This is the first version 2.0 of any Spectrasonics instrument, and it's a big one.

Omnisphere is among the elite virtual synthesizer programs for producers, composers, and sound designers; and if you think this monster power synth couldn™t get any better, you™ve just been proven wrong. Introducing Omnisphere 2.0, the first v2.0 of any Spectrasonics instrument and it is truly gigantic!

With Omnisphere 2.0 comes a massive variety of new synthesis options, a staggering audio library with over 10,000 sounds, a new interface with an enhanced sound browsing capability, a new and enhanced arpeggiator, 25 new effects units with flexible attributes, as well as other improvements and specialized features that make Omnipshere 2.0 a very worthy upgrade.

Vast New Synthesis Possibilities
Omnisphere 2.0 comes a vast array of new synthesis possibilities including the ability to import your own audio content as a sound source inside Omnisphere giving you limitless sound creation possibilities using your own sample library. The new Granular Synthesis algorithm will allow you to completely transform the included content or morph your own audio into unimaginable soundscapes. Try changing a smooth Jazz recording into an ethereal soundscape or even a blazing synth lead with just a few parameter tweaks. The possibilities are endless!

Not many people realize, but Omnisphere can also create purely synthetic sounds without using any samples at all. There are now over 400 DSP waveforms for the synth oscillator, which is 100 times more than the original version, and each waveform is now a Morphing Wavetable with vast new possibilities and colors. A patch can have up to 10 oscillators and each oscillator can have its own wavetable, so you can see how complex you can get in your sound designing. Unison has also been improved with new analog drift behavior that makes an ordinary synth sound absolutely huge! Both FM and Ring Modulation can go much deeper than before too. There™s also eight new filter types and expanded modulation features that will shape your sound into exactly what you need, or better yet something you™ve never even imagined!

Now with Over 10,000 Sounds
If you'e wondering about sounds and patches, Omnisphere 2.0 has over 10,000 of them. There are more than 3,000 new patches and Soundsources from the acclaimed Spectrasonics Sound Design Team; a new Omnisphere EDM library with cutting-edge, modern sounds; exclusive Soundsources from Diego Stocco's custom built instruments; a new category of phrase-based Soundsources for granular synthesis; hundreds of new Circuit Bent Soundsources; innovative new Psychoacoustic Soundsources; melodic cave stalactites Soundsources; and so much more.

Spectrasonics has always found the wildest ways to bring new sound content to their instruments, and their Psychoacoustic Soundsources are the core of Omnisphere 2.0™s sonic identity. This includes some of the rarest instruments and objects that have never been sampled before, and they find all kinds of unconventional ways to bow, pluck, strike and excite them using objects like electric toothbrushes, sugar packets, coins, zip ties and more.

Updated Interface with Enhanced Browsing Experience
Omnisphere 2.0 adopts a similar aesthetic to the previous version with the exception of a new wider user interface that hosts many improvements. There™s a new Show Modulation pane that opens to show all the modulation routings/sources right in the interface, and a new Mini-Browser feature is available at all times so you can search for just the right sound or patch to inspire any moment.

In addition to the interface updates, Omnipshere 2.0 features an enhanced browsing experience that makes finding the right content fast and easy. New in v2.0 is a Sound Match feature that instantly locates any related sounds in the library that match the sound you'e currently using. This makes a huge improvement for finding the right sound in the moment. Another exciting new browser feature is Sound Lock, which allows you to lock a specific attribute from a sound as you browse. For example, lock the arpeggiator pattern from a sound you like and it will be applied to every sound you browse through, or lock-in the effects rack from a patch you like and it will be instantly carried over t each new sound as you browse. This is an incredibly easy and fun way to have as many custom variations as you like, and each one is something that no one else will have.

New and Improved Effects
In Omnisphere 2.0 Spectrasonics has dramatically increased the effects rack with 25 new effects including vintage modulation effects, new distortion and classic amp modeling, envelope filtering effects, new studio-grade compressors and equalizers, and some radically new creative effects. There™s also hundreds of new effects presets and racks available for you to pick from, or create your own by stacking up to 16 effects of your choice per patch.

This is a definite must have for any composer, producer, or sound designer. Order today!

A monster of a synth and a must have for anyone involved in scoring films, games or commercials. The quantity and quality of the immense library of sounds it ships with is well worth the price!

Good sounds, but it's hard to get it working, on cubase5.

Excellent, but no good piano or live multi organizer

    By A human

    from USA

    Comments about Spectrasonics Omnisphere 2:

The sounds are amazing. The organization of sounds seems lacking. You can create as many multis as you like (and they hold 8 sounds each) However, even if using live mode with quick access to 8 sounds, I'll need way more than 8 live. It's not that hard to switch multis. However, if would be nice if these was a quick way to access different ones with midi keyboard, particularly because it seems logical to me to have a different multi for each song and only put the sounds in each multi needed for each song. Perhaps I have some learning to do with program, but still racking my brain on how I'm going to set everything up for a live performance, especially since I'll be having different keyboardists using it, and I'd rather not have them worry about operating the program.
I think it's unacceptable that there are no just basic piano sounds. True, you don't buy omnisphere for piano sounds, but if you are buying such a program and want to use it live, it seems silly to have to have a separate plugin in your DAW just so you can have a piano, especially since this is a processor intensive program itself. I'd settle for a mediocre piano sound, I'm not expecting it to give a dedicated Piano sampler pluggin a run for it's money, but at least include one, even if it's not that good.

This synth package has everything you would want to create electronic music, no matter what genre that you're focused on. As a plus, Spectrasonics tech support replied to my emails regarding installation within 24 hours. If you are serious about creating electronic music, you either already have Omnisphere 2 or you will eventually purchase it. This VST is well worth the price.

If I could do it all over again....

    By atomtll

    from Boulder, CO

    Comments about Spectrasonics Omnisphere 2:

...it would have been Ableton Live for my DAW, Maschine Mk2 for my controller (altho I really like Push and it's 64 pads/ chords, it lacks the intuitiveness of Maschine's browsing) and Omnisphere for my SINGLE, ONE & ONLY plugin.
Seriously, now that Spectrasonics added the ability for user sample importation, I feel there's very little this plugin CAN'T DO!!! Absolutely amazing!
Once I got the navigation and MIDI routing down, figuring out how the 8 channels worked together or separately, the power of this thing became evident. They have some great tutorials on their site to get you up and running. I know this is strting to sound like a promo review but really I was just ticked off by the guy who dings this 2 STARS becasue he doesn't understand how file transfer works between a CD/DVD drive and a computer. Clearly somebody whos never installed any NI stuff (Kontakt or Komplete namely).

Great update to an already great product

    By Blue Polo

    from Nashville

    Comments about Spectrasonics Omnisphere 2:

I already was familiar with the original Omnisphere which made it easier to consider Omnisphere 2 (herein referred to as O2) in spite of the the price. Musician's Friend was running a 15% off 4th of July special which helped a lot . O2 adds a good number of new categories and expands existing ones. It will take weeks to discover all the new sounds. If you have any of the ILIO expansion patch libraries from O1 those will work in O2 as well. The browser has been updated but it is familiar enough to jump in with no problems. Patch loading times are noticeably much, much faster which is something I had not read in any reviews. A very pleasant surprise. And overall O2 seems to be taking less CPU usage tho' a bit more RAM (going by ProTools 11 System Usage window). Other user reviews posted here mention problems with the install process. Installation is very straightforward and the webpage that launches when you open the first installer DVD walks you through it pretty well. Authorization was a breeze. I am not sure what other users are experiencing, but I had no problems whatsoever. Just be patient, read (don't scan) the directions and follow them step by step and you should be OK. That said, it does take a few hours to install all 8 DVDs. While not keeping a stopwatch it took about 3+ hours installing on a Mac Pro. A 25% off coupon is included in the box to apply toward an up-charge that gives you access to an online download link, or USB flash drive (still not available at this time). But you have to first install and authorize via the DVDs before you can purchase the download link, or flash drive?!? If you can get past the lengthy install process I don't think you'll be disappointed with the breadth and quality of sounds and overall product performance!

Great Product - Horrible Install: 7+ Hours

    Comments about Spectrasonics Omnisphere 2:

The synth is great for anyone who wants an outstanding synth, no question about it.

I was turned off after opening the box to discover that it takes 7+ hours of attending the installation to feed it the 8 DVD's when required. When you open the box, there is an offer to "purchase" a flash drive with all of the data on it for an additional fee. You will have to wait for it to arrive in the mail. This is absurd. For the price we pay for this product, it should be "In the box". The flash drive would eliminate having to attend the computer for for 7+ hours to change the disks.

The product is a Plug-In, not a standalone program. For me it is a plug-in for Logic Pro. I had to go to U-tube to see how to access it in Logic.

After it is accessed for the first time, it opens a window that gives you a Challenge Code. You must have an account with Spectrasonics. In your account you must add the product. When adding it it, there is a field to enter the challenge code. If done correctly, it returns an array of numbers that need to be entered into the box from where you got the original challenge code. After all of this is done correctly, you can access the plugin in the DAW as expected.

I'm including all of this info because it is not at all clear in the instructions.
