I play rock, jazz and most styles in between. I like very heavy picks. I've tried many brands and sizes and each have their own usefulness. But when I need my "go to" pick, I grab the 1.52 mm Clayton Acetal Standard Guitar Picks (always have one in my pocket). I often use a picking technique called "compression" picking which really digs into the strings and produces a full and sustainable type sound (almost like using a compressor pedal), and these picks are great for that.

I haven't read any of the other reviews so i don't know what people are saying about these picks but I can tell you at first they feel a little sticky, but this wears off some after a couple of weeks. At that point they feel great. They never break. They sound great on all of the strings but especially the 3rd string and the two high string. If you use a heavy 3rd string, (18 - 22 gauge), and one of these 1.52mm picks, you'll will get that string to SING!

These do well at producing false harmonics. They are also great for fast jazz runs. They're even great for heavy stroking funky chords (E9s and such) once you get used to playing hard and using a lot of body motion. You will be heard over the band. Very loud picks. I have a lot of people ask how I get my guitars to sing, and sound thick like they do. There are a lot of factors (mainly the hands, the frets, the picks, and then the electronics and the guitar itself in that order), but these picks help a lot.

Great for blues, jazz, even metal and I suppose shredding as it gives you great control.

The feel of the pick my freak some people out at first, but it never bothered me and they smooth up real fast. Other than that I can think of nothing negative to say about them. They are expensive but they last FOREVER! I bought 4 dozen (48 picks) over two years ago, I play and teach every day and I still have over 40 picks left. I mean they really last. I can do pick scrapes ALL DAY and I or the strings give out before the pick. These things last.

I do bend strings a lot, but I still prefer heavy strings and heavy picks with a Fender scale length. Add the Clayton Acetal Standard Guitar Picks 1.52mm on top of that and you have a very thick and rich tone.

Oh, and they look really cool I think.

I rarely leave reviews, so that should say something about these picks. They're great!

Hope that helps.
I use the 1.52s. They can get a very full sound.

I decided to purchase a dozen of Clayton .80mm acetal picks after being a long-time user of celluloid and Ultex picks. First impression, it has a good grip, even with sweaty thumb like mine. I do find them "too warm - almost dull" sounding attack compare to celluloid pick when playing with electric guitars. I felt there is much friction/resistance with the string release. However, they do sound great with acoustic.

Acetal is not for my style of playing the the attack I am looking for.

Comments about Clayton Acetal Standard Guitar Picks:

If your a bass player and enjoy shredding like I do these are the picks of choice, if you need to reorder it's because you lost them not because they wear out....1.9 mm best for bass, still get a thick sound using these picks, they won't slip out of your fingers if your a wet(sweat) handed player..So When playing slow stuff I use my fleshy fingers, but when I play at warp speed I only use Clayton 1.9mm non-slip indestructible Acetal picks.. Have a good day my friends... Steve

Comments about Clayton Acetal Standard Guitar Picks:

Excellent picks for all styles of playing. I especially love these picks for 7 string guitar. I've been using these for decades and have no plans to switch to something else any time soon. The .80mm thickness is perfect for digging into the low B when riffing, yet light enough for fast runs, sweeping, and clean/articulated arpeggios. Plus, the lightly textured surface keeps the pick from moving around too much while playing. Any other pick just doesn't feel quite right to me.

Comments about Clayton Acetal Standard Guitar Picks:

I picked up a couple of 0.80 mm acetal standards a while back, and they really added a neat crispness to my acoustic guitar rhythm work. Compared to the 0.73 mm tortex I've been using for years, the difference in tone was immediately noticeable. Not necessarily better tone, just interestingly different. The 0.80 Clayton feels (and sounds) more flexible than the 0.73 tortex. The Clayton also wears much faster (at least for me). In the end though, I liked what the acetal standards offer enough to buy a dozen to have on hand.

Comments about Clayton Acetal Standard Guitar Picks:

This is the perfect pick. A pack of 12 will probably last the rest of your natural life, assuming you don't lose picks often. The smooth yet grippy texture of these picks keep them where they are supposed to be while playing. Tone wise, these are just as good. They really bring out a nice meaty tone from my Martin D16RGT,without any of that floppy plastic pick sound you get with alot of other picks. Do yourself a favor and try these out, they will probably become your new go to pick.

Love these picks, have been a Tortex man for 10+ years . But i really needed something in between a .60 and a .71. The Clayton .63 is perfect. I had to crosshatch my tortex with my knife to keep it from slipping, but not these Babys, Great Product

Comments about Clayton Acetal Standard Guitar Picks:

I like this pick because it is large - which creates more tone. It is also easy to hold onto to - although due to it's heavy gauge, it does sometimes leap out of my fingers from time to time. But, that's just because of it's size; it's natural grip is still very good.
I give these picks 10 stars because they're easy to hold onto and have a high durability.
I use gauge 1.90, so I get the utmost in durability and the grip and tone qualities are smooth pluses.
Pretty high value I'd say because these picks don't get caught up in your strings and offer a smooth and warm tone. You'll be happy with them I think.

I found the .63mm acetyl pick a hair too stiff so I thought I'd give the .50mm a shot. My standard pick is the Dunlop Tortex .60mm. I like the feel of acetyl but the .63 is too heavy and the .50 too light. If Clayton would split the difference it could be a beautiful thing. If you already prefer a thin pick then you'll probably enjoy these.

I've been using Clayton picks for years. They have a texture I like which seems to make them less likely to slip away in the middle of a solo. The main thing is, they don't break or split. They do wear down over time but they're still usable, even when rounded off. I use the 1.00mm when I play acoustic and a .50mm for electric.

Comments about Clayton Acetal Standard Guitar Picks:

I have found that I really like the sound and feel of a soft pick, so I finally tried this 0.5mm Acetal Pick from Clayton. The material slides nicely off the strings for a good sound and it sticks very well to moistened fingers without needing ridges. It took me a while to find this pick and I've converted almost 100% to it for playing.

Comments about Clayton Acetal Standard Guitar Picks:

These picks are great for just about any type of playing that you want to do. They last quite a long time as well. These have been my main picks for about the last 20 years, and I haven't had one break on me ever. They just eventually get worn down to nubs over the years of playing. One dozen pack will probably last most casual guitar players a lifetime if they don't lose them. This is the 2nd time I've bought these picks, and I still have some of my old ones as well. I've played guitar fairly often with these picks over the years. That should tell you something about how durable these are. Give them a try for yourself.

Comments about Clayton Acetal Standard Guitar Picks:

I like Medium picks and tend to favor the side for a rounder tone. As a result, I shred through Celluloid picks which a) increases the chances of breaking strings, b) changes the feel of the pick in a negative way and 3) gets expensive! My favorite pick is the Dunlop Tortex .60mm. I was looking for an alternative just to break things up and I find these .63mm picks have a nice feel and are very durable. They are not pricey and are definitely worth trying

Nothing like a new pick with an edge, yes they wear but all picks do, just the feel of these picks, and the grip I get with them. They work for me!
