Comments about Vandoren V16 Hard Rubber Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece:
I bought this for a Yamaha YTS-82Z II. The horn sounds great with stock mouthpiece but I wanted more power, projection, and darkness. Yamaha's are bright horns.I have Metal Dukoff, Berg, and Otto link mpcs, and Runyon plastic mpcs. This Vandoren V16 gave me for rich lower frequency resonance and fuller sound. I tried the T8 but settled on the T7. The upper register are full and alive with this more than any mpc I ever tried! I tried it on a cheap chinese horn and it sounded better too.
Upper registers are easier to blow with the V16.
I tried Hemke and V16 reeds so far. The V16 reeds are lively and my favorite now. I play jazz and blues. The sound might be too full (spread) for classical players.
For rock where the horn is competing or matching the electric guitar, I might want to use the metal Link instead. It depends on the microphone and song feel.
The characteristics of the V16 are: long face, large chamber, thin tip rails, hard rubber. You can search and study those details. The insides are curved, which is more expensive to make.
It's a great value. (The Runyon plastic mpcs are also great value and better than stock pieces. They have thick rails which help control for beginners, yet make an advanced sound.)
