A Hollywood-based career drummer, Remo Belli ran a retail drum shop in the 1950s that kept him in touch with the needs of other working drummers. Customers didn’t like the inconsistencies of calfskin drumheads so Belli experimented with PET, a polyester film that was used during WWII for its weather resistance and consistent tonal qualities. The rest is history. Remo's use of synthetic materials in drumheads marked a significant turning point in drumming.
