This was purchased as a Main for small to mid size venues. I play instrumetal guitar; solo and as part of a duo. Our music runs the gamut from rock to classical; often having many playing styles in one piece. We also use multi effects. All this requires a wide range of tone and clarity.

So far this has been the perfect size speaker to provide smooth tonal balance and response from treble to bass. Bass on some larger speakers seem to power on and off in an un-natural way. The DBR10 has a very even and narural sounding response. It has more than

The size and weight also makes shuttling equipment easier. One of these speakers AND all my equipment (2 bags, mixer, speaker stand, and guitar) weigh about the same as a 15" powered speaker.

It has a clean amp. It is very quiet when the volume to turned max and no signal is being reproduced.

I did knock it a lttle because it lacks dedicated Bass and Treble controls. This would be nice but can be worked around somewhat. The DSP contour works nicely, but we found using the FOH setting then cutting some Bass at the input provides a nice evem tone for us. Otherwise the Bass can be a too deep.

I will purchase another because 2 are very capable of working for us in larger venues.

Do not use these without some sort of signal processor (equalizer/mixer). The idea of using these as just plug and play make me cringe. My ancient (30+ years) Peavey SP3 transducers have much better fidelity and greater volume using a tiny 4 channel 120 watt powered mixer than two of these. But hauling two instant hernia SP3's isn't always easy.

Comments about Yamaha DBR10 Powered Speaker:

I bought 2 of these speakers. I do solo guitar singer gigs. I replaced my jbl eon g15s w these. The eons are about 46 lbs and these are only 23. The sound is really great. The 700 watt rating is a bit deceiving. The continuous wattage is 325 which seems about right when compared to the eons. The eons are a bit louder and can fill a space a bit more. The cabinet is a brittle plastic. I don't think they would survive a fall without some damage. A dedicated bass and treble control would be nice, but the uneq'd sound is pretty great as is. I feed these speakers with the xlr output from a Fishman loud box. I have to use the mic setting in the speaker, because on line level, the volume is not very loud even when turned to 10. When in mic setting they are plenty loud, but not quite as clear, the mic preamp introduces some distortion..... Very minor but it is not as clean as the line level. I have pointed out some very minor issues, but overall these speakers sound great. I use the FOH mode and I produced a great eq. Just the right amount of bass and a slight mid cut which makes them a bit less harsh than off or monitor mode.

Comments about Yamaha DBR10 Powered Speaker:

I took a chance on one of these based on the price, small size and weight, Yamaha reputation for quality, and reviews of the big brother DSR series. It is lighter and smaller but uses the same technology. I will use it for rehearsal, monitor for acoustic duo, and FOH for small venues. My first impression was bad -- I played back a 96kbs track from my phone -- I thought it was terrible but it was actually accurate. A higher quality source then sounded very good. Last night I used it as the only FOH for my acoustic duo, small single unit storefront venue, about 40 people. It really delivered . Very natural sound. Plenty of power for that -- the volume was set on 4. It seems very well-built and looks good. Noise floor is extremely low. I don't usually write reviews, but this is so new I thought someone may benefit from some real-world experience. In summary, this will perform well for the uses I intend. I am very happy with the purchase. I think the quality and value are outstanding.

I use a pair of MSR100's for my keyboards. Clear, but only around 40-50 true watts each. Not quite loud enough for a big rock band. Soooo..... I hooked up a DBR10 as a booster. Because its all Yamaha, no hiss or hum! MSR100's have nice built in EQ. Line out from the MSR's to in on the DBR. WOWEE ZOWEE!!! Loud, ultra clear, portable, Stage presence. What more can you ask for!

Comments about Yamaha DBR10 Powered Speaker:

I'm a mobile dj who brings this speaker around as a stage monitor. It sits behind me on the floor and points at me in its wedge shape. Impeccable quality as a stage monitor. And for non professional uses, I had this in the garage when I had some buddies over. Threw on the iPod and it rocked. It was loud enough its own for everyone to even get up and dance and sing and still hear the full sound of the music. Great product on every level. Only thing that's went wrong so far is I somehow bent one of the knobs a bit. My fault, happened during transport. I tried to bend it back with pliers and I'll tell you that there is absolutely no way it will break off. Very durable material.

Comments about Yamaha DBR10 Powered Speaker:

unbelievably tight sound, more bass than a 10 ought to make. I use it for my nursing home ministry, drum machine, acoustic guitar, vocal mic with harmonizer. I set it up right behind me, just to the rear of my right shoulder. No need for a monitor this way. The mic is 4' from the speaker, aimed right at it, never a hint of feedback. It's very light, but the handle is a bad design. Only has a handle on the top, and your hand can slip out of it. Not a biggie, it more than makes up for it in performance. I've been working club bands and other events for years with much larger equipment. This little self contained unit is SWEET!

Comments about Yamaha DBR10 Powered Speaker:

I play guitar and sing in an acoustic duo consisting of two guitars, or guitar and bass. We use a single speaker high and behind as our main and monitor. I loved my K10 but thought it was heavy to lug around and hoped at 23 lbs (K10 32 lbs) the DBR10 could do the same job. We A-B tested the two speakers in my basement and felt they were very closely matched. At last Saturday's gig the DBR10 sounded great. It has a nice overall construction feel. The only downside is a single top side handle made from the side wall material of the cabinet. I put some thick felt inside the handle opening and fixed that problem.

Purchased two of these to 'replace' JBL EON610's... the JBL's just didn't seem to have strong output... the Yamaha's have a higher spl rating (129 vs 124)- it is noticeable! They are very light as well. Purchased 'open-box' which carries the full 7 year warranty from Yamaha - thats a great selling point!!

Comments about Yamaha DBR10 Powered Speaker:

Combine a desire for some serious sound with an older Rocker that still loves to make those guitars cry and sing, and you get the need for a modern small sound system. Fantastic sound quality and levels WITHOUT the tonnage of my vintage Crate, or huge vintage PV unit that requires a sturdy hand truck powered by young muscles to transport.
Excellent for practice and smaller venues, and as a primary feed to your mixer in the studio as it works fine as a stand alone, but does sound better with a filtering Pre Amp for mics or a nice multi effects pedal for your ax.

Comments about Yamaha DBR10 Powered Speaker:

I retired my JBL EONS only because they weigh 40 lbs. Since my gigging career spans 40 years - I AM OLDER AND CANNOT CONTINUE TO LIFT THE WEIGHT (says my Dr. after blowing out my leg Illiotobial Band muscle from over-use from lifting heavy equipment). MY VOICE still rings out - and now, even better because of this speaker. I love it. And I really appreciate the helpfulness of the Musician's Exchange tech I've never met. So helpful to the max!
