OVERVIEW

An easy-to-use stompbox for opening up new vocal territories.

From the wildly popular HardTune effect to subtle pitch correction and gender manipulation, the VoiceTone Single C1 brings the infamous pitch correction effect to the stage.

Mild to Wild Pitch Correction Processing
VoiceTone C1 has clean, transparent correction capability with unique control of musical input via the guitar input if desired. When transparency isn't your bag, cranking the attack and gender controls will turn the C1's pitch correction into the robotic modern effect heard everywhere.

As simple as plugging in your mic
Gaining access to the studio quality sounds and intelligent processing of the VoiceTone C1 is as simple as plugging in your mic and turning the effect on. Of course, you can always change the style or the amount of effect, but you shouldn't need to unfold the manual.

Strong family genes
The TC-Helicon VoiceTone Singles series includes four vocal processing pedals, each with a single mission - to allow any vocalist to deliver jaw-dropping performances. VoiceTone Singles are the ultimate combination of tone and simplicity. Each of the four effects has inherited algorithms from the award-winning VoiceLive 2, so although VoiceTone Singles come in small packages they deliver a big sound.

You're thinking of buying this either to get that artificial "Cher" effect or you just want to pull your slighly off pitch notes onto the correct pitch without the audience realize you're doing it electronically. This pedal does both things very well.

If you're like me and are looking for something to fix your pitch you may have searched YouTube trying to find this pedal in action but all you found were vids of people using it to get that Pop music "Cher" effect.

Since most of us shopping here are serious musicians I assume most of us are looking to this to correct our singing. This pedal will do exactly that.

I consider myself a pretty good singer but there are certain keys that I struggle with or notes in some songs I can't get quite right. Used this on my last gig and was amazed at what it did to fix those problems.

I kept both knobs at the 12 o clock position and friends in the audience said my vocals sounded awesome and they could not tell at all that I was using something to fix my voice.

From the user's end you will hear a slight doubling effect, which is only because you're hearing what is actually coming out of your mouth and the corrected notes coming thru the speakers at the same time. The audience only hears the corrected notes. I proved this to myself by recording my entire band live thru the board. My vocals sounded totally natural, only more on pitch.

I used this by manually selecting the key and have not even tried the function where you can run another instrument thru the pedal like a guitar or keyboard and it pulls the key from that. As a blues guitar player I often bend notes while I'm singing so I thought that function might backfire on me.

If you're going to select keys as you go remember that you sometimes need to select a relative minor instead of the key you're actually playing in. You'll probably want to practice with this before you go on stage with it for that reason.

Only have two drawbacks. One is that you can not use batteries in this, which in not a concern for most of us, and the transformer that came with this seems a little cheap to me so if it does break you're screwed unless you have aback up ready.

The second drawback is that this pedal adds a lot of boost to your signal so you'll have to correct that either at the board on on the pedal itself. Why they couldn't or didn't make this put out the same signal level that come in is beyond me, and I have run sound for bands using other Helicon pedals that did the same thing and my solution after struggling to get these dialed in is to just set the gain on the pedal at 12 o clock and back it off at the board. That works OK for one pedal, but I'm not sure that will work for a bunch of Helicon pedals chained together.

Everyone in my band uses the same vocal mic and we self-mix live so I initally was tried keeping the gain setting on the board set where it was when not using the pedal and then adjusting on the pedal but it was too hard to match the natural gain of the other mics consistently so I settled on the solution above as something I could do consistently live.

The device is useful but is not a cure-all. You should be a decent singer to start with. If you are not within a half of a semi tone of the target pitch, it will jump to the wrong note. Having said that, it works nicely for simple beatles type harmonies and can really sweeten them up. Using it in a small performance area will produce a chorus effect--your voice mixed with the output of the voice tone. That feels pretty weird and can be distracting. I think running dry monitors and outputting the processed voice only over the mains might be a good way to go but I have not tried it. To do that the mic signal must be tapped before the effect and sent to the monitor mix. A bit of a pain to do. If the voice tone had a "dry" output jack it would be a lot easier. I bought three of these boxes. One per singer. After going back and forth about it I decided keep them. I can see where they would be useful for recording.

I did notice some artifacts (faint bump sounds) when running a female voice through it. Probably not loud enough to be noticeable during performance, however. And it not unique to voice tone. Other pitch correction devices can produce artifacts, too. My settings were CH, Off/hard at 9 o'clock and gender at center.

The output is very hot and I had to turn the knob down to 8:30 to have any level of control.

The general tone seems slightly less clear even with the auto tune turned off...or maybe it is just a bit more compressed.

The gender knob is a riot. We could not stop laughing!

    A Must Have For Vocalists

Comments about TC Helicon VoiceTone Single C1 HardTune & Correction:

All I can atest for is the C1 really works for me - I'd recommend it to anyone with a need of voice correction.
This little device saved my live singing career. I've been singing for over 35 years - weekly at club gigs, on the bigger stage, and at my local church services. Constantly over the years, so one can imagine time would take its toll on the vocal chords. Two separate cases of severe vocal nodules were the worst set backs. I thought my live singing was just about over with and I was only studio bound - the C1 has cured this with its tone correction. No need to strain anymore, and the vocals don't tire out. This thing really saved me.
    Built strong.
I would have paid many times this to get my live vocal presence back.

      Wow

      By Buddy Peyton

Comments about TC Helicon VoiceTone Single C1 HardTune & Correction:

Bought this last week and all I can say is wow! I had never used any type of pitch correction but this thing is really useful not only for live performances but also for rehearsal. When the pitch correction kicks in you can hear the the slight difference between what's coming out to the sound system and the note you're actually making which allows you to make slight adjustments. I find this really helpful when rehearsing. I usually put the pitch correction at about nine o'clock and leave the gender knob in the neutral position. The option to select a specific key or to use guitar input is nice as well.

Comments about TC Helicon VoiceTone Single C1 HardTune & Correction:

It's about time that somebody made an affordable, live pitch correction pedal. I've always ran into latency when trying to use Auto-Tune through my laptop during live performances, and the Antares stand-alone rack was way too expensive (as is TC Helicon's other pitch-correction box with other, unnecessary effects I would never need). But this new box takes the cake. They've already released a firmware update to make it even better, and having a gain control on the pedal is a nice feature too. Manual Key slection, or Chromatic/Guitar controlled pitch. Real-time, zero-latency pitch correction. Everything I've been looking for. Great quality, great pedal. Period.

we have 3 of these in our band, for the 3 singers. they work great, just find the key, set it and play. I like to use a little adjustment to deepen the vocal for mine, that works good too. we only manually set the key so that takes a second before the song but I have mine on a cup holder on my mike stand so i can get to it easy. Even if you don't want hard tune, you can use the tune at what ever level you like. they are a little pricey, but worth it.

Comments about TC Helicon VoiceTone Single C1 HardTune & Correction:

This is a cool device. At first, I tried it with just a mic and didn't really hear much difference. But once I played (and sang) with my band, it was obvious how much this helped my pitch!! It also really promoted clear vocals and is exactly what I have been looking for. If you sing and have pitch issues, this is for you! The gender effects are really cool too.

I really like this unit for correcting out of tune vocals both live and in the studio, however, the key control on my unit is defective. When set to keys B, Bb, A, Ab, G, F# and F, it works correctly. However when set to D#, D, C#, or C, it quantizes to a scale a half step higher. I can compensate by setting the control a half step lower, except there is no way make it work in the key of C.

Comments about TC Helicon VoiceTone Single C1 HardTune & Correction:

I am very happy with the C1. I am not a singer, I'm a bass player, but I do need to sing 2 or 3 songs a night with the band. I'm always a little nervous when I have to sing, which may have something to do with my voice sometimes going a little bit flat or a little bit sharp. With the C1 helping to keep me "in key", I've noticed my nervousness going away, so it has helped in a few ways. I keep the tune knob between 9 & 12 and I keep the gender knob at 12. I've been told by people listening that they had no idea I was using a correction pedal, so the transparency is great since I don't want any "effect" sound to my singing. I am considering adding the H1 harmonizer to the loop.

Comments about TC Helicon VoiceTone Single C1 HardTune & Correction:

Bought this item with high hopes it would be a useful vocal processor. Hooked it up with balanced XLRs into my mixing board, and the hum was so loud I couldn't hear the vocals! I thought I had simply gotten a defective item, so I sent it back for exchange. When the exchanged item came I hooked it up, and although I could now hear the vocals, the hum in the background was still too loud to produce any musically usable sounds. Tried everything I could think of to get rid of the hum, and checked and swapped out the XLRs, but still the background hum wouldn't go away. Very disappointing.

I don't have a need for the hard tune effect, I need the pitch correction and it does that job perfectly. After seeing how good a product it is I will probably order the T1 adaptive tone and dynamics pedal in the future.

Still learning to use this device. Our guitarist and I each have one of these voice correctors. We do the bulk of the vocals in the band. While neither of us is another Robert Plant we get the job done. This corrects for those occasions when our voices don't quite mesh.

Comments about TC Helicon VoiceTone Single C1 HardTune & Correction:

Keep in mind this is a tool to help you sing on pitch or add effects to your vocals. It will not sing for you. If you can't come close to hitting the right note, this will not fix it. However, if you find yourself a bit sharp or a bit flat on occasion, this tool is extremely helpful.
