The V-30, love it or hate it - and I have done both. I won't get into Chinese v. UK, except to say I will buy a speaker made anywhere as long as it sounds good to me. When I first tried out the V-30s I did not like them - the infamous bright/harsh/thin effect. I took them out of my amps and put them away - for years. Finally it was clean out time; they had to go. I decided to give one more shot a breaking them in using a sound wave CD that I burned specifically for breaking in speakers - and yes, insert all kinds of disclaimers here now. Nevertheless, after a very lengthy break-in the speakers changed rather drastically. They are sweet, full bodied and articulate, handling either cleans or distortion with perfect composure. They literally went from useless to favorite - all on the basis of break-in. I have tons of speakers and have never seen the need - or results - of the break-in process so pronounced in any speaker. V-30s are among the best, but you will never hear it unless you break them in very thoroughly.

      Solid Hardware

Comments about Celestion Vintage 30 60W, 12" Guitar Speaker:

Knee-jerk criticism aside (ahem, fellow reviewers...), this is a solid piece of hardware for your music making. It, like the majority of guitar speakers, is bright sounding. Yeah, maybe it's voiced kinda high, compared to subwoofers, but other drivers of its creed are similarly tenor. C'mon, Eminence has made a career of tip-top voiced speakers. Cus that's great for a crisp distortion or biting past the bass player or bothering keyboardists because you've got more stage presence.

The Vintage 30 is one of those kind of speakers. It is of great quality, terrifically responsive and reasonably priced. You want something with more bass range, get a 15" and calm down. Or blow money on the Alnico Gold, cus it's amazing. But if you'd like a speaker for half the price, same quality and a brighter, more modern sound, the Vintage is a spectacular option.
      Its a speaker. C'mon.

      Bunch of Sell Outs!!!

Comments about Celestion Vintage 30 60W, 12" Guitar Speaker:

Lets get this straight, normally when things are made in China, this lowers the cost it takes to make the product, allowing the company to sell it to its customers cheaper, NOT HIKE UP THE PRICE!!! Celestion in the 80's and 90's in my opinion were awesome. I wouldn't buy this speaker for half the price. The mid range spike on these things will rip your face off. There is much better out there, for much less. The WGS Veteran 30 smokes this speaker, the Jensen Jet Electric Lightning is simply killer, and even the Peavey JSX speaker cranks above these. It seems like everyone who writes a review on this speaker is afraid to say something out of the norm, when the truth is Celestion isn't what it use to be... Here is a simple equation (China=Cheap=Crap)!!! Yes European and America make better, quality products. That's nothing but the facts and just for the record all the gear that the pros use is specially made for his or her own application. They're not using this junk!!!

Comments about Celestion Vintage 30 60W, 12" Guitar Speaker:

I don't see what all the fuss is about. I have one of these in my Blues Jr III and I have not had any harshness issues. In fact, if anything, it smoothed it out a bit more than the stock Eminence. You'll find vintage 30's in all kinds of great expensive amps & cabs. This is for a reason... They're good! Folks need to remember that certain speakers, tubes, & pickups will sound harsh depending on the tone of your amp & guitar. So this may not be the right fit for some but may be the perfect fit for others. In the Blues Jr III it really brings out the chime and gives it a warm vintage quality. Love it.

Back in the day Celestion was a great spkr, this is no longer the case, their made in China and the savings in labor are NOT passed onto the customer. Ive tried the vintage 30 no big deal, no warm sound, never again, now I look at Emminence and Jensen, their well made and reasonably price, the Jenson mod series sounds like and old greenback!

Comments about Celestion Vintage 30 60W, 12" Guitar Speaker:

Here is the deal when it comes to Celestions Vintage 30 speakers. 20 plus years as an active musician, I have had my share of gear and know a thing or two about gear. The speakers are great period whether made in China or England. I personally believe that the England made Celestions last longer and are of better quality. I have about 4 cabs ranging from Engl to Line 6 all with Vintage 30 speakers. They all sound great, however, the cabinets that are of higher quality are loaded with England made Celestions and the cabs that are less expensive carry the China made Celestions. Not being a rocket scientist, one can see where I am going with this... Just for the record, you WILL NOT see any thing other than England made Celestions in the "premium and expensive," Cabs. That is the the bottom line!!!

Comments about Celestion Vintage 30 60W, 12" Guitar Speaker:

Hi, I bought 8 of these to go into two Marshall cabs and lets just say I was unpleasantly surprised to see that they are now made in China. Vintage 30s have been my speaker of choice for about 10 years now. I was going to return them and get some that were made in England, but they are no longer making these in England at all. From what I was told they are still making some of the Heritage and other higher end speakers there, but no Vintage 30s. So after all that I finally decided to install them and they have the same great tone as other Vintage 30s. I'm still not happy with the principal of it all, but they are still great speakers. Just make sure you break them in gently for a few hours and IMO they sound just as good as the made in Englang V303.

Comments about Celestion Vintage 30 60W, 12" Guitar Speaker:

Ahhh yes the V-30:) Ive heard them all and this is forever my favorite. If the midrange spike is not to your liking change the settings on your amp or guitar! This speaker can be dangerous when an un experienced artist isn't weary of the amount of presence and midrange as it can really pummel the listeners ears...The benefit is the clarity and the insane amount of harmonic overtones. The low end is unbeatable, warm and tight, and loud!!!. At one point when my ear had developed I wanted my tone to be warmer and more pleasing so I tried the greenbacks. But the low end wasnt tight enough for me...now Im rocking my cabs with greenback/v-30 in a x pattern. Its the best of both worlds. But if I had to choose one over the other the Vintage 30 always wins!

Comments about Celestion Vintage 30 60W, 12" Guitar Speaker:

I fell in love with this speaker's tone as soon as I played my first chord on it. It's not broken in yet and I already love it. It came stock in an Ampeg GVT112E and I'm using my Ibanez TSA15H with it and it rules. Definately a speaker for hard rock and metal. I've played many Celestions and could never get the sound I wanted until using this Vintage 30. It's the perfect hard rock/metal speaker for me. I can't wait until it breaks in and sounds even better. This is a wonderful speaker. Now I know what all the fuss is about. It sounds great clean and even better with whatever boost, overdrive, distortion or fuzz you have.

Comments about Celestion Vintage 30 60W, 12" Guitar Speaker:

I got a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe with a V30 in it. It really sounds incredible. With the tube amp it sounds incredibly warm and really clear. Add distortion or overdrive (Fulltone Fulldrive I've used) and it adds a really nice tone to it. I don't think this speaker would sound as good coming out of a solid state amp. A friend of mine also has 2 V30s in a Mesa Boogie 2X12 30W and it is by far the best sounding Mesa Boogie I have heard.

Overall I would suggest getting this product. It really sounds amazing, especially coming out of a tube amp. I absolutely love it.

China vs England - Both are Great but Different

Comments about Celestion Vintage 30 60W, 12" Guitar Speaker:

They sell Chinese made V30's here. Certain manufacturers can get their hands on English ones. I'm sure some manufacturers that have a choice might still pick the Chinese. Both speakers are excellent but sound and behave differently. Chinese ones have a tighter bass and a high mid spike at 6k and sound the same at any volume. English made have a looser bass that tightens with volume, and a "sparkely" high end with less upper mid spike and the highs darken with saturation. I have a Mesa Traditional slanted 4x12 with vintage 30's made in england and a Randall 2x12 with Chinese V30's and I love them both. If you want bass and treble that are consistant and bass that stays tight at any volume with little to no breakup then go with these. If you want speaker breakup and a speaker that may not be very usefull at low volumes then seek out a Mesa cabinet. If you're curious see if there's a small white sticker on the outside of the magnet (not the back) that reads Ipswitch England.

Replaced stock speakers on sf 73 twin reverb and now i can use Dist and OD with no crazy highs like some people implied before. The lows and mids are very good also. I was trying to get an amp to gig around so I did not have to drag my 4x12 cab around to small clubs and by replacing the speakers I got a descent sound out of it. is not a stack sound, but if you mic it the right way it will work. if you are a guy like me that likes OD and Dist on an amp, these are the speakers.

I have four of these babies from the 70's in two slant front Ampeg cabinets. (Well, one was sold to my brother, but who cares?) Can't beat these with Marshall tube amps. Sounds like the holy grail of rock with P-90's or HB's in a Les Paul or Strat. It is THE lead and rock tone. (Greenbacks are the other one. :P)I run a DSL 100w and a JTM-60 through them. It'll blow your mind. My old instructor used these cabinets with the very same JTM-60 I mentioned for years.Let them wear in after a couple days and you'll know. You will play until your ears bleed because THESE are it.A little warning though- the mids and highs that make them so good for overdrive can also come back to bite in the cleans. Don't be afraid to roll of the tone, adjust the presence, or mess with the resonance. You'll come to use all of these someday, so why not now?

I replaced those HORRIBLE stock Eminence speakers in my Diezel oversized 2x12 cab with V-30's, and the difference is like night and day. It can cover a wide range of tones, from crystal clear clean tones for Funk and Pop, to slashing high-gain Rock tones similar to Guthrie Govan. Even highly skilled Jazz players would have no problem with these speakers. My Ibanez GB10 and GB200 (George Benson signature archtops) sound just as good, if not better, through my V-30 loaded Diezel cab (with Peavy JSX head) than any of those little Fender combos Jazz players use. All in all, a great speaker for any genre of music.

Comments about Celestion Vintage 30 60W, 12" Guitar Speaker:

I've been running these speakers in my 4x12 for about 5 years now. I chose them because I was looking for the throaty midrange progressive metal sound, and these speakers are used in Mesa and Orange cabs, so I knew they were the answer. Later on, I found out that they are good for just about any style of music. They are clear, precise, and provide just the right amount of all frequencies. They are perfect in my opinion. Use a quality tube amplifier, and these speakers won't let you down.

Comments about Celestion Vintage 30 60W, 12" Guitar Speaker:

They're just great speakers, I don't think it's any more complicated than that. I never understood the touchiness about where the thing is made - okay if made in England or Germany... not okay if made in Mexico or China - I don't understand. These speakers are fantastic. They appear on platinum recordings. They're loaded unto the most premium and expensive amps and cabinets on the planet. I like to think there's a reason for that simpler than some mass conspiracy or ploy. There's no secret - the speakers just rule. I dropped one on my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. The stock speaker isn't bad at all. It's a US made Eminence product dated late 1990's with a very clear sound. But the Vintage 30, barely broken in, is just way better. Not known for a ton of bottom end, the low notes nevertheless come in tightly and full and are almost the highlight of the speaker. It's actually fuller on the bottom than the stock speaker. The highs I'd say are more controlled, with some shimmer, but somewhat reserved (you have to turn up trebble to add sparkle...but that could change altogether if you play out of a tele or strat). The mids are as fabulous as everyone says they are, making crunchy overdrive and searing gain saturation brilliantly articulate. In short, the speakers live up to the talk - there's no question about it. I'm a believer. My only criticism is their price. If you're on a tight budget feel free to try an Eminence Wizard or P Jack. They're good. But if you have the cash or haven't room for compromise, these will make a good amp into a GREAT amp. I still can't believe my ears. DO break them in first and enjoy!

I love my Celesion Vingage 30 speakers! I've got an old SilverFace Fender Twin Reverb loaded with Celestion Vintage 30's and it is the vest sounding amp I've ever played through. Also, I just recently replaced the stock speaker in my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe with a Celestion Vintage 30 and it REALLY brought that amp to life. Very colorful sound, super articulate highs, awesome mids, and really tight bottom end! Awesome speaker. It's my favorite speaker by far.
