These are clearly designed to appear similar to Sony's 7506 model. To compare them to that, would clearly be unfair. These are entirely plastic, have a straight cable an do not sound as good.

BUT....

They do have a nice screw on style adapter, they do sound good with a slight scooped sound. The low mids are a little boomy and the high mids are a bit scarce. The highs are fairly clean and seem pleasing. They seem to pass volume at an acceptable level. I wouldn't mix on these but they aren't bad.

My overall impression of these phones is that while on sale, they are an exceptional value. It's not going to kill you if a guitarist leaves them on the ground and steps on them when they cost about the same as a drum head or two.

I am using 4 pair in my studio for musicians to track with and for that, they work very well. Good isolation, acceptable sound quality and fairly disposable. Also, it's good to note that while I prefer coiled cables, the straight cable on these seems fairly rugged and quite long. The molded jacks may short out eventually but replacing them with a more quality connector when they do would be an easy mod.

Bought a pair of these with a package deal, and at first I thought they sounded pretty good. Didn't last long though.

First, the bass on one of them started to distort badly in the left channel. Then, both of them started having crackling sound problems. Jiggling the cord sometimes solved it, which tells me there's a bad connection in the cord itself, or a bad solder connection at the jack or earphone.

Shortly after that, one pair quit completely, and the other seems to have a bad connection somewhere in it as well.

All in all, I got barely 4 months of light usage out of them before retiring them to the garbage can. They were being used in my home studio, and handled with the utmost care.

A bit surprising, since I own other Tascam equipment which has been very reliable. But, if you can't find better headphones than these for the asking price, you'd better hang it up.

You "should" get what you pay for, which in this case was far too much. I'd avoid these if I were you.

Wanted to like this.

Pros

  • Does a good job at shutting out exterior sounds.
  • Long, straight cord.
  • Not light, but pretty comfortable

Cons

  • Poor Sound Quality

Best Uses

  • Amateur Recording
  • Casual listening, maybe noisy environment.

Comments about Tascam TH-200X Studio Headphones:

I wanted to like this product. I like the long, uncurled cord, the pads are comfortable on the head if maybe a bit ponderous. But the sound quality is just not there. No high-end sparkle. Midrange is just OK, lacking clarity and presence. Bass is OK. which I would expect from closed-cup phones. Not expensive. But for any headphone use, I need more clarity than this. They're all right for casual listening, mowing the lawn (to block out some exterior noise), but I wouldn't use them for any critical application.

Comments about Tascam TH-200X Studio Headphones:

Bought this as a gift for someone who tears through lesser quality headphones. I have a pair of TH-300 headphones I love and use to while playing my electronic keyboards, and for playbacks, and this pair got a thumbs up from my husband. He says it sounds better than anything he had ever bought - good quality to price ratio.

Great deal . Doesn't add tone or color to the sound . I bought these as a replacement for my worn out ATH-M45's .Not as beefy as the Audio-Technica's but again , the price was right and I needed a replacement asap. I use these when I edit wav files from our jam sessions .

These headphones are (O.K.) they are not the worst and far from the best .if you can buy a pair fairly cheap. consider you made a good deal . they are lite and are easy to wear for long periods of time . it doesn't take much volume to muddy up the sound so watch the volume levels and you will be alright . they can be used in a limited way for home recording but I would say there more useful as every day listening headphones . such as I pod's, I phones, I pads etc. i would recommend these phones for average daily use.

Comments about Tascam TH-200X Studio Headphones:

I was looking for a pair of headphones to serve 2 purposes: 1: allow me to plug into my amp and hear my playing without the whole house having to and 2: block out enough outside noise that I wasn't distracted by other things going on (music, TV, conversations downstairs).

These headphones do the job admirably, and affordably (especially as SDOD). I also appreciate the adaptor, as I often plug into my laptop to hone in on the guitar when listening to the original recording of the song I'm learning. Not for enjoyment, as they are monitor headphones, but they flatten things out in a way that allows me to hear the separate instruments more clearly... if that makes any sense?!?

These are a great for the value. They're not fancy, and they don't sound spectacular, but they're comfortable, and the click track doesn't bleed into my overheads which was a problem with a more expensive pair of sennheisers that are no longer with us. I only needed these for tracking in my home studio. I got them for cheap on sale and they get the job done. I use a different pair of semi open cans for mixing.
