, I would advise a large diaphram condensor) and as a snare mic. If you desire to sound good, I would say "get this mic"

You get what you pay for with this Mic

By Scottb722

from Upstate, NY

Comments about Shure Beta 87C Cardioid Condenser Microphone:

I love this mic, the Shure Beta 87c is 50-20,000hz; Sweet highs, smooth lows. Phantom power is required! I think this is one of the best vocal mics out there. The 'c' is perfect for in ear monitors or where feedback needs to be reduced (bad speaker placement not included).
