This picks sound the best, no doubt. But people don't seem to be mentioning the fact that they wear down very quickly. I play the .73 on medium strings with my acoustic, and I run through these picks like its my job. I've even worn down a pick in a 3 hour gig.The biggest problem is that when they get worn down the edges start to crack and get tiny chips. This cause the pick to start catching on the strings while plying, which is entirely annoying. The other thing is that they create a nasty dust as they get worn down that collects on your guitar (like an electric, or in my case my Celebrity Deluxe Ovation, whose sound holes are not in the center.)I rarely write reviews , especially for picks. But I felt compelled to share this. I will keep buying them because I love the tone, but it hurts every time I have to. You should not have to go through that many picks that fast. So don't let that rhino on the pick fool you, these are not that durable.

Best pick I've ever used... by a mile

Comments about Dunlop 421P Ultex Guitar Picks:

I used Dunlop Tortex .50mm for close to 20 yrs, but decided to try the Ultex .60mm (lightest Ultex guage) about 5 yrs ago, after reading an interview w/ Jim Dunlop. I have used nothing else since.

For me, the best attributes of Ultex is the attack & clarity they add. They also make you feel like you turned your volume up... the notes just jump off the pick, very lively. They are more rigid than pick of the same guage made from other materials, so you might want to try a guage lower than what you're used to. They also last a lot longer than celluloid, nylon or tortex picks, although they're not "Indestructible" as Dunlop claims.

Try them out... you'll never go back!

Comments about Dunlop 421P Ultex Guitar Picks:

I have been using these picks exclusively ever since I discovered them. (about 2 1/2 years) These picks are tough as nails. I use these picks on both electric and bass, and my fingers will start bleeding 10 times over before these picks give out. I used one pick all through marching season playing bass every day, pretty heavily, and it never wore out, although I did lose it. I have stocked up on these picks, just so I never run out. I use heavy 1 mm picks generally, on bass, electric, and acoustic. These picks give a very bright tone, they will brighten up even the muddiest of buckers, and they are very responsive when soloing. They also give a nice snap to the bass. I would certainly recommend everybody check out these picks, they will not disappoint.

I have two real tortoise shell picks which run anywhere from 25.00 to 45.00 bucks a pop! These match the sound and won't break the bank. I have been playing for 21 years and these are the best picks that I have ever played with. They really shine when I play my Martin Acoustic but handle my Telecaster with ease as well. Try these picks they will improve the clarity of your tone.

These picks are the closet material next to real tortoise shell and make a real difference in flatpickingbluegrass on something like an old 54 d-18 with medium strings, I have used a single pick for over a years period of time playing up 30hrs a month and the only reason I have ever had to replace it was because I lost it. Comments about Dunlop 421P Ultex Guitar Picks:

I like using these picks. They are snappy and hard, and that type of action translates into my guitar picking.
These picks have great bite and sharpness compared to other brands of picks of similar thickness.
These picks are strong and difficult to break. They will break if you try hard enough. These picks will last a long while, but not forever. But, what lasts forever anyways?
These picks are appropriately priced. They are not expensive.

Comments about Dunlop 421P Ultex Guitar Picks:

I have to disagree with the raves about these, because after hearing them, I went out and bought some, and they are not as durable and don't have the same grip as tortex. Tips wear out too fast, and not as many sizes to choose from.

This is the best dunlop pick I've used. I pick slide and play for hours days weeks and the picks still are in the same shape as when I bought them. The only reason I have to buy more is cause my friends keep taking them. Highly recommended.

Comments about Dunlop 421P Ultex Guitar Picks:

I came up using real tortoise shell picks. The nuances you can coax out of a guitar (acoustic or electric) are dramatically different from any plastic or gel immitator - just in case you're too young to know, that's what all picks have been trying to be ever since the originals were banned. The Dunlop Ultex has come closest to date with the feel and expression formerly only available from tortoise shell. You want accurate dynamics and tone? Give it a shot. Incidently, I have several of these I've been playing with so long that you can see through them - yeah, they're durable.

Comments about Dunlop 421P Ultex Guitar Picks:

I have been using the Dunlop tortex .73mm picks for about 4 years now and decided to try these. I was at first a bit skeptical of the feel of the picks, and I didn't think they would bend much. I was pleasantly surpised however when I began playing with them. They feel great and give just rught when I strum. My only reason for not maxing out 10 stars on every category is due to the fact that I go through these like crazy, about twice as fast as I do my Tortex. I love thes picks but seeing as hw I can spend about the same amount on tortex and get twice as many picks, I think I'll stick with my rut. If play with low intensity or don't beat the crap out of your strings when you play, then these may work for you, but I just can't use one for mor than 2 days tops without breaking it.

Comments about Dunlop 421P Ultex Guitar Picks:

They have a great grip. They don't crack/disintegrate like typical tortiseshell ones I have used. Sure, they won't last forever. The .60's are great for strumming, acoustic or electric and firm enough to do some picking in between. Not as flexy as nylon, so strum lightly and you'll get a great sound. Good enough for me to take the time to write a review about a guitar pick, if you know what I mean.

Comments about Dunlop 421P Ultex Guitar Picks:

The .60mm picks really hit that sweet stop between the "Medium" and "Heavy" gauges of most picks out there -- I've typically played with Fender & Ernie Ball picks, so I'm referring to those brands for this comparison. The .60mm Ultex picks are flexible enough where you won't lose any smoothness in your strum, but firm enough to provide a little more confidence when it comes to soloing or single-string picking.

Have not had any durability issues thus far, nor have I noticed any "slimming" of the pick near the point. Good product.

Comments about Dunlop 421P Ultex Guitar Picks:

I ordered a pack of this and a pack of Tortex .73mm picks. A dozen of the .73 came, but only one of the .60mm. Seems there was a tear in the bag and maybe when packing the box, most of them fell out.

Called MF up, they were helpful buuut only to send me another packet of Tortex .73. At this point, I just became frustrated. I don't know how much clearer I could have been. This is a great product - I wish I had more than one instead of 2 dozen picks that I don't need. I recommend this product because it works so well with my style of playing and guitar but TRIPLE CHECK YOUR ORDER.

Comments about Dunlop 421P Ultex Guitar Picks:

This is the greatest pick I have ever tried. It lends itself well to just about everything, from soloing to strumming. The smooth, beveled edge allows you attack at different angles and will emerge from scrapes as though it were hewn from diamond. I'm not sure about the lightest gauge, I use the .73s, it's a good gauge, it would usually be too thin for lightning fast runs, but because ultex is so incredibly hard, you can use a thinner gauge than you usually do and still have great control. It's also the most durable pick I've ever owned, I've been using the same pick for 4 months, I used to have to buy a pack of fenders every few weeks. People say these are too expensive, but since you won't need more for a year or so, they're actually very cheap.

I only wish the same as others here, That not only would they make these pointed on the tip, but even consider making them in even heavier guages up to 1.50. after putting a gentle point with a nailfile or fine sandpaper, the 1.14's are perfect for precision alternate and sweep picking and produce a bright, but not clicky response. Beautiful tone.

I've done everything possible that would make normal picks break but this one I've put my all into and still stays intact without shavings all over my guitar. Anyone who likes to play on acoustic guitars or likes to rock out on electrics but this pick. Go with a size one below what you usually get because even the .61's seem kinda thick.
