OVERVIEW

The standard for great snare sound!

Introduced in 1968, CONTROLLED SOUND heads are single-ply Ambassador-weight heads with a 5 mil thick black or clear dot in the center of the head. This combination offers a controlled, centered sound without undesirable overtones.

These dual-zone heads have a combination of medium and heavy-duty drumhead characteristics. The outer area of the head's playing surface offers a midrange tone and sensitivity while the laminated center dot eliminates high frequency overtones and adds durability and tonal focus to meet the demands of heavier hitters.

After using batters for almost thirty years, you get a good sense of what is actually worth purchasing. I've played over 100 different types of heads: clear, hydraulic, double, marching band and so on. Remo has always produced the best quality heads that can be bought. This controlled sound head is a breakthrough, because it really does control sound, to a point. Where on other heads, sometimes you would have to dampen so much it would muffle the tones you want to come through, where as on the controlled sound head, obviously a lot of that dampening is not needed. I've been on this first head for three months now, and getting ready to put a new one on. I don't need to, just a force of habit. The sound quality and volume level are outstanding. I play a Tama SLP 13" steel snare, and this head pops! Cuts through with no problem. Definitely a worth while purchase.

I purchased this head because I have always had good luck with this company, but the coating on this head started coming off after only a few hours of playing. The coating is actually adhering to my sticks and is transferring to my cymbals I don't know if this is normal for this head but I'm not happy about it. The sound is good but I wouldn't buy another one I don't think it will hold up.

Comments about Remo Controlled Sound Coated Dot Top Snare Batter:

I'm using this on a Pearl Vision Birch snare and it's giving a nice crack, no muffling and there are no bad over tones. There are still overtones but only the good ones. I don't like my snare sounding like a cardboard box.

Comments about Remo Controlled Sound Coated Dot Top Snare Batter:

I am really picky about snare drum sound... I mean, the snare drum is the nucleus of a drum kit. This head has satified my hearing OCD and is well worth the money! Invest into a new snare head if you need one, it's worth it!!

Comments about Remo Controlled Sound Coated Dot Top Snare Batter:

Overall, this is a great snare head. I put it on, cranked it down and didn't have to use any muffling or gels at all. There's a slight high overtone, but not enough to cut through any live performance, and it gives it a nice live feeling.
I'd recommend this to anyone playing rock or jazz. Nice sound without having to tape or gel it.
I like the smooth top and the look.
Put it on, cranked it down and it sounded great. Only bad thing is, after one gig the coating is coming off near the center where I usually hit. And I'm not a heavy hitter. Not a big thing, since the coating on my last head was almost completely worn off and still going strong. (It was an Emperor X)
Tough to beat the price, but why bother?

An amazing snare head

By Ben-Ovfsi

Comments about Remo Controlled Sound Coated Dot Top Snare Batter:

This is the first time I've gotten a new snare head for my snare. It used to have a stock head that came with the kit, but after 2 years it wasn't looking so hot. I got this one and I was so happy with the quality. Had my first band practice with it yesterday and my bandmates loved it.

Comments about Remo Controlled Sound Coated Dot Top Snare Batter:

I have been a drummer for 38 years and I have always used Remo heads. In my quest to find the perfect sound for my snare drum, I have tried every head there is. This head gives my snare that warm, fat sound, with just the right amount of resonance and overtone. Perfect for any drummer, beginner or pro. I love this head, and I know you will to.
